Story with importing an EU car? Is it just VRT thats due, any handy way of working out what that is??

    Does a Polish test transfer?

Its diesel, so is NOX due also?

Car is in Ireland, RHD, but Polish plates. Im keen to check it out, but wondering if import charges Will snooker it.

    Ta.

No VAT or duty due on an car registered in another EU member state. VRT due as well as NOX charge though. You will need the original Polish registration cert from the current owner and it will have to have the car's Co2 and NOX figures listed on it afaik to be accepted by the VRO.

NOX charge could be expensive if it's older than a Euro 6 diesel car. VRT could also be expensive if the Co2 figure falls into a high VRT bracket.

Make and model could help make a guess here if it's worth it or not.

Its a V70 R design... its the 2.4 D5, so the Nox will likely be eye watering, its euro 5.

Have the Polish reg...had it in my head that the Nox charge was a brexit thing

Try and get the correct Co2 and NOX figures from the seller and look up those figures but at a guess I'd say both will be high enough making it not worth it.

The generally higher EU fit-out might be worth it. Am I nuts or isnt Poland LHD territory ? What am I missing here

Irish or UK car exported to Poland by probably the owner when they were living in Ireland or UK and moved back to Poland. Got fed up with Poland and moved back(pretty common for eastern Europeans to move back and forth from Poland/EE to Ireland) and is now selling the car in Ireland

Ya it was RHD...did a VRT estimate and it was stupid money, so thats the end of that.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the car was exported from Ireland and if VRT was paid on this car originally prior to export to Poland then no VRT is due on its re-import. If it's a UK car originally then all bets are off.

Only applies if the owner didn't get a VRT refund at the time of export
