Bit daft that it's €10 per year (for three years) for students, punishing rather than attracting student readers.

Are you unfamiliar with News Corp? They hate young people

The €5 for the year will nicely fill me need for crosswords for the next 12 months 👍

Very good value. We get the Sunday Times physical paper about half the time; this is a good backup when we don't or if we're out of the country. In my third year of it now. Got it for €5 Year 1, then had to pay €12 last year, back to €5 this year.

    EUR5 a month or EUR5 for a full year?

I've also seen Black Friday offers for the on-line versions of the Irish Times (€57.50 for the year) and UK's Independent (€1 for 6 months) in the last few days. Definitely the right time to subscribe if you were thinking of it anyway, but make sure you cancel the auto-renewal and renegotiate before the end of the initial subscription period.

Or pay with a Revolut virtual card then freeze or dispose of the card so you dont have to worry about being charged.

Just noticed that today is the last day for the €5 for the year offer. 6 hours left if anyone was on the fence.

Reminder not to forget to cancel after your €5 a year deal. I forgot and stung for a tenner for a month today.

its great on a laptop but isnt optimised for mobile so you've to do a lot of zooming and fiddling around to read articles which gets frustrating when out and about

Change your payment to Revolut virtual card and then freeze or terminate the card.

Then never worry about forgetting/having to cancel or setting reminders.

Does it have good 'Irish' coverage…… dont wnat to be reading pages of happenings at Balmoral and Chequers and the Lords!!!

You can click on the Irish news section.

As LFB21 said be careful coming up to renewal.Cancel 4-6 weeks out or you'll get stung for e10 a month. They do not send email reminders of your expiry date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,891 ✭✭✭savemejebus

no, the Irish coverage is poor, the section is updated very slowly, often the same headline for days.

in fairness, they only committed to Irish coverage in the Sunday Times after the Irish operation was effectively downsized 2- 3 years ago. and it's probably the main reason we can get it for a fiver…it's a no brainer at that rate, i'd be happy to pay that a month, but don't tell them that.

some of the reviews online are shocking … especially on the complication of cancellation process.

Suppose using virtual one time card on Revolute would sort that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,236 ✭✭✭wassie

A one time (disposable) virtual card wont work.

It needs to be a regular virtual card that can be validated for recurring payments. Simply set it up and once the card is accepted, then freeze or dispose of the virtual card.

every year, i call them to cancel. I have a very straightforward conversation with an agent and every agent i've spoken to is very nice and helpful. we do the over and back of why i want to cancel, then they put me on hold to "talk to a supervisor" and then they come back and offer me the same offer. it's not one bit complicated and takes less than 5 minutes. I really don't understand why many people seem to have a problem with having a conversation with another person.

They purposely dont have an online cancellation. People get caught out and it makes me them money.

Just set a reminder and it's a quick call.

I think you can sign up via google play as well, I did that last year and just cancelled the sub via my google payments. Very simple.

My sub ran out last week and as I had blocked payments to them in Revolut it didn't renew at €10 per month and the payment was declined.

Got an email then today to rejoin with the same offer which expires in 10 days but when you click on it it says that "A subscription already exists for this account." which is a common error they seem to have.

Opened the link in incognito mode and was able to enter existing details and had the €5 amount but then when it opened the payment screen it showed as £1.

Cancelled that and will just ring them or use the chat to rejoin or if not possible will do the usual cancel and sign up under another email address.

just as a follow up to this, i still think it’s great value for world news etc. and definitely recommend it, esp at a fiver for the year but for anyone looking for a source of Irish news it’s not much good.

The most recent news story in the Irish section of the app (I don’t count their 2025 quiz as news) is 6 days old and that kind of update schedule is not jus because of it being Christmas.

That is because they only have an "Irish edition" on a Sunday, no journalists cover the rest of the week
