    whats the atmosphere like?

i've only watched a few highlights on youtube previous few years, but seemed like a laugh, crowd were really behind moody a few years ago, cheering every shot, and murphys 147 where someone shouted dont bottle it when he was on the blue with the rest

seems like a good tournament for a few mates if you want beers and cheer along

I look forward to the shoot out each year.

Blackpool crowds could be bigger but they make a fair bit of noise.

The World Champion ain't too proud to make the trip, along with other Chinese. 6 of the top 16 entered it. Brecel turned up too.

Selby has to be a big favourite for this one too.

Pity he didnt get that 147. Thought it was on.

Xintong got a 146 last night.

    Rarer thing than a 147

It would have taken (and still could) an unfortunate sequence of events, but that should confirm Aaron Hill in the World Grand Prix. He's 31 in the provisional 1 year rankings. Zak Surety would need to make the semis and Selt make the final for him not to be in the 32.

Devastating win for Chang over Allen. The complete performance. I don't know if Allen was interviewed after but during the match he looked shell shocked. Based on that performance Chang is heading to the top. We'll see if it continues against Walken.

hard to see a come back from 6-2, but in about an hour we’ll know if it’s possible.

I had a nap in case it goes late.

Looked up Chang on Wikipedia. Didn't realise there were so many players involved in fixing.

I’m a bit of an old fogey when it comes to snooker. I don’t like the relaxation of the dress code and I don’t like the young referees.

Leo Scullion was one of the last of the dignified older generation, in the style of a gentlemen’s club valet. Clearly the snooker tour is prioritising much younger referees, in particular women.

I’ve already given up on football because of VAR. if snooker continues down its current path of ‘modernising’ the game and chasing Arab oil money, I may be forced to abandon it too.

Important to have variety. Snooker shoot out etc. Female refs etc. Attracts different viewers. As for the Saudi Money. Professional Snooker is niche capitalist sport. Fighting for attention against the main sports.
It is scrambling a bit for sponsors since the cigarette ban. Moved to betting. Now I noticed some tournaments have multiple sponsors. Saudi money does not bother me in the slightest. Keeps the game alive.

It will be China that will be the flag bearer in a decade. So you better get used to change. Only a matter of time before the World Championship is moved there in my opinion.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Supposedly the Chinese audience are quite traditional and like to see the formal dress.

Scullion has given great service to the sport but should have retired 10 years ago, at least.

Ken playing Jimmy now in the British Open Seniors on Channel 5.

A chance to see how Channel 5 will present snooker into next year.

So far they'd pinched John Parrot and Dennis (temporarily over Christmas) from the BBC coverage, and they'll have a lot of the ITV 4 team for the main tour events.

An annoying thing is the extra ad break squeezed in before break off. A bad habit taken from the football.

Looking forward to the Masters starting this weekend. Some great matches lined up. Who do you see as the winner?

    Is Ronnie definitely turning up?

Be surprised if Ronnie pulled out at this stage. Think he does make the effort for the big ones.
