Is it ok to purchase a 2nd hand watch via Chrono 24 from the US or the UK?

Is there any hidden taxes or costs?

you will receive a 23% import duty bill when the item arrives into Ireland and passes through customs + shipping / handling fee.

The 23% will be applied to the total cost of your item, including shipping. The shipping / handling fee is a minimal flat fee that doesn’t scale.

These fees will be passed onto you by all carriers / An Post and your item will not be delivered to you until you pay.

If you buy a watch from EBay or second hand dealers like Jomashop they will offer you an option to pay customs up front, so your total cost is sorted at purchase. Your item will then be routed through a customs paid path when it arrives in Ireland.

FAQ: ‘Might I get lucky and they forget to apply the customs?’

A: “No, not in my experience.”

Had two items slip by customs last wk, from the States and Taiwan. Should have paid a couple hundred. Very much an isolated incident I'd imagine.

Happened me a while back that they delivered the item, and then the next day sent a letter with the bill to have it released (which I obviously ignored)! So it does happen. Just wouldn't bank on it.

    And many happy returns.

The Taiwanese package was the bigger value item so delighted with that.

Another package from the States got caught this morn, just happy to (hopefully) have it pre Xmas.
