I asked the question here last week, and one of the poster gave me a break down of what was in each coal, so I put it to the test last week. I’d some green bags and a standard bag of ovoids .

lit both of them different days, but the same way with everything the same. The Green bags, burnt longer, and had a better heat out of them compared to the standard ovoids I’d got.

So it pays the pay the extra few bob in my opinion to get the Green bags. I ordered a tone of them from Wrays over the weekend.

I’ve heard it’s good and handy if you only want a few bags but I’m sure it will be cheaper to buy a ton somewhere

I have 10 bags of columbian but im thinking lately it damages side bricks very quickly on my stove . Also have open fire so fine for that so i might mix it with the smokeless for stove ..

Ordered of cb fuels Enniskillen. Got a ton delivered to Dublin, live on a busy main road, delivery driver said he couldn't park there would be blocking one lane, so he parked 30 meters up road around corner , pallet truck had fork lift on back , drove fork lift with pallet of coal back and up a lane way to back of house , dropped it on gound outside shed and then pushed it in as far as he could so I could close doors of shed. 10/10 to delivery driver best delivery i ever received. Been burning coal last week am very impressed with it. Got premium stove coal £395 + £20 delivery (exchange rate revoult €477.33) Will be buying of them again. Just to say delivery driver rang from his mobile NI number have android phone and was warning me phone call could be spam call, glad I answered. When I ordered i emailed them order number and told them I need delivery with fork lift as it was to go up side lane, not sure if they have more than one delivery truck but didn't take any chances.

Must put them on my list. Ordered from Smokeless Coal Express last week and had the total opposite delivery experience. No heads up on delivery, pallet dropped off at side of road and no communication that it was delivered (I was in work). Only found out about the delivery when neighbour rang me when he drove past my place. Had to rush home and move the coal in the dark and rain. Have bought off other coal merchants previously which have been good but will never buy from SCE again. This day and age it was a shocking delivery service professionally. I know it's not the coal merchant but their preferred delivery provider is an extension of them and is part of the whole purchasing experience.

Had a similar experience myself only they dropped the pallet 80 feet up the road and just headed off. My neighbour called down at lunchtime to tell me. No way I was handballing all that. A load of phone calls later and they finally came back to move it. Didn't receive any information at all what day they were coming or anything like that . Was a pretty annoying experience to be honest but on the positive the coal is great . Got the green eco glow bags.

I've been saying the same thing about CB, coal is 100% and the delivery is the best around.. I'm on my 3rd year with CB and quality this year is brilliant well wrapped pallets too

I'm so pleased with the Grade A anthracite I bought in September (€750 a tonne) that I want to stock up on it. I can't find any for that price now though. Click Coal is €810, is anyone beating that?

Do they deliver South or is it only to NI/UK as shown on their website?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 333 ✭✭Lancashire-lad

CB fuels delivery to Ireland via there own truck. So they can delivery a full pallet to people in Cork Which according to post on this websites. carrys a small forklift truck to move the pallet on to your premises

SlightSlightly off topic but has anyone bought a Smartbunker? I have a pain in my hole with my normal bunker and this looks like a good job. Quick and clean. It's very pricey though so would like some feedback if anyone has any.

"suitable for coal up to 2.5 inches"

    So small ovoids only

I got one of these about 5 years ago and it cost about €100 iirc.

I got one like this from coughlan fuels that takes 250kg, I can’t remember the price now but I’ve had it ten years and it’s spot on, their website is off line now because they are closed

We have it sat up on blocks so the coal bucket sits underneath, slide open the door and it fills away and close the door

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Yep had one a couple of years ago, I got rid of it. Suitable for small oviods only & even at that it used still block a small bit. Nothing that a good kick wouldn't sort out.

Thanks all ..will give the smart bunker a miss so. First year ordering a tonne of the larger ovids so wouldn't be suitable anyway. Couple of good options there anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,277 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

In my opinion get somethjng that can hold a decent amount and has a good solid door, the co op and building supplies places will have some you can look at and inspect

Even at 250kg capacity I’m regretting not going bigger

always used CW for my stove and happy enough after the disaster that was easyglow a few years back (they did send out a replacement pallet though), but CW are in a competitive area now and at €495 for ovoids , they not the cheapest.

After doing a bit of reading on here,

    CW ovoids £412 delivered

    CB fuels ovoids £395 delivered

Wray Group eco glow -golden glow (green bag) £410 delivered.

Rules out the Wray group Red bag as it seems to be smaller ovoids .

Usually light my stove early morning and top up during the day with ovoids and oak logs, so need constant long heat, without curing out the stove insides.

    Any thoughts ?

Smokeless coal express has reduced there price for a ton. Back to the black Friday prices

    ECO Glow green bags £409

    ECO Stove Red £439

Hi, have you tried Smokeless Coal Express ECO Stove (the red bags) in your stove? People on this website say it burns for a long time.

From my own experience, I found that burning logs and smokeless coal together can make the smokeless coal burn too quickly. Once the smokeless coal is properly lit, I reduce the air vent so the coals are just glowing — this helps give a longer burn time.

yeah that looks like a good offer alright , rest group are one a few euro more for red bags at £445 delivered

Hi, the Wray Group is selling an ECO stove fuel (Red Bag) for £385 per ton plus delivery. This may work out cheaper than the Smokeless Coal Express website.

You may be able to get an even better price if you call to order and negotiate the delivery costs, rather than ordering through their website.
