Someone said something to this effect earlier: there's loads of very talented players in the squad, who seem have mediocrity coached into them.

Far too passive in the first half, and we have been all season really. I'd go far to say since Slot has taken over, we've been mostly poor in first halves. 2nd half started ok, but fcuk me that last 15 was about as awful a way to manage the game as I've seen for a long time.

The Robbo sub came about 10 minutes late, and the fact we've no other midfielders really looked like it took its toll. Wirtz looked half dead walking off and Macca, I dunno what's happened there. Doesn't help that Bradley is made of glass and Frimpong decided he wanted to fight the ref. Glad its over as the first half was absolutely dire and the last 15 was panic stations.

Have you nothing negative to say about Slot?

    Even now?

Could you try and talk us through what we've seen there without a reference to last season's title?

You can't hold that against Bradley, Spence fell on his ankle and trapped it under him.

Isn't part of a managers job to instil confidence?

    That should be a given.

We should have scored one or two more, especially when they were pushing with 9 men but our players were out on their feet. We are suffering a bit from injuries at the worst time and that is just bad luck you cannot account for.

Their goal was a mess but they created chaos in the box and no team in the world defends those well. Arsenal conceded late against Sunderland, it is just the way football goes at the moment. Throw men in the box and lump it in, it is not pretty but effective. We needed fresh legs for the quick breaks but due to the injuries we still had Ekitike and Wirtz on the field when they should have been subbed already.

There is also a nervousness among our players from memory muscle this season so it is no surprise it was not great the last 15 minutes, but hopefully they will now feel that it is not going against them all the time and they saw this one out. That will hopefully give them some belief that they can see it out, we do need to sort out our counter-attacks though to kill of teams.

At the end of the night and for Christmas, 3 points is all that matters. Lets hope the injuries aren't too bad and for once we have gotten a little lucky with the schedule as we have Wolves next and at home and then Leeds at home. It will only be good luck with the schedule if we win though.

You seem to have some sort of ongoing issue with me, that's the 3rd time you've had a pop.

Do me a favour and keep your hysterics for someone else

Slot must have it drilled into them to not concede first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,622 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

Tbf, as dire as it was, it's still a win away from home.

Two home games up next, albeit with probably a lot of players out injured and suspended.

How is it possible that eleven players playing against nine cannot simply keep the ball . You often see eleven v eleven playing keep ball.

Anyone any ideas - why Slot has just dropped Robo totally - I don't care his age or legs - 90 seconds was a joke ? Still better than at least 1/2 our back 4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,622 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

Kerkez is number 1. I don't agree he should be, although he has improved. Robbo is still a better option imo.

It's a long season. He'll get plenty of minutes yet.

Even after a win I'm left feeling flat and dissatisfied. It's not the results any more, it's the lack of any glimmer of performance, belief, or working game plan. Which is starting to bring me to that uncomfortable position of wondering if stuttering to a CL spot might not be a good thing if its enough to ensure another year of this kind of football next year. Hope I'm wrong tho

Whinge when we win , whinge we we lose. People need to seriously get a grip. Away win at spurs and seems like people who have already made their mind up on slot are raging we won. We had many chaotic ending to games under Klopp somilar to this. As long as we win i couldnt give a toss how. "This win is worse than a defeat"- gimme a break!

I said It at halftime and nothing really changed after the break ;that was one of the worst performances we've seen from Liverpool in years.

Offered zero in the first half, a team full of centre midfielders, one forward, and passive as hell, even when 11 v 10.

Second half little better, nice goal from Isak and a towering header from Hugo, but that was the highpoint. Never pushed on to kill the game properly, invited Spurs back in the game and nearly paid the price, even if they shot thwmaelt in the other foot through Romero.

No plan, no shape, TWO extra men and lumping the game 50 and 60 yards rather than playing monkey in the middle to kill Spurs, run them onto the ground. Pure childish stuff. Not to personalize it on Slot, but this team is getting worse by the week under the charge of this backroom team-it's a shambles and we're going nowhere.

I don't know how much credit Arne has in the bank, but he's running out of it.

I'd heard Michael Cox of Zonal Marking fame suggest this new formation Slot is using will only work for a short while and teams will figure out ways to stifle it.

We probably need to get back to having more attacking threat in the team and less midfielders!

A training drill for most squads and you wouldn't want to be on the team that had 9

But we were playing with a flat back 9 and every clearance went straight back to the 9 players.

Shocking stuff..never ever seen anything so inept

    Face it lads..we are muck

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,191 ✭✭✭dogbert27

Someone said it earlier but you could clearly see Slot telling the team to push out when they were dropping back.

Is VVD giving on field instructions to drop back and not listening to Slot?

Worst home team in the league and we barely got the win vs 9 of them

What makes Liverpool different is pace power drive energy desire commitment consistency skill. If that game was at Anfield it would have been a morgue. That game was a stepping stone to nothing. Other than Slots insistence on playing out of form players and stamping out morale. That bloke with the hanky on his head never ever should he be allowed around the place.

We practically always beat spurs - do you genuinely enjoy this type of football from Liverpool - I'm watching Liverpool 40 years - the way they actually play football is part of that enjoyment, you'd be in a very very small minority of Pool fans who think - we just want to win at all costs - doesn't matter ?

Anyway it is a futile ideology to not give a toss - because if we keep playing like that we will be losing again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,344 ✭✭✭Alonso77

Couldnt care less how long you have been watching em! I remember the great teams of 70s and early 80s who were lauded used to grind out dirty wins all the time. Brush up on your lfc history a bit and stop living the fairy tale. To win is to win is to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,622 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

The tackle on Isak was pretty poor tbh. Non league type tackle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 361 ✭✭dubguy45

Agreed. The football we play considering the players we have is nothing like the Liverpool I have watched over 50 years. There has been highs and lows but the slow approach now is simply boring and the stress levels watching is unwelcome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,448 ✭✭✭Ken Tucky

Id say most us remember those days.

    Boards is our social media.

Well, it started in 81 for me.

But tonight they won the hard way when it should have been the easy way

There is a theme of getting away with it at the moment that won't last. You can't keep playing as poorly and expecting to get results.

Your going back - a long long way there to a very different time in English football , most teams over last 30 years - and for certain over a shorter time frame - say 15 years , played great football - enjoyable to watch - exciting - fast pace and energy. Dirty wins would be fine if you were wining all around like Mourinho. But we are not. Anyway - I'm not even sure it would be fine , would Liverpool fans genuinely enjoy a win is a win - I enjoy watching Liverpool play their own style of football and sticking to their identity - pass and move. Quickly , goals , goals and style. Anyway - it was spurs away with 9 men , we were absolutely muck and brutal to watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,622 ✭✭✭Dr Robert

Harking back to the good old days of glorious football. Are we back doing this again. I thought we'd passed that baton to someone else 😂

There was a lot of muck between 1990 and 2014! Lots of good stuff too of course.

Early reports from Isak on physioscout are indicating possible ACL for Isak which was my worry . His ankle was caught but the injury seemed in his knee, he was holding his knee after. That’s 9 months out which would be horrendous bad luck .

Lol - yes there was muck at times , but we always had someone , who could pick out a run , take on an adventurous pass forward and try actually break and be creative - what do we do now. Pass it sideways or backwards - even when we are on the break - mad to watch.
