It is indeed. They are a huge club. Higgins won the Longford championship this year with Killoe.

I see a few counties are playing challenge games before Christmas. Mayo v Offaly, Fermanagh v Tyrone. A few others not confirmed.

It’s good to see Donohoe starting to call out the county board re their attitude to feeling they are unquestionable.

You won’t prompt debate if you don’t invite it and they certainly don’t.

He'll get nothing out of them. Their lifelong servitude is the same stick they'll use to beat down anyone who would question them or try to replace them. If you're not on their bus you're a dissenter etc etc. Not a unique situation to Cavan mind.

Has there been any word on challenge games or any more news on ins and outs for the panel. James smith will be a big loss. Midfield is an area we struggle with as it is

I am not sure he is a big loss until he sorts out whatever is ailing him. He did nothing last year and was in and out of games - playing one week, missing the next. Team cannot develop with that going on although I agree midfield is a massive concern.

Superb win for Knockbride ladies . Totally dominated the game from start to finish

    Congratulations to all involved

Brilliant Knockbride display on what is their biggest ever day. Seriously athletic and hard working. Their pace was too much for Caltra. Congrats.

Fantastic performance, huge congrats to them. Some serious players. How is it in Cavan we can produce such talent in womens football but struggle to do the same with the lads?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 cgaa211

fair point. I don’t know who will partner Crowe in midfield. Divison 2 is the strongest it’s ever been

He has a few midfielders on the panel currently. Ciaran Brady of Corofin, Peter Corrigan, Tristan Hoffman, McSeain from Cornafean.

It's still a big step up going up against Ian Maguire in the first league game.

A couple of good players but they were up against nothing Caltra were brutal kicking frees wide from in front of the posts. The low scoring semi final looks to have been the actual final.

The former Mayo footballer Pat Fallon will take charge of Cavan senior team Mullahoran in 2026.

Fallon, who is based in Galway, will be joined by Sean Conlon, also Galway based. Conlon was a coach with Galway when Kevin Walsh was manager between 2015 and 2019.

Cavan team played Dublin in a challenge game in Dublin yesterday. Unsure on players used and scoreline but they played and had a bonding evening afterwards.

The u20s played Westmeath in a challenge game in Belturbet this morning also

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

The U20s are still at panel selection stage. They were putting out two different teams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 shanemcgerts

    anymore info on this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 334 ✭✭ipitydafool

Didn't hear how the county u20's got on but given two u20 club finals were being played yesterday (2 cracking games I believe even if I hate the 3G for anything other than young underage games) then always going to still be at selection stage.

Any other club management news outside the Mullahoran one, I see Munchies are looking for new manager, surprised Stephen McGovern not staying on, has done a brilliant job with them, winning Junior championship and getting promoted to Division 2 with a young enough side….

I'd say he thinks he has brought them as far as can, might aswell go out on Top than been ran out of the club in 12 or 24 months time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭rrs

Was there any of the Munchies players brought into the County panel? The O Shea brothers would be worth a look.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Again, you’d wonder about some of the grading in that U20. Denn had 3 starters from the county minor team on their U20 side and are in Div 4. I don’t see how any Cuchulainns team could be in Division 3 of any comp.

Stephen’s brother Andy has gone to Ballinlough on the Meath border. He worked with Cavan U20s before and a few other clubs.

I would imagine it is tough to work out, and they mostly get it right. Have to use evidence of their previous age grade results to detail it. And sure, you'll get some teams with 2 or 3 really good players but not much else. Probably with that are too strong for lower divisions, but not good enough for higher ones so it's tough. Mistakes are made though, and can be rectified. Mullahoran had to apply for their U20 team to be regraded higher than they were. Turns out to be absolutely the correct decision as they look the form Div 1 team

Cuchulainns were in Division 3 in the league and didnt win a game, i don't think Denn entered a team in the league probably beacause they would have been missing them Minors which isn't a good look for a club either.

11 teams entered the U20 league competition which is showing why many are keen to get rid of it.

Ballyhaise won the Division 2 league and didnt even enter a team in the Championship, they were still in the Reserve Championship at the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Big difference between League & championship. In the league, a lot of clubs had their 20s playing with their senior team or younger lads with their minors.

By sheer numbers alone, there isn’t a chance Cuchulainns should be in Division 3. Just like Denn shouldn’t have been in Division 4. I know of clubs were in Divison 2 wouldn’t have beaten either.

any word on who played against the dubs or how they got on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 556 ✭✭✭mylestheslasher

Dunno but I hear they are playing Sligo this weekend in a location in Cavan.

The WAC lads are unhappy with McCabe again. By all accounts, he ignored Donohoe at the McKenna Cup launch.

To be honest, it again shows the weakness of the County Board and strength of one man in Breffni that they haven’t stepped in on this. For me, they are partially responsible - in my opinion it was quite clear the pair of lads got the clearance to criticise McCabe when he took the Westmeath role and headquarters didn’t know what to do. They wanted to apply a bit of pressure and so used the local media. That is all conjecture but it’s the way it appeared to me at the time.

McCabe is going over the top in trying to prove his point. He could have just spoken to Donohoe and thrown out the same cliche ridden BS that 90% of GAA managers do. Sure wasn’t it good enough to get the original master of it Jim Gavin a run at the presidency!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,940 ✭✭✭celt262

Independant media should not need permission to critise if they do then there not really independent ?

Was be there as the celt or WAC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,611 ✭✭✭rrs

Maybe it's more Donahoe he has an issue with then Fitz. He did an interview with Fitzpatrick for the Celt recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

Well I can’t see any other reason that they suddenly decided to criticise him after a decade of inaction given the dreadful performance of our county juvenile teams.

Donohoe was there as a freelancer so was representing the Celt, WAC & Northern Sound.

The lads also referenced how some managers bring media too close and let them on the team bus. They’re obviously forgetting a decade ago when one of them lived with one of Terry Hyland’s sons and they were on the plane to New York with the squad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,940 ✭✭✭celt262

Looks like it but as i said before its not good that all our local media are the same 2 lads.

I remember after the kerry game Damien Donahoe was praising the performance on Northern Sound. Clifford could have had 6 goals that day. The local media being paid to give views like that is silly.
