Russia-Ukraine War (continuing)

I'm not really concerned with what they say, more by what they do. Would much prefer they say nothing and quietly go about assisting Ukraine to dismantle Russia. The concern of course is that their/ our actions are not as strong as they could be. But that of course is the EU way, and its an undisputed fact (IMHO 😂) that the EU is by far and a way the single greatest institution on the planet, in the history of time, at promoting and protecting liberal democracy. As I sit at my desk in Ireland, there is no place or time in history where/ when I could have had it better. The EU is about the only bulwark on earth against both rampant unchecked capitalism and unbridled authoritarianism. With the US and some of the nations that TACO is cosying up to, we're seeing the degree to which those two previously supposed opposites can quite easily become bedfellows.

When the EU is a thorn in the side of both Trump and Putin you know it's on the right side of history.

But Tusk starkly set out what’s at stake in today’s talks, as he tells reporters that “Polish independence would be under threat if it turns out that as a consequence of poor decisions or a lack of action from Europe, Ukraine war forced to surrender.”

“I want this to finally sink in for everyone – not just for our colleagues here in Europe, but for everyone in Poland as well – that when we talk about the necessity of supporting Ukraine using these Russian funds, it is because we know full well that Ukrainian independence pushes the risk of aggression or war away from Polish borders. as funds for Ukraine run out russia threatens action to recover its frozen funds and profits on them as well ...... given that the EU has been giving the interest to Ukraine the last few years who is going to pay ??

It's an empty threat. Russian courts have zero jurisdiction in the EU.

It's the very same reason western companies who have had their assets seized in Russia have not bothered trying to seek damages from the Russians as EU courts have no jurisdiction in Russia.

It's a similar situation to Missouri and China sueing and counter sueing each other over COVID.

I would be curious if Ukraine brought a case in the EU seeking damages from Russia, could the compensation be paid from the seized assets.

A lot of illogical statements are for domestic consumption only. They'll mention the West stealing their money and other dastardly deeds, while obviously not mentioning anything Russia does. This works when you control the media and are an authoritarian state.

Well actually they are giving bits to China as is. China are getting laws changed in Russia to suit themselves. First the visa free entry to russia to Chinese and now the chinese are leasing land for 49 years and getting laws changed that prohibited local development by Russians to give it seems carte blanche to the chinese. Just because the kremlin are desperate for money and the chinese have it.
