You just made what is usually called a strawman argument. You misrepresented my position into something ridiculous and untrue, and you argued against that. I never said blanket ban, I said restrictions.

They hate us, we don't hate them. Not enough anyway. That's all we need to know at this moment. We need to stop bullets and bombs and knives and cars plowing Christmas celebrations first, and then worry about understanding them.

I am surprised you picked this rock to die on.

Ok how will we stop future attacks without understanding the problem?

"We don't hate them"...open your eyes...

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Was it based on love and affection for those Jewish people celebrating a holiday? And, 'response' is mealymouthed. These psychos wanted to kill as many Jews as possible.

Why did Willie Sutton rob banks? That's where the money was..

I am lost. Who hates us? Who do we not hate enough?

I've checked and I asked only two questions before you started claiming I had asked a question and you were answering it. One was to @tayto lover 'Did I say otherwise?' and the other was to you 'so what if his name was added to a list?'.

I don't trust anything people post on here unless it is accompanied with a link and I'm not talking about a link to (un) social media. In no way would I ask someone on here for information on a terrorist attack. I might ask their opinion but that's a different matter.

I don't want to die by any rock, that's what they do, not me :)

We will stop further attacks by a mixed use of intelligence (surveillance of their indoctrination places) and enforcement (the attackers were known to the authorities, why were they still free in Australia?).

There are around 2 Billion members of the Islamic faith worldwide. Islamic terrorists have been responsible for around 250,000 deaths over the past 25 years with 86% of those deaths in Islamic countries with the vast majority of that 86% being those of the Islamic faith according to France`s Foundation Pour L`ìnnovation Politique (Fondapol)

There are roughly 15 Million members of the Jewish faith worldwide, roughly half of which live in Israel where in just the last few years at least 70,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed.

If the logic of posters advocating for Western countries to ban all members of the Islamic faith from entry because of the numbers killed by those of that faith, then why should that logic not follow for those of the Jewish faith when the numbers killed are proportionally much greater.

I was referring to the mindset of another poster, not just you.

    Specifically this part;

so you stop accepting any of them for the greater good of your own country.

And this is what you said.

And of course, in hindsight, having a much stricter immigration policy with regards to certain backgrounds.

You didn't actually use the word "restrictions" in your post, so you can see what led me to post as I did. Given you want to focus on the word restrictions, can you tell us what exactly you mean by that?

I think there is at least a strong possibility that it was motivated by the desire to kill those whose people have killed tens's of thousands of Muslims and these people just happen to be Jewish.

Do you see the difference between this and the narrative that they only wanted to kill them because they are Jewish?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭Cyclingtourist

    "Why is it ridiculous?"

Because they were targeted as Jews.

The fact a couple of individuals were involved with Israel or the war in Gaza is irrelevant, as it was to those who shot them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,665 ✭✭✭Cordell

can you tell us what exactly you mean by that?

Maybe you should have asked me this before going on a rant based on a lie?

I mean a very severe immigration policy in regards to these people. Accept only a very small number and only if they fill a shortage of skills that can't be filled with people of european origin (yes, that's discrimination, the acceptable type). Then make sure the ones who are accepted are assimilated into the host society, and not integrated and alienated into one-religion community as they tend to do.

have you got sources? I'd like to see those figures. Like for example are you including ISIS as terrorists? And if so are the deaths you're counting including their victims, the armies who fought ISIS and even ISIS.

And have you done a comparison to how many were killed by "christian" nations in the same time? because the civilian death tole in from the Iraq invasion far outnumbers the 250,000 you said have been killed by muslims.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,784 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Because they were targeted as Jews.

    Yes. But why?

Because they were Jewish? Or because the shooters were appalled at what the Jewish state has been doing?

It could have been either, do you have evidence to say it was definitively the former?

There is a difference, the former is completely unacceptable and irrational, the latter is at least understandable even if you still feel it was unacceptable. No?

We've been asked to accept the killing of civilians in Gaza as acceptable given certain circumstances? Why are these victims to be treated differently?

Maybe you should have asked me this before going on a rant based on a lie?

How is my posting in line with the thread a rant just because you have a different thought in your head to what you posted?

What you're asking for with respect to immigration is how it already works?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭Cyclingtourist

Because they were Jewish? Or because the shooters were appalled at what the Jewish state has been doing?

It could have been either, do you have evidence to say it was definitively the former?

Yes because they were Jews celebrating a Jewish feast, just as attacks on Christians attending services are anti-Christian.

    The evidence is their actions.

If, for instance, they'd shot up the Israeli embassy in Australia you might have a point. They didn't so you're just looking to excuse their actions in suggesting it was somehow because they were 'appalled'.

'It could have been either, do you have evidence to say it was definitively the former?'

Why does that even slightly matter?

I mentioned the source in my post, and I presume the the 86% of Muslims killed by other Muslims include those of ISIS and other member of the Muslim faith who died fighting them.

I didn`t include Muslims civilians killed in the Iraq invasions because I was dressing if the the logic behind not allowing any Muslims enter western states is based on the proportional numbers killed, then should it not follow that Jews should similarly be treated. Its not that I favor either being denied entry. I was just questioning the logic behind denying one entry and not the other.

In fact if the same logic was applied to the Iraq invasion, based on the false claims of weapons of mass destruction and the subsequent numbers killed due to that invasion, then that logic would also dictate all U.S. citizens being denied entry.

I'm not looking to excuse their actions, I'm suggesting it is best if we understand them.

Not use the event to advocate for blanket bans or restrictions on Muslim immigration as many are doing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭Cyclingtourist

Well I've not argued for any bans on Muslims.

I understand their actions, they were Jew-haters likely inspired by ISIS.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,135 ✭✭✭ceadaoin.

Their actions are because they (islamist terrorists) hate jews and want to kill them indiscriminately. They also hate "infidels" and want to kill them indiscriminately too. This is because the extreme version of their religion tells them to do this. There you go, solved the mystery for you. Wasn't that hard was it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,784 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Why does that even slightly matter?

    Is this a serious question?

Because if you know exactly why it happened the natural thing then is to look at steps how to prevent that happening again?

And I'm talking about looking at root cause, not just the final act and focusing on that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,135 ✭✭✭ceadaoin.

As long as jews continue to exist, Muslim extremists will want them eradicated. How do we solve the root cause of that exactly? Kill all the jews to keep them happy? You are pandering to terrorists with all this nonsense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,784 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

It's much more likely they were inspired by the IDF.

If someone spoke about the Jewish religion in the same manner, they would literally be hounded out of their job and their lives would be threatened. You haven't solved any mystery, you've just displayed your prejudice.

And you're not the only ones, some of what we've seen in the media following this attack has been scary. Ordinarily I wouldn't be pushing back so much in saying a root cause should be found for this attack, but it has been galling to see Israeli's actions in Gaza justified on account of them being attacked to absolutely zero effort to consider if Israel's actions motivated this attack.

The two religions and the people within are being judged very differently. That is an issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 24,784 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Kill all the jews to keep them happy?

Nice work with the dramatic exaggeration. You'd get a slot on GB News with rhetoric like this.

There is an infinite number of things that could be done that would result in less people being killed on all sides. I'd be much happier pursuing those than excusing everything that is happening on one side while banning all associated with the other.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,422 ✭✭✭Cyclingtourist

It's much more likely they were inspired by the IDF.

Really, must be why they were carrying a home made ISIS flag in their vehicle.

Sure, and a copy of Mein Kampf as well no doubt.

I'm not talking about the Muslim religion though, I literally said "islamist terrorists". Islamist is a distinct term and specifically applies to fundamental extremists. Unless you think all Muslims are islamist terrorists?
