    O M G! Ciara Kelly at 16:00-19:00 🤐 😩 😩

February 2026, move the Dial to anywhere else

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭amlinopta

A worse prospect than the RTE equivalent, and that’s saying something. Good opportunity to catch up on podcasts.

He's brilliant, I view him as the heir to Pat Kenny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,612 ✭✭✭Patrick2010

    Anton is an excellent presenter

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,032 ✭✭✭yosser hughes

Anton Savage has the personality of a robot and about as sincere as Tubridy. He's also heavily compromised when interviewing politicians due to his connection to the Communications Clinic.

It's actually bizarre that he has a broadcasting career at all.

He's at his most animated when talking about cars. He has no apparent interest in music, books, or the arts in general. A complete philistine.

Cannot take Anton at all. Instant move the dial for me. Insincere, polished, inauthentic, but I know he appeals to many.

To think that Ivan Yates could lose his job on a podcast, and damage his career as political analyst over a ¢5k training assignment he admittedly kept quiet; meanwhile a few weeks later the director of a PR agency widely used across the public arena is given a flagship breakfast show on national radio, this simply defies belief.

Will we get a disclaimer on any item where the subject or guest has been advised by the Clinic? Will we feck.

Maybe I'm outgrowing the demographic but there is basically nothing of interest to me on Newstalk, and that's a shame.

I can see Matt Cooper being the big winner out of all of this.

Maybe Shane and Ciara will be better without having to talk crap about whatever inane survey was dreamed up that morning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,272 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

    That is tiresome.

Quite like Coleman though, he's a serious journalist and a sensible sort. Probably be glad to be out of the early mornings.

Just imagine next time terry cant get a plumber shell be onto anton first thing in the morning whinging and we will be getting constant "Now our next story this morning is my mammy cant get a plumber for her 3rd houses 5th smallest bathroom that she wants to renovate"

And for those unaware this literally happened with Kelly and Coleman last year, where they gushed for a minute about how great terry prone is and then had her on for 5 minutes complaining she cant get an electrician to do work in her house…..

She'll be claiming ageism as well like she always does

Shane Coleman batting furiously on behalf of Michael Martin this morning

Who cares if he made a monumental balls up of the presidential.elecrion 🙂?? People have moved on apparently and FF should forget about the debacle (According to Shane Coleman, Dermot Ahearne's brother-in-law)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,237 ✭✭✭mykrodot

Shane Coleman is a Government mouthpiece of the highest order. He has his eyes on a political advisor/PR role in the future. He defends the Government on absolutely everything and has played a huge role in gaslighting the public over any dissent/protests in the last few years. Likewise in the presidential election. I simply can't stand him.

I had stopped listening to Newstalk Breakfast many months ago mostly because of the above and Ciara "me me me me, I, I, I, I" Kelly's screeching voice and cackling laugh .

Its a huge relief they're going, Anton might be worth a listen , he is not the worst. Pat Kenny will be sorely missed, there is nobody of his calibre left in terms of intelligence, articulation and research.

Between Claire Byrne going to Newstalk, Ciaran Cuddihy going to RTE, its a bit bonkers on radio now. We don't know what station we're listening to anymore.

Don't think Anton has anything to do with his mother's business.

    Certainly not a director.

How can he have a job in the media? Fox watching the henhouse

That's incredibly naive, no offence. You thought wrong.

I think he studied Engish. Do think he's a reader.

Terry and CC are embedded like a weed in all parts of Irish media thats how.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,433 ✭✭✭✭expectationlost

Its odd he has been removed from their people webpage https://www.communicationsclinic.ie/about/our-people only a month ago he was here listed as a director https://web.archive.org/web/20250621115858/https%3A//www.communicationsclinic.ie/about/our-people

Anyone have access to solocheck or something like that?

totally agree with you about Coleman.constantly wrong with the way the great unwashed think.all his articles are wrong.facts never right.well suited to Irish radio where thankfully most people have stopped listening too.

Bit of house cleaning before taking his shiny new big gig?

They are in the image business after all.

    Exactly!

Let's see if we can make it look like the Clinic was just a regular, well earned pay cheque for Anton; that this humble PR practice provided for him the formative, lean years in his career, a time where he honed his craft en route to his role to becoming Ireland smiliest, and most completely impartial news anchor.

I am sure on the occasion of his farewell party he tearfully thanked the Chairman and her late co founder for believing in him, giving him his start in his career and hoping that one day, who knows, in the future their paths may cross again.

And no doubt the Chairman will have regaled the audience with a heartfelt story or two of the quiet, fresh faced apprentice that no one remembers hiring but who on his departure will leave long memories behind.

Give me a break. @Allinall He might have removed his name from the website, he might even have actually resigned as director. He might say publicly he has no role at The Clinic.

But he cannot ever deny that he is the only son of the Clinics two founders and (presumably) will become in time, post inheritance, it's major shareholder: and so all of his future wealth and all of his prosperity, and indeed that of his own family is tied up in that business.

To think he could ever be detached from it is delusional, am afraid.

Is newstalk trying to drive listeners elsewhere? Coleman and Ciara Kelly are absolutely awful presenters. Every opinion or side Ciara Kelly takes on any issue seems only taken to get a reaction. Always been painful going back to being a contributor to the George Hook right hook show. Coleman is obviously an FF man. And the hostility towards any guest discussng a positive position on anything related to a United Ireland is scandalous. Particularly from Ciara Kelly

Off the ball is a distant 4th behind indo sport, second captains or RTÉ sports coverage. Clowns, thats the best description for the presenters now. Immature, gimmicky humour

Lunchtime LIVE less said the better but no one could argue thats a good show.

Moncrief is just not for me. I am sure that caters to some and thats fine but I am gone from when Pat finishes until Ciara O'Doherty starts at 4.

Anton Savage will be better than Coleman and Kelly but as others have said his impartiality is obviously compromised.

I just don’t listen to Newstalk anymore not planned or anything just happened - naturally. Slowly went off OTB. Used to occasionally listen to Moncreiff as I enjoyed listening to the left field stuff. There was nearly always a guaranteed daft American, on some odd topic.

But I drifted away from that too. If there was a live match on Newstalk and I happened to be in the car I would listen then.
Honestly in a non live sport context I think the last time I deliberately sought out Newstalk was Pat Kenny doing the Presidential debates.

Like you I find Kelly irritating, Coleman I can see how he could rub people up the wrong way. But he at least seems to have some core beliefs. Whether you agree with them or not. Kelly is just commentary for the sake of commentary.

I find myself listening to RnaG for news Irish language/soort . RTE radio 1 for news Irish language sport. Digital radio for music and a bit of radio Nova for music when I want “background noise”. Newstalk doesn’t even feature now barring a live match. Many years ago I would have been an avid OTB listener. But if no live match - not anymore.

I think it was a combination of them ruining what used to be a quality product. To one that is self congratulatory in tone, and just aimed at clicks and likes. Just the way of the world. A very competitive marketplace these days where any gobdaw with a mic and an opinion can become a “celebrity” no media training required - podcasts. Noise and outrage are much more important than actual quality production as a result.

Maybe I am just getting old!?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Coleman has just stated this morning on Newstalk Breakfast that Jim Gavin clearly forgot he had witheld monies from a previous tenant! He said FF just need to move on, we are all tired of it.

So despite being asked many times Jim Gavin "just forgot" about this tenant, despite the tenant's numerous attempts to get in touch, despite this tenant visiting Jim Gavin's parents house to ask for the return of his money….DESPITE all of this Shane Coleman still insists Jim Gavin just "forgot".

Shane Coleman is cut from the same cloth at Michael Martin, deflect, attack, ignore, gaslight everyone. He has no right lecturing people from his pulpit in Newstalk, dictating to us what is right and what is wrong. He is meant to be impartial!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,237 ✭✭✭mykrodot

100%. I listen to Pat Kenny and then switch off till Ciara Doherty comes on, she is doing a good job, balanced, impartial, articulate, can think on her feet, no screeching or cackling, no "gotcha" moments.

I won't be listening to Ciara Kelly or Shane Coleman. I've said enough above about Coleman (!) and Ciara Kelly makes EVERYTHING about her. NOPE!

Coleman is setting the narrative for the listeners - move along nothing to see here
