    Hi all,

I am looking to export a non-running motorcycle to Croatia, what steps do I need to take? I read online about having to take an NCT? But why if motorcycles don't need to do NCT usually? What documents will I be needing? Can I just shove it into a van and give the van man a copy of the registration certificate? I am truly clueless any help is welcome

    Thank you

There is no NCT or equivalent road worthiness test for motorcycles.

There only reason why you’d need to go through the NCT is if you were trying to reclaim some of the VRT originally paid when the bike was bike was first registered, and there was enough residual value there to make it worth your while. There’s a process where they inspect it at an NCT centre and issue a cert for the residual VRT. It ends with you giving them the reg cert for the new country where it has been imported and registered. That is to prove you have followed through with the export and not buried it in a field somewhere in Carlow or parted it out while fraudulently reclaiming the VRT. 😀

It’s roughly the opposite of what you do when importing a vehicle.

I’d imagine the VRT reclaimable on the bike (unless it’s something large CC and very new) would be very small. And the VRT valuation charge alone would mean it would probably end up costing you money. I’d just bung it in the van and forget about it once it’s gone.

    Interesting idea.

Make it non-running by removing some parts and ship it

next week ship the removed parts😎
