Celtic is where he should go. Get a load of goals, confidence high going into Irelands play off games.

I dont know where he needs to now really. He's only young but he is probably looking at Championship clubs now. That bad injury from a couple of years ago really has impacted him.

The first game in the league for Roma he was excellent but he's fallen off a cliff since then. I think the injury is a convenient excuse to be honest - he seems to be very limited as a centre forward. If he gets a chance in the box you'd fancy him to put it away but to be a successful centre forward these days you need to be more than a poacher. If he goes to the Championship he'll get swallowed up I reckon - its dog eat dog and i think he needs to get into an environment that nurtures him and actually wants to make him better rather than one that expects 20 goals from him immediately. I think that'll mean a permanent move away from Brighton rather than a loan.

Maybe AZ Alkmaar might have a vacancy for a striker for next summer…

On a serious note, he needs to be at a club where he will start every week. He can't be at yet another club where if he goes 3 or 4 games without a goal he will be dropped. Roma are just too big a club to accept 1 goal in 14 games from their striker.

This likely means a move to Championship or a lesser league. He's at the age where he just needs to play, above anything else. I really hope he doesn't spend the second half of this season sitting on the Brighton bench.

He also of course needs to focus on himself. He needs to score more goals, we cannot always blame being "at the wrong club", or with "the wrong manager".

I've been in Peru at altitude (Cusco) and the idea of trying to run around in those conditions is just mental to me. Now, granted, I'm not fit in any way, but a walk down the street had me gasping for air ! Not sure how Mexico City compares in terms of altitude though. Other places in Peru were fine.

Ferguson's just turned 21. He has time yet to find his feet.

I also wondered about Gasperini's comment in November (?) about him only putting in his first proper training session. I wonder is he managing his body correctly (which is the smart, long term thing to do) over killing himself at the moment.

I really hope wherever Parrot goes, it's a move that has him playing football, and not sitting on the bench.

I like the Celtic idea. He should get goals there. I think the championship is too harsh. It's much too physical for someone with his history of injuries. Would Andrews at Brentford have a look at him maybe. They have the Irish connection.

And for this window, the PL shouldn't be a consideration. Tried that last year with West Ham… the stakes for the clubs are just too high, and the level of competition is too high. He needs somewhere that he'll walk into the team for a few months and can just get playing week in week out and rebuild fitness and confidence. If I were him I'd be looking towards different potentially suitable mid-table options in the Netherlands, Belgium, France or Germany. Particularly a club that's really lacking options… even at Celtic he'd face more competition than I'd like in Iheanacho and Kenny. Fully up to speed and confident Ev is obviously far better, but right now he looks a bit of a broken man and needs an easy free run of it.

This is spot on. He needs to be pretty much sure of first team football.

Is it possible Ferguson just isn't good enough for a top tier league? He's had so many chances. I get that he is only 21 but the signs aren't good. He risks falling away in to lower league obscurity at this rate. If things keep going this direction he won't be getting in to the Ireland squad in 12 months time.

He's got serious work to do. Even accounting for injuries he seems like a lazy player tbh (not saying he is but that's just the impression I get when I see him play).

Fabulous. Seems strange in the context of Gasperini's comments though. Was it an elaborate kick up the hole or something!? Maybe Ferguson plead for another chance. Either way, hope he takes it, huge game for him.

Yep, and hit the post 10 minutes ago too. This Celtic team aren't great though. Still, he's looked sharp enough tonight

That's a banger of a touch and finish from Ferguson.

Gasperini - the master mind-games tactician.

Hope he gets his hattrick and proper relaunches his Roma career. There's very few things sweeter in club football than seeing an Irishman be successful. Delighted for Ferguson!
