124kmh gust at my station just now in Arklow

After a mild but showery morning in South Dublin it's gotten noticeably gusty in the last half hour. Heading to Wicklow shortly and hoping no trees down.

    Impressive.

A lttle windier in Greystones. Recent gust of 43 knots/80 kmh.

Very obvious change in wind direction in the last half hour in Cork harbour from S to SW. There was something of a lull as the direction changed but strong gusting has returning from the SW.

I think I just heard a wheely bin fall over. I'm going outside, I may be some time.

Wind has died off quite a bit here (SW Laois) in the past 20 minutes. A quick screen capture from from recent UK met office video for 2pm showing forecast gusts (white = 80 to 95 Km/h, light pink = 96 to 111Km/h). The whole system moves north pretty sharply.

Flight Radar could be interesting today around the airports.

South Dublin is getting stronger winds by the hour. I'm not going out now. Nope. Yella Belly 😊

Quite rough in Cork now, the peak has arrived here now!

How do schools play it by ear though?

Bring in the kids and then when the wind picks up summon the parents in to collect therefore getting more people out in the wind?

Calling it early allows people to get child minding arrangements in order etc if needs be. Many many people aren't in a position to react to ad-hoc calls. There's no fleet of mammies at home now to come and collect kids at the drop of a hat.

I reckon absolutely no closures unless red should be the way and let the government deal with the fallout should any occur. Or better yet people just accept the risk and hope for the best as we did years ago.

But that's not the social climate nowadays.

We saw a snippet of it here on this thread last night about Dungarvan and it wasn't someone trolling it was just someone concerned but their concerns and feelings of disagreement/blame were instantly directed at Principals.

That's the climate Principals are dealing with at the moment and God forbid anything really bad happened it'd 100% landed on their shoulders by a sizeable cohort as wrong as that is imo.

It's no wonder we're seeing these knee jerk reactions in such a situation.

wildest 5 or 10 mins I’ve had here since Darwin

Currently gusting in the 80’s and noisy

Incredibly we have power,I’ve not gone out to survey any damage

Strong gusts in Waterford city 11km from the sea. Few empty bins knocked over. Had to prop up my old garden fence. Business as usual otherwise. See people out walking their dogs etc all morning.

Wouldn't fancy being near old trees or loose slates, on the motorway or closer to tramore but otherwise tame enough affair inland.

    Definitely orange warning weather.

It's a little windier here now, 18mph gusts (Easterly), baro dropping now at 1007, temp holding at 11C.

The wind seems louder high up if that makes sense, clouds whipping by.

    East Meath.

Very strong gusts here in Belfast. The back garden fence is starting to show worrying signs of liberation and the dog has me tortured to take him out ffs. Recycling bins are out tonight so expect to see tins and cardboard all over the place tomorrow.

It's very calm along the west coast. Not even yellow category winds. Maybe it's on the way but we've been in orange territory since 11am.

Surely you mean many hours with no mains power and not no power at all?

These things have always happened. But the short-term solutions are increasingly cheaper. Get a 2kw frame generator and pair it with 2 x 400-600w panels and a solar battery station (solar generator) like a Pecron (an E3600LFP has never been cheaper) and job done.

Storm Bram's strongest winds will whip around the system's southern flank, hence the sudden increase in wind speeds from the south as the storm tracks further north-northeast. Image credits EUMETSAT and Sat24

Some seriously strong winds whipping up in the last 20 mins. in Limk City. Temp has dropped quickly to 12c.

wind has picked up in cork city where I am. I can hear the roof where I work make noise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,547 ✭✭✭✭M.T. Cranium

Expect a sudden increase in WSW gale force winds within 30-40 minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,393 ✭✭✭rino87

Wild enough from around 10am to 1pm, but has died down now completely for the last 45 mins or so...wind dropped off a cliff and its been perfectly still. Managed to get the dog out for a walk on my lunch break, poor fella was shaking during the gusts earlier this morning.

    More to come it seems

Disruption to flights and ferries has meant some cancellations e.g. the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir was supposed to be at the National Concert Hall tonight, but they can't get there.

When is this expected to peak for Wicklow? It's wild here the past 30 minutes with some incredibly strong gusts. Met Eireann and the models had it peaking at around 3 so if it's going to ramp even further for another hour then I am concerned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,021 ✭✭✭Bacchus

It's gotten very gusty here in East Cork over the last 20-25 minutes. I can confirm a wheely bin has fallen over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,105 ✭✭✭Robwindstorm

Sustained stormy winds in Meath at the moment. Cloudy with light rain and very mild. Ready to get the little one from school now. Should be interesting !

Rough east of Waterford city, mind the roads especially the rural ones. Lots of branches down.
