Amber - Wind Warning for Antrim, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry

    1400-1900

Southerly winds, becoming southwesterly during this period, within the amber warning area may increase to gust 60-70 mph with a chance of 80 mph or more around coasts and over hills for 2-3 hours, before dropping again. However, winds will continue to be very strong for some time after the amber warning expires, with the yellow warning continuing until 2200.

A strange gloomy day with a bit of warmth and sun thrown into the mix. Wind starting to kick off in Dublin but not too bad yet. Clouds are moving very quickly.

On a separate note, I have a dull headache that came on this morning, and not sure if its related to pressure dropping or just my bad misfortune :-)

Wind getting up a little here in South Sligo but just a rough morning, very warm and the esb went about an hour ago - it doesn't take much in these parts for that though, second day in a row for outages up here.

Gusting upto 60kmph here near Garretstown in Cork, the pressure has stopped falling though, so maybe this is the peak down here.

Timing for peak winds something like 1-3 pm Clare, 2-4 pm most of Connacht, 3-5 pm midlands towards Dublin.

Cork is easing off mostly because the tightest gradient has now moved inland and winds are veering to west which gives some shelter from higher ground to west, but would expect a few more intervals of brief severe gusts before it really eases after 4 p.m.

Kerry has been in that protected zone of the elongated trough for several hours, I expect perhaps one to two hours of stronger winds now to 3 p.m. but it may just jump past Kerry as the circulation pulls in tighter to the departing low (which is now about 150 miles west of Galway).

M5 buoy now gusting over 110 km/hr and Wexford will likely see peak gusts soon, spreading up Wicklow coast.

strong gusts still very much around in cork city, one hitting the house right now

As I mentioned in last night's post it's the storm's ' rugby ball ' shape that's making it hard to predict . The center is large and elongated bringing calmer conditions. It looks like it will eventually swing the winds westerly in the coming hours giving stormy conditions to the northern half of the country. The pointed end of this storm is now tightening the isobars over us in the east at the moment from a SSE direction. It's stormy with me now in Meath and will remain so for a few hours even when the winds switch westerly, while down south you might now actually escape the worst of the winds. Interesting to see what unfolds.

Agree totally with you. Some schools here in Galway took it upon themselves at 8 clock this morning to close for the day ( braindead) and its milder so far today than it has been for past week. Least most used bit of cop on and said theyd play it by ear and see how its developing.

Gust of 108kmh now in Kildare. Good few trees down.

In a strange place right now in Oranmore, Co Galway where I am sheltered from southerly winds (usually blasted by the westerlies from these sort of storms) so it is dead quiet at the moment. Looking at the wind direction it seems like it will swirl into us around 2-3pm with 100km/hr gusts so looking forward to that.

Connemara and Galway city may see some thunderstorm activity in about an hour and severe wind gusts could develop with that. The other shoe is about to drop in some parts of Connacht.

Some violent gusts now in Co. Wexford. Not happy about my garage roof flapping about on one corner!

Sligo may not be too bad as wind will be SW at its strongest so the West of Ireland shelters us somewhat from that. Breezy now but nothing extraordinary.
