I think it was the Q3 or H1 results which showed MAN based being profitable and returning €10M back to Aer Lingus Ireland.

My guess is that EI are using this strike action as a handy excuse to close the base, repatriate the A330s to Dublin where they will be MORE profitable. If they could get their hands on other A330s then this action may not be needed. And they have no additional A321LR/XLR in the pipeline (A330NEOs not expected until 2027 at the earliest)

Not doubting your logic but this seems incredibly short sighted to shut down a profitable venture, that also provides some diversity for your business, for the sake of a year or 2 having spent a number of years building the brand in the UK.

And if they shifted the aircraft to Dublin would they be able to use them to their full potential with the gate issues and late launch of any new routes they may be considering?

Any update on the 330 refurbishment to new generation seating and PE? This winter or postponed? Any information on the seating provider?

I understood it was always penciled in for next winter

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 10,284 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

I dont disagree that its a short sighted decision. Diversity and robustness might be needed within the next 4-5 years.

Unrelated, EI-XLX will be delivered in January.

    • A320 EI-DEG remains in Madrid
following an incident with the nose gear collapse during maintenance.
Airbus continue to work on a repair scheme, we are hoping aircraft will be back in service by end of February.
    • Delivery of our final A321XLR, EI-XLX is now expected to be delayed until early February 2026.

Could be this week, they have started to adjust schedules so might announce the schedule.

It does appear they will resume MPL.

Didn't realise EI has started selling Costa Coffee on board. Bit of a downgrade in my view but I guess some people must like it. I won't swear on it but it looked like they were using instant sachets, Surely not?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,388 ✭✭✭kevinandrew

Costa Coffee is absolutely rank, worse than Starbucks and that's saying something. Probably even worse on an aircraft.

It was Java Republic before wasn't it? One of the nicest you could get.

Yeah I have to admit I thought it was very poor to be selling on a flight and a further downgrade in their offerings. It's awful stuff. And if it's instant they're using then that's even worse.

Emerald still selling Java Republic, for now at least. It's usually very nice

It is in sachets but it has been designed that way by Costa for airlines no1 for a storage point of view but it is also formulated for the cabin pressure to ensure the taste is the Costa blend whether you like it or not that's a different opinion.

flew to America on American dream liner then back on aer Lingus airbus the dreamer liner was far superior less turbulence anyone else find that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,875 ✭✭✭lintdrummer

Absolutely no way the aircraft type had anything to do with the turbulence. It's just down to atmospheric conditions on the day.

Not to say the Dreamliner isn't a superior aircraft from a passenger perspective, it could well be (I've never traveled on one).

I don't know what Gemuni is but that still sounds like something from a sales brochure.

A330 has a turbulence damping function where the fly by wire computers do some voodoo.

The 787 cabin alt is the real difference to comfort

Several new EI routes showing up on AerLingus website route map from Cork including Santiago, Barcelona, Nice, Rennes, Newquay, Gran Canaria, Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Southampton. Even Dublin is there. All bar Santiago and Gran Canaria were served by EI before. Surely this is some sort of error?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,394 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

I would imagine it’s an error as they load up the system.
That many new routes would require an extra aircraft based, and that has been confirmed as not happening for S26

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,006 ✭✭✭✭Jamie2k9

They rarely update route maps. Gran Canaria was severed a few years ago for winter.

All of those routes except for SCQ have been on the route map for ages and haven’t been taken down. It’s just SCQ getting added it would seem

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 Ca2373

ORK-PMI seems to be reduced to 3x weekly for S26 down from 5x weekly S25, DBV showing as sold out so looks like that’s possibly going although could just be updating schedule.

I’d imagine SCQ (if added) be likely 2x weekly since it’s only 4x weekly from DUB, still leaves a few gaps if the schedule if DBV goes but i’m sure we find out soon..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 266 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

i actually have a feeling that DBV will be cut, but PMI will remain 5x weekly just with the days swapped. It didn’t operate on Wed and Sat this summer when DBV operated, and for S26, Mon and Thurs flights have been cut.

My guess is SCQ will be added and operate Mon and Thurs, and PMI will take DBVs days. EI might be able to fit in a few extra frequencies on routes with DBV being cut too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 Ca2373

Removal of DBV would give 7/8 hours of downtime for an a/c on the Wed and Sat of rest if the schedule stays the same as S25, I would imagine they wouldn’t have an a/c sitting there, especially in peak summer

would seem like a good opportunity for another new route, they were quick to replace FR when they pulled BOD, and FR recently moved Rome to SNN, would seem like a good opportunity for EI imo, it would fill that gap nicely, And Rome’s a popular spot anyways, was reported to be doing well, although realistically something like PMI would fill the gap as you said..

just been talking to a friend of mine who works in Cork and apparently they’ve been told that Santiago and Nice are been introduced by Aer Lingus

I thought Dubrovnik would have been more popular than Santiago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 KB77

He said that Dubrovnik is been dropped, apparently load factors were strong on the route but the decision was made on aircraft utilisation

I see Ei-LRE off to BNA, I thought this was a stretch even for the xlr? Low loads?

  • Moderators, Motoring & Transport Moderators Posts: 10,284 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tenger

If you provided dates and flight numbers you might get a better answer.

Was it an A330 or A321 you were on? What was the weather that day?

And 'asking Gemini" isn't going to get an informed answer.

Full loads have been reported in the past, LR can make it if the winds are favourable, BNA is well within the range specs.
