I wonder if the storm is ahead of schedule

Wexford seeing the worst of it on latest Aperge. Donegal next worst which is unusual as it’s the furthest county from Wexford. GFS also has SE seeing the worst of it, just about red level for Rosslare gfs.

Strong outflow winds from mountains of n Spain likely causing 66 kt winds at sea for ship off nw tip of Spain at 03z … most of the rain has already moved through Ireland now, just small amounts of rain left to fall during the cold frontal passage mid-day. A few isolated thunderstorms possible ahead of that front. My present take on this is, a moderately severe impact on land and highly severe on exposed coasts and marine areas. A few places sheltered by hills to south-southwest may seem to be out of the storm altogether.

There's been an emphasis on this storm that the worst of the winds will be in the West, yet models are showing the South Coast as worst. See the harmonie below, no matter what timeframe the South gets battered. Very dangerous coinciding with schools coming out around 2pm

Seeing that too this morning on a couple of models. Most impact to south coast and up through the Irish Sea (just offshore).

I'll be off to bed soon but I'd say there will be a hell of a lot of action here by the looks of this maps, hope everyone can stay safe..

With the storm hitting the South at lunchtime and school closing time you have a very dangerous set up. There needs to be some sort of direction to shelter in school until after 3pm or close at like 11am

There's a window of extreme winds in Kerry, Cork, Waterford between 12noon and 3pm

Mod Note: Just to mark cards at this point!

Not going to allow the usual weather warning debate/discussion/moaning in this 'event' thread. Posts will be deleted at moderaters discression/without explanation if we feel the thread is being taken off topic.

The warning debate has been done to death, at this stage, and same arguments come up in every storm thread!

If one feels the need to debate/discuss the merits/failings of the weather warning system - thread here:

So with main runways being E-W, does this mean likely delays at Dublin. Strongest winds are going to be from South? Can alternate runway cater for all traffic?

a couple of showers just outside Carrick on Shannon but very calm. Been up since 5am with the thoughts of this storm. I think Eowyn terrified me so much I’ll never relax when I know there’s high winds coming. Missed Storm Amy as we were away.

Hope everyone stays safe & by some miracle, the models are wrong.

Latest Harmonie and Gfs would indicate red for Cork and Waterford, Kerry too maybe.

Countrywide orange warning at different times.

As suspected earlier, shift east with storm, and all counties to go orange.

South coast to go marine red warning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,810 ✭✭✭JanuarySnowstor

Yep your right no red nationwide orange

    Marine red across south coast

Latest forecast data for Storm Bram indicates a slight weakening in wind strength, with the strongest winds impacting southern and southeastern coastal areas. We are moving into nowcast territory with this highly unpredictable system. It’s a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation for Met Éireann when it comes to weather warnings.

Red warnings can be issued at any moment, Storm Amy was a good example when they left it to the last minute issuing one for Donegal
