The former railway station on Railway street - was that a station on the line to Drogheda?

If so, where was the former station on the line to Dublin?

There should be a station where it crosses the N3, so all the busses from Cavan and Kells can transfer passengers to the trains.

Yes, that was the station on the Drogheda line. The original Navan Junction station was west of that, past the level crossing.

I can see your point about adding a station at the M3 crossing near Bective, but adding extra stations also adds time spotted for the train service, slowing down the service makes the service less attractive for people to use it. I'm guessing Navan North is aimed at serving the people from Kells and Cavan, as it will be approx. 5 minutes to Navan North from Junction 9 of the M3

I don’t see the benefits of using the old rail alignment in Kilmessan. Yes, there are two road bridges in Kilmessan, however, if this rail line is to be electrified, are the existing bridges suitable i.e. is there enough vertical clearance for an electrified service?

I also think, too many years will be wasted in court challenges of CPO's for the hotel and for these 15 houses (Although I think there’s more than 15, that would be affected). In relation to the hotel, the rail line would be going through the middle of the grounds of the hotel. I know the hotel, and have gone to a wedding there. They use "The Turntable" area for the wedding ceremony. For them, I think their whole business model would be destroyed.

What would this even cost, (I'm totally throwing figures out there) 15 houses at current market value, so say €350,000 to €400,000 plus (I assume they should get) compensation for moving too, so I'll say €100,000 to €150,000. And then there's the hotel, what value would it be? So CPOing 15 houses could be around approx. 6.75m to 8.25m and the hotel maybe 2m or 3m, that's about 9m to 12m and then, the existing bridges will probably still need upgrading.

So if we are going with that alignment, we will need a location for a station, so if you’re buying the hotel outright on a CPO, it could be a good location for a station again, however, I’m unsure if the original building would be suitable as a modern station and demolishing it, would, I guess, be out of the question.

    My proposal for Kilmessan:

    IMG_1761.jpeg IMG_1762.jpeg

The red is the railway boundary, the orange are buildings to be demolished, and the blue are the existing overbridges. To accommodate OHLE the line could be lowered under the bridges, or, if the worst comes to the worst, they could be demolished and rebuilt. Although the hotel site would be split in half, the yellow indicates a pedestrian footbridge to connect the two sides. The hotel already has entrances on both sides, so no new service roads would need to be built. As a few houses would be cut off, a new road (in green) would be built to preserve their connection to the road network. The Kilmessan station would still be on a new site, but would at least be closer to the town centre. I’m not an expert but I’d be surprised if the diversion (with 3 new crossings) was cheaper.

I mean where the line cuts the N3 at the LC near the Blackwater Retail Park.

Do you know what country you live in. That line is like someone purposely trying to scupper a project.

You just added a lifetime worth of objections.

What would be the advantage providing a 2nd transfer station further away from Dublin? And why go to the expense of building a 2nd motorway connected station when there's a perfectly good one already at the M3 Parkway?

M3 Parkway is the perfect location for a hub for local and regional bus services serving this part of the country. It as close to Dublin as you can get but completely avoids the traffic chaos of Dublin and is rail connected right now. The fact that it's not being exploited for this purpose is wasteful.

I see your point, but that would mean loads of busses driving parallel with the railway line for maybe 20 miles.

What I am discussing is the possible location of the second Navan station, i.e. the furthest north station.

I am suggesting that it be near the Blackwater Retail Park, near the old N3.

Maybe it’s a bit controversial, but some of the alignment changes make less sense, like this:

The old bridge at Bective still survives yet the line is being rerouted to avoid it, seemingly for a single shed. I can somewhat understand avoiding Kilmessan but it hardly makes sense to not use existing infrastructure to preserve a garden and shed.

It been a while since I was down that road, but I think that's not a shed, but Bective station house, which is now a residential house.

I never argued against removing a shed. That's very different to what you proposed.

I mean the shed towards the top of the image, not the station — there’s no reason that would have to be demolished.
