iPhone Dual Sim

    Hi Everyone,

    Just looking for a bit of advice and feedback on using dual sim on iPhone, all contributions much appreciated…

    Wanna separate works and personal, couple of q’s


    1. easy to turn off work sim at 5pm

    2 . getting messages and what’s apps during the day to both sims?

    3. Presume emails normal - just separate accounts.

    4. Calls to both numbers during the day?

    5. Using safari on data - would I have to pick a sim data account?

    Anything other issues people might have encountered?

    I don't have a dual SIM iPhone, but Ive been using dual SIM android for almost ten years. Current phone is a Moto G71. I would be very surprised if the iPhone didn't behaved identically, if not better.

    In response to your 5 points above based on my Android experience :

    1. Yes I can turn off either SIM whenever I like. Although the data speed on SIM 2 is 4G, whereas SIM 1 is 5G.

    2. The latest version of WhatsApp allows me receive messages based on the phone numbers of both SIMS, although I have to manually switch the app between each number to see the respective messages. I'd imagine that WhatsApp on iPhone supports a similar setup.

    3. I've got three Gmail accounts and two outlook accounts on the phone that are a mixture of personal and work. Note that with the work email via outlook, a policy is applied automatically by my employer to my phone that allows them to shut the phone down remotely if I report it missing. I'm happy with that. Same applies to Teams if I install that, but I haven't. You should check if similar applies to you for work apps and email in case you've a concern with it.

    4. Once both SIMS are on, you can makel and receive calls on either number. Voicemail and call waiting can operate as per your preference on both numbers too.

    5. I can use either WiFi, or data from either SIM of my choice. As above, I use SIM 1 as my primary data SIM as it's 5G. I can switch over manually to SIM 2 at 4G if can't get connectivity for whatever reason on SIM 1

    1. easy to turn off work sim at 5pm - this needs to be done manually as far as I know, but you might be able to create automation using the Shortcuts app.

    2 . getting messages and what’s apps during the day to both sims? - SMS and iMessage will work on both SIMs. Not sure about WhatsApp.

    3. Presume emails normal - just separate accounts - no change to e-mail.

    4. Calls to both numbers during the day? - calls to both SIMs work fine. When making calls, you can either choose the SIM to use, or you can specify it in the contact. By default it will use the last one that was used to call or text that contact.

    5. Using safari on data - would I have to pick a sim data account? - you specify the default SIM for mobile data in settings.

    Thanks all.

    So as I understand it now, it’s pretty seamless.

    Everything works as if two phones in my pocket - except only one phones obvs…

    You’ll find that the battery drains faster with 2 sims in the one phone.

    Whereas with 2 phones you’re spreading the battery load across 2 devices.


    Just worth mentioning.

    May not be a concern for you.

    You might need to consider your employers policy about security and personal/ business use. Is the phone being used for both SIM a private or company owned one?

    Also could be issues if accidentally communications sent from wrong SIM or using data from wrong Sim used.

    Personally I prefer the separation of carrying two phones.

    Well for privacy.

    Did the employer provide a company phone? If so then would need to ask if dual sim is allowed in company phone. Or if company sim can be used in a personal phone.

    If no company phone was provided, then they’ve already shunned this privacy aspect imho.

    I've been doing this for a while.

    99% of work communications are via Teams or email. I have notifications disabled through focus time settings - so after 6pm and before 7am I don't receive Teams or outlook notifications (or any M365 application etc).

    If someone is trying to reach me by phone after-hours it is obviously important so I don't turn those notifications off.

    I also have a setting that notifications are turned off on MS applications when I am at home unless I manually turn them on. This is for weekends and annual leave days - just incase I get my head turned to look at something.

    When on holidays I just disable the sim and I don't get any notifications. We are geo-locked via conditional access policy so if I want to access MS apps when away on holidays I need to request access from the internal IT team.
