Do Tesla ever discount anything in the shop for Black Friday (tomorrow)?

I've got €288 of credits I need to use and was thinking of buying stuff today.

Have never noticed it before. But you’d never know.

The computer power has improved a lot over the time airplane Autopilot has been in market. It's like comparing a 80's and 2025 mobile phones. They both are called mobile phones but that's the only common thing between the two. Also the FSD is continuously automatically learning from the fleet of millions of Teslas and in fairness the technology and the reliablity of it (in US where it's allowed) has moved on a lot over the past two years.

But as you say the current autopilot on planes is a very different animal from 1970's autopilot and the planes themselves since the original fly-by-wire tech have gotten way more complex.

Tesla offering FSD beta supervised demos in Europe in the next few weeks. From what I gather, there is still a Tesla safety driver in the driver's seat and you can book passenger seats for the trial. Duesseldorf in Germany seems one of the cities. Might go over to have a look. Will report back here if I do

Fully booked 😒 Can't say I'm surprised, surely there must be a huge interest in this. Not everybody has stuck their head in the sand

Not surprised to see the stock hitting its all-time peak just a few weeks ago and trading strongly.

I agree it's impressive but where's the blizzard mentioned in the title ?

    Visibility was excellent throughout.

The last wham baam video showed a Tesla using FSD during a blizzard.

    This one?

    Do they have heated cameras?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,155 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I seen a model 3 in a car park the other morning. Frozen over except where the cameras are. So I assume yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,766 ✭✭✭✭unkel

All the cameras in my 2017 Model S were replaced free of charge last year (because the car has FSD). I think the new ones are all heated. I can only imagine that all cars with HW4 have heated cameras from factory

    Upgraded to HW3?

I wonder would it be worth upgrading a 2017 75D with EAP to FSD considering it looks like it might be approved for the roads in the not too distant future.

Yes it was upgraded to HW3 for free by the previous owner. Can't believe I have the car for nearly 4 years already

And yes if you already have EAP, I think it is €3750 to go FSD? It's a gambit. You will get all the new hardware for free. And Musk has said that if HW3 is not good enough for unsupervised FSD (basically level 5 autonomous), then he will upgrade the cars for free. It's speculation and we have no idea of time frame, but real FSD could possibly make your car worth more than that spend

Also currently in Ireland (and possibly again in future) you can buy a new Tesla and have the FSD transferred from your old car onto it for free

My (at some stage to be Irish) S has HW3 upgrade and MCU2 etc. €3700 for FSD from EAP. I'd buy it straiight away if I was sure it was transferable. The uncertainty of it is a put off, similar to revenues "reasonable period of time" BS, but at least you know you have some timeframe there and not just a "maybe".

Yep I hate that too. And they keep offering it now and then, but nothing is certain. Would be a really sweet deal if you bought one of the new basic Model 3 or Model Y standard, that don't even have the basic autopilot

In grey. The new stripped out "Standard" Model Y. Got the email from Tesla this morning. That is a lot of big SUV for the money and it has autopilot included! (contrary to some earlier reports)

19" wheels as well, wonder what the battery size is / range?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 517 ✭✭✭rodneytrotter15

Was in the Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick last night and they've a small Tesla showroom about to open with. I say showroom but there's only one car in there and likely space for one.

That really is whole lot of car for the money. It's well stripped down compared to the premium spec, but it keeps the basic autopilot and the 19" wheels, which I thought would be gone. The wheels they put on the US models are horrendous.

Personally, I would go for the higher spec, but if 40k(ish)is the budget, this is a real nice place to be.

Now the wait for the "Standard" Model 3. €33k or thereabouts would make it the best value car (not EV) for sale in Ireland if it includes the grey paint and AP imho

That's cheaper than the cheapest base model Skoda Octavia manual petrol or Toyota Corolla saloon…

I think good news for owners of the original "premium" MY RWD now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,766 ✭✭✭✭unkel

The 2022 LR AWD they paid €73k for in white before any options? Not so good news I'm afraid. This shaved another few grand off their car's value

I'm not sure. The 2022 buyer at 73K was sabotaged by prior upstream actions.

If you want a premium experience, but don't have 51.2k for a new one, then an original Model Y is now more attractive rather than less attractive.

2023 & 2024 pre-Juniper models should now hold up better. Tradebid.ie and the new Donedeal Trade Offer function seems to agree as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,766 ✭✭✭✭unkel

There is nothing premium about the way the original Model Y drives, it is fairly agricultural. The Juniper is a huge improvement. Warranty on the 2022 cars coming to an end too (already gone on high mileage cars), personally I think €25k is all they are worth now

Musk said yesterday that Tesla is getting comfortable with letting drivers use their phone while driving, using 14.2.1. That's an interesting statement, obviously not legally binding, but a big step towards Tesla taking responsibility for the cars while they run themselves. With regulatory approval, that would be an instant jump from L2 to L4 autonomous driving. I expect that to happen likely next year or in 2027 at the latest

According to musk the cars sold in 2014 were hardware capable of FSD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,766 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Not sure how that is relevant to my post you quoted? I am pretty sure all of the above applies only to current gen HW4 cars for now. Even HW3 cars (then next newest gen from about 2019 I think?) might not even have the required hardware to do a minimal version of FSD. Musk has said if that is the case, Tesla will upgrade them for free

What I'm saying is, musk has said a lot of things in the past.

Most of what he says is rubbish.
