Didn't see a thread for this year's Valencia Marathon

    Sunday 7th December 2025

Ran this last year for the first time, had a great time and signed up again as soon as it opened.

Loved the city and atmosphere before and after - transport was great although I found the expo was a distance away and needed a taxi.

Went with my wife last year and stayed in a lovely place but travelling on my own this year and settling for a capsule in the Capsule Inn 😁

Course was flat and only for my hip went at mile 14/15 I was targeting a 2:50-2:55 time - fell 20 mins short of that but the last 400 meters was electric - that blue carpet….🤤

Weather was perfect for the start but best to get over the finish line sooner rather than later

My fourth time to run it this year. Expo use to be at the finish area. You can get a metro to the expo. Just couldn’t last year with the floods. Route i enjoy as it’s really get into a cadence and tempo and once when you get out of crowd you just clock off the kms. Huge water stations so no panic to grab a bottle. Great route for people who come over with you as they can see you in plenty of spots without much walking. Maybe 4 spots in a km of walking

Cool, didn't realise that it was moved out further last year due to the floods…maybe it'll come back to finish line this year.

they moved it last 2 years. It’s grand from centre on metro

Yep heading over for a second crack. Really loved it last year and the time of year suits. Starting to ramp up the training now.

I'm injured. My Valencia entry is available to a good home.

Usual post race drinking spot, lads (and lassies)? Tyris on Tap? 100 metres from Central Market (and my bro-in-law's place, lol)

I'm trying to get the distance up, last Sunday 21k. First time hitting that since Dec '23 when I ran half the Valencia Full. Pace is snail-like and won't change. I'll just be delighted to get to the start line. Even more delighted to get to the finish of course.

Got my number yesterday. 33k+ I had to double check it had the correct wave as expecting a lower number was I was 11k last year and a wave higher this year

Race week and weather watch has started. Could be a on the warmer side as the sun gets up and a little breeze. Hopefully it doesnt get to warm. Wind id hope with enough people that isn’t as big issue and I’ll just have to adjust my plan in where to start so I can get into a group early than taking it a little easier and pick pace up as we go along. I’m usually a don’t worry about pace while waiting it to the thin out

Just checked. FFS, it's been quite cool recently. Saying 21 or 22 for Sunday now. And I'm starting 50 mins later than previous years. Lose lose situation unless the forecast changes.

I know. It was mid teens at the weekend. I’m out 8:25 so really hoping to get most of the way before the temperature really gets warm

They are moving it to the same weekend as Dublin next year. It will surely be low mid 20s at that time of the year. Frankfurt, Dublin and Valencia now all the same weekend from 2026.

The half marathon is same weekend as Dublin marathon. Full is still December

    My mistake, apologies

Might see you in that wave @Trampas . I found it warm last year and looking slightly warmer. Really looking forward to it now

Might do. I take left lane at start. Done it the previous 3 years so why change a habit 😂 plan to start in front of 3 hour pacers. Started right at the back of the wave last year and caught them around 29k and got by easy enough due to a lane opening up but loads with them still. If I do again this year I’d be hoping to pass them earlier but hoping to run in a group this year for target time so if any head wind I can shelter than running into it

20 degs early enough Sunday will be a disaster, purple wave 845 start

Weather getting better for all the wrong ways for running a marathon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 74 ✭✭jconn

I know, up to 24 degs now around 12pm, will be hot early when the sun rises above the buildings, and some wind too I see.
Any advice appreciated guys from seasoned Spanish marathoners?… for a less experienced pale skinned Paddy who doesnt like to run in >18 degs!

Lots of water obviously, hat/sunglasses, salt tabs. Sunscreen, anyting else?

From memory, I felt pretty exposed to the sun on the drag from 20-30k so maybe at the 23k water stop i'm going to put the cap backwards and douse myself in water. I think there's respite on the 35-40 area from the sun and then sure it's homeward bound. Best of luck all.

If Berlin taught us anything, you need to readjust goal time. Meteo-pace suggesting I downgrade my finish time by 3 minutes.

Just been to the expo, my wallet €270 lighter, but I do have a brand new pair of Asics Tokyo Edge :-)

Hopefully it's a little cooler in the morning. The current 6-10 degrees here in Ireland is perfect running temp (for me).

Not looking forward to this race after 6 weeks of sciatica and physio visits, but looking forward to Valencia itself !!

    Best of luck everyone !

It seems like the breeze is from the West which partly explains the highish temps. One small advantage there is that it should be a tailwind towards the end. That bit where you're running away from the end and the city centre, from about 30 to 34 might be headwind. I really hope it changes a little though even at this stage….. Fingers crossed.

Who's on for a jar or two in Tyris on Tap that evening?

Expo was very busy but moving. I’ll be on the flight home after race. Grandparents minding kids for 3 nights so pushing it for 4

Made it round in 3:19. Still struggling with my hip and knee so happy enough with the time. I got no proper long runs in since Berlin so just took it easy and made sure the heart rate didn't rise. Still had a sprint finish in me. The course was great and not overcrowded and weather was fab even though it finished at 22 degrees or thereabouts. It was breezy enough yesterday but thankfully that wasn't an issue today. I highly recommend this race and might come back next year. Now to find some beer...

2:57:21 for me. Just over 1:30 Pb. So no complaints for me. It was crazy congested for about 10k for me. Kept it steady all the way and delight to get home as worried the heat would kill be over last few km

I've made my way to Tyris, but I don't think I'll last long. Shagged from this silly 42k run and a big lunch. And a drink or two. Sitting at the bar in case any fooking Boards weirdo walks in.
