    I'm on the low side of usage but it works out slightly cheaper to be on the smart meter plan. I haven't had any downside but I do avoid using energy intensive appliances during peak hours even before i got the meter.

    I'll make a blank copy of it later and share here. You enter your bill details and it gives you some simple graphs of your bill spend, usage, usage costs etc. Separate tabs for gas and electricity. It's nothing special mind!

    Well, I'm sure if you could let the rest of us know how much better their offer is, if and when, we'd all love to know!

    Or anyone else that's had a call or a mail from the Energia Retention Team - what are they offering once people start the process to leave?

    Just out of curiosity, do cashbacks/welcome credits that you get direct from the energy companies only apply to usage?

    Or are they eaten up by all the other charges (network charges, PSO Levy, Carbon Tax, VAT) too, like the Government credits were?

    What difference does it make? It comes off your bill. Do you think they'll waive the VAT or something?

    I asked the question in thread a few weeks ago, no response. I was with them last year as well, so happy with their service, but then the wholesale price went bonkers. So, your task is to email Waterpower and ask for their latest VTM rates, and share it with us 😝

    The limit of 2000 kWh for the night period per billing cycle with Energia after which unit price goes up - does Flogas have any limits like this?

    Have exceeded Energia limit by 800units ( two EVs taking 30units 5 days a week plus other nightly running things) so considering move to Flogas.

    Thanks for any advice.

    It makes a difference because it will be worth less to me if it does. And I wanted to know the exact information in that regard before making a decision and committing to a contract. So I asked the question.

    Would've thought all of that would be obvious, but clearly it was beyond you. No surprise there.

    Found this on their website.. Looks like they're no longer a viable option. That's a shame, as I loved the notion of giving the small guy my business (especially when they were the cheapest in the market 2023-24)

    Maybe the poster who asked has an arrangement where they only pay for usage, as opposed to other charges, which might be the case in some rental situations. In all fairness, I'd say a number of us here are curious as to why it would make a difference if the cashback only applied specifically to usage as opposed to other related charges.

    Well there's usage, Carbon Tax, standing charge. Then VAT applied on top. If the supplier is giving you cashback it comes off the total.

    Where there's a cash offer it's being given as credit so your account starts in the black. My balance on EI was €100 in credit until the first bill. Flogas actually issued a bill giving me the credit.

    If it's some other arrangement the poster is not dealing directly with the energy supplier so they're not getting cashback anyway.

    Therefore, the question made no sense.

    Seems pretty obvious that you're the type of person who misses lots of things. No surprise there.

    I never in any way posited myself as an expert, financial or otherwise - and, aside from being completely irrelevant, that assertion is also nothing more than a self-serving figment of your imagination.

    You use the word obvious a lot. Incorrectly.

    But you still haven't explained how a supplier would apply cashback as anything other than credit on your account.

    I signed up two days ago with FloGas. I haven't received welcome pack and online account registration details. Did others experience same?

    We left Energia for Flogas. Still in the cooling off period. No call yet with an improved offer but they did email offering a free Google nest audio alongside one of their plans if we switched back. Not interested!

    flo gas are not known for good communication unfortunately, when I first signed up with them my welcome letter arrived 3 weeks later and then a bill came in a week after that

    I read here that they have improved since

    The internet isn’t for everyone

    I agree on the % ...you don't pay in %, you pay in real €.

    Prices for domestic gas/electric should be quotes VAT inclusive as the VAT is not avoidable.

    So with a unit rate and inclusive of VAT, you get definitive prices, whether per KW, or standing charge for comparison across suppliers.

    I also switched to Flogas (from Energia).. got an email on day of signup but nothing since.. although wheels are obviously in motion cos I received a call from Energia with the following offer:
    Dual Fuel Smart Data Plan with a 38% discount   Day 0.2612, Night 0.1436, Peak 0.2933

    Day 8am-5pm and 7pm-11pm           Peak 5pm-7pm             Night 11pm-8am

    Annual Standing Charge €265.01

    PSO Levy €1.59 per month

    Gas with a 38% discount 0.0698

     Gas Standing Charge €141.61

     

    • We will also offer you a free gas boiler service worth €115

    The catch is if the VAT rate should change after signing up to a plan, then it would no longer be clear what rate one signed up to.

    FYI - I was with Energia "Dual fuel - AXA offer non-smart (-34% gas, -35% elec)", came to end of my contract and have moved to Flogas "Smart 24Hr Dual Fuel 30% Discount + €210 Welcome Credit".

    I have solar PV, so I only consume a modest 800kWh of electricity.

    Energia retention team just called with a better unit offer… however, for my predicted usage (gas & elec), Flogas is still marginally better for me (€15!).

    These guys should really make the retention offers before I go to the trouble of switching. If they had, I probably wouldn't have left.

    Energia retention offer:

    elec: unit rate w/ VAT = 24.88 / kWh, standing = €265.01

    gas: unit rate w/ VAT =6.976 / kWh, standing = €141.60

    Feed in Tariff = 18.5

    Got a call this morning as well. I didn't take down the figures but they look broadly similar.

    I get "why" they do it this way but there's little benefit to me to unswitch.

    Just re-thinking my decision to reject Energia's retention offer (analysis paralysis!)…
    if prices rise over the year, maybe the lower unit rate of Energia would be better, rather than the distortion effect of Flogas's €210 welcome bonus.

    However, as I waived the cooling-off period with Flogas, if I were to revert back to Energia, would that mean I'd get charged an early termination fee? (See T&Cs below)

    My motivation for waiving the cooling-off period was that I had wanted the new deal rates to start ASAP, rather than be on out-of-contract (non-discounted) rates from Energia for 14 days. Was that a logical approach?

    Flogas welcome letter:

    Cooling-Off Period & Cancellation
    If you change your mind, you have a cooling-off period that you were provided with when you signed-up during
    which you can cancel your contract without penalty. To do so, simply send an email to cancellations@flogas .ie or
    complete and return our cancellation form. If you cancel after this period, an early termination fee of €50 will apply,
    where applicable.

    I don't think you waived the cooling off period. They give you the option to switch now or switch after the cooling off period. You chose the later and are free to cancel the switch to FloGas with no penalty.

    (at least thats my understanding and open to correction)

    I would second that. My initial email response on signing up with Flogas advised that my welcome pack would be forwarded by email. It came in the post & when I asked for a copy to be sent by email they advised it wasn't possible.

    Then the took a direct debit payment from my bank account without a bill being issued or loaded to my account portal. When I contacted them about this they emailed me a copy of the bill & undertook to sort out the portal problem. That was 5 days ago & it has yet to be sorted. A formal complaint will be winging its way to them if they haven't sorted it by next Tuesday.

    You got a much better rate. How did you reach 38% off? I got 30% off on their current pricing.
