Does anyone else think this decision was a nice money saving decision from RTÉ ? Rather than moral scruples?

How much does it cost to find contestants? There’s not a lot of ad revenue around it is there

What a stich-up. That's literally the sort of move that dictators do. Get the population to vote in a new constitution with promises of some popular things in it but also slip in a new clause banning Presidential term limits.

Most normal people dislike new age Nazis who murder women and children indiscriminately who'd have guessed. Israel better get comfy because this is only the start of a generational dislike they will endure.

I've often been critical of RTÉ but I'm 100% behind them on this. Someone has to take a stand and I'm Ireland is one of them, shame on those countries who think a camp song contest (and I'm a fan) is more important than the lives of their fellow human beings.

Belgium and Iceland are supposedly making a decision in a few days, but Finland have, disappointingly, confirmed their participation.

Great to see RTE aren't going to broadcast it either. Hopefully VM also boycott it.

Well done to RTE and the other broadcasters choosing to boycott, hopefully others follow.

Mad they choose a murderous little hell hole in the Middle East whose leader has an international arrest warrant issued for war crimes over actual european countries.

Germany said they would withdraw in solidarity if Israel was excluded so there was never any chance it would happen.

Question is - is this a defacto permanent withdrawal by these few countries because Israel will still be there in 2027.

Hopefully permanent, this should be the death knell for this contest. Israel will still be genocidal scum in 2077 so really no need to participate in anything those dregs are involved in from now on.

Last year when Ireland weren’t in the final, almost 300,000 people tuned in on RTE. 30% viewership. The year before with Ireland in the final, 660,000 give or take. That’s more than an all Ireland semifinal.

Why do you think there’s little ad revenue?

Well done to RTE. Not only doing the right thing but have been leaders in this.

Even if it's a load of cheap crap I think the rebels should hold their own competition.

RTE bell end virtue signallers. Be delighted if Israel win it now!

The lad who wanted a day of national mourning here when a foreign queen died and was cheering on the US to win the Ryder cup is now cheering for Israel to win. GIVE ME ATTENTION

Honestly probably best to ignore him at this stage. No idea how that person is still allowed an account on here.

    Portugal are in. That's disappointing.

    Credit where it is due.

In 2024 and 2025, the authorities in Israel and its broadcaster turned their Eurovision platform into a blatant propaganda piece on the side of the proto-fascist government in Tel Aviv.

That is, of course, against the rules of Eurovision, but with the backing of big beasts like Germany, there was never any danger they would be sanctioned for doing so.

And so its up to other members to walk away, and I'm glad RTÉ and Ireland have done so with the others so far named.

What will be most interesting now, is the decisions other nations make, particularly ones with a record of strong opposition to Israel's conduct in Gaza.

Will we see a cascade effect, and protests in other countries to do so? If you could get a big beast to walk, even the likes of Australia, and a scattering of smaller countries along with them, it would change the complexion of this from symbolic to damaging.
