US lets Israel invade Lebanon but not Syria. Is it to prevent Russia regaining influence in Syria? Greater Israel über alles?

Two US officials have warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could self-destruct and turn the Damascus government into an “enemy” if attacks on Syrian territory continue.

Speaking to the American news site Axios, the officials said the Trump administration is concerned that Israeli strikes could destabilise Syria and undermining hopes of an Israel-Syria security agreement.

The officials, whose names were not disclosed, said their concern grew after a phone call between Trump and Netanyahu on Monday.

On the same day, Israel carried out three incursions in the Quneitra countryside in southern Syria, the last following statements by Trump aimed at easing tensions between the two sides.

The officials added that the White House was not informed in advance of the attack on Syria, and Israel did not issue a warning to Damascus through military channels as it had done previously.

Interfaith marriages are recognised under israeli law. Marriages can't be performed there but they are recognised and granted the same legal status if they are performed elsewhere. This is similar to other middle eastern countries. Also, Arab israelis, who make up 20% of the population of Israel, have the exact same rights as jewish ones.

Just shows the accuracy of some of discourse pumped out here.

I certainly would take the majority of it with a grain of salt.

    More ethnic cleansing.

Israel announced on Wednesday that the Rafah crossing “will open in the coming days exclusively for the exit of residents” from the Gaza Strip to Egypt.

The crossing was originally scheduled to open as part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect on October 10. However, Israel did not adhere to this.

You're seriously misinformed or are unaware of the reality - they do not have exactly the same rights.

    Good news:

A woman accused of terror offences in Jersey has been found not guilty of using social media to invite support for proscribed terrorist organisations Hamas and Hezbollah.

….but the millions under Israeli occupation rule in the West Bank, Arab East Jerusalem and the Golan don't.

Indeed BB - question everything and offer nothing.

Yes, their marriage laws are similar to those of other non-democratic countries who typically practise a version of Sharia.

As for the Arabs having the exact same rights as Jews, well that's wildly incorrect. There's loads of clear examples where this is true, but perhaps the clearest example of this - following the Nakba, those that remained within the new borders of Israel were conferred with citizenship.
However, the majority of them weren't allowed to return home. Their homes were confiscated and demolished. Leaving these new citizens as what was known as "internal refugees".

    What a beacon of democracy!

There are some here that would disagree of course and would state, like Lindsey Graham, that Ireland is stuffed to the gills with anti-semites.

"It is a standard tactic of the Israeli state to say that anyone who criticises them for genocide, apartheid or ethnic cleansing of the persecution of Palestinians is somehow anti-Semitic," he said (Richard Boyd Barrett)

Putting an innocent person under such stress is bullying which is, in this instance, a kind of terrorism. The judge did not seem overly happy with the verdict of the jury. Arresting old age pensioners and people in wheelchairs for peaceful protests are also bullying that makes a mockery of the notion of a democracy.

The judge also warned that inviting agreement with or approval for the actions of a banned organisation was an offence, and claiming support only for lawful activities was not a defence.

He also urged people passionate about conflicts in the Middle East to be careful with public statements, especially online, as they could cross the line into criminal behaviour.

He said the prosecution acted properly in bringing the case, as there was evidence that could have supported a conviction.

However, jurats concluded Mrs Strecker did not have the specific intent to invite support, leading to a verdict of not guilty on both charges.

Boyd-Barret was scuttled, filleteted , and rag dolled by Colm O Mongain when he tried to flim flam Palestine into a discussion on the recent visit of the Ukrainian President.

I certainly wouldn’t hitch my wagon in any way to that ‘news

I certainly wouldn’t hitch my wagon in any way to that ‘news

    That's an unsurprising given.

The article was nothing to do with Ukraine or how, in your opinion, O Mongain disembowelled Boyd Barrett.

The principle of the application of the "antisemitism" confetti by Israel on any negativity towards them well summarised by Boyd Barret's quote in my opinion.

The most moral army in the world proves how moral it is, again.

I cannot comprehend how any normal person could consider two boys of 10 and 12 as posing an "immediate threat".

It's just plain murder by the murder specialists. They hold no value on the life of Palestinians.

    Haaretz opinion piece:

"Fadi Abu Assi, 10, and his brother Jumaa, 12, died not far from their temporary home in the town of Bani Suheila in the southern Gaza Strip.

It happened last week in an open area that was once used for agriculture, where children used to chase goats or simply play.

Now the area is called the Yellow Line, and the IDF applies a 'shoot first, ask questions later' policy there…

The incident underscores the fact that the Yellow Line – which marks the boundary of the area still controlled by Israeli forces in Gaza – is a real line separating life and death, even if it is not clearly visible on the ground.

In a sense, the lethal boundary is imaginary. Its rules of deployment are arbitrary; it has no clear checkpoints.

Sometimes it is marked by concrete blocks or metal pipes stuck in the ground, and sometimes there is no physical marking at all"

    Jack Khoury

Looks like alleged War Criminal #1 (at large) has reached the end of the road with Trump and his fate is solely in the hands of the Israeli President.

There is no majority support for a pardon so Herzog will likely decline. Or just ignore public opinion, at his peril.

    Haaretz strapline:
Netanyahu asked U.S. President Trump to continue assisting him in securing a pardon in his corruption case, two senior U.S. officials told Channel 12 News, with one adding that Trump believes he has already done everything he can on the matter.

Remember all the posts here about how the hostages must be released for the Genocide to end? I do.

More evidence (if any more was needed) that the Israeli Govt. didn't give two shíts about the hostages - them not being released gave them carte blanche to obliterate Gaza.

    • Ronen Neutra, father of fallen soldier Omer, told a conference organized by the Israeli daily Israel Hayom in New York that "the administration in Israel disappeared" during the struggle to secure the return of Omer's remains from Gaza. Orna, Omer's mother, said it was "heartbreaking" that they got a "warmer hug in the U.S. than in Israel."
    • Yael Alexander, mother of released hostage Edan, said "The hug that we felt here from the U.S. administration was a real one. Everyone wanted to meet us, to speak with us. They knew our stories. In Israel, it was different. It was very difficult. You felt like no one is really listening, no one is taking responsibility."

Maybe no more Christmases in Bethlehem soon? Right-wing American christians may not be pleased.

    https://english.pnn.ps/news/47961

Abu A’liya said U.S. support for Israel and the silence — or mere statements of concern — from other countries have effectively granted Israel greater space to commit further violations. He urged U.S. churches that have publicly expressed opposition to Israeli occupation policies to take action to help protect Bethlehem.

The governor stressed that Bethlehem is among the most heavily targeted areas due to its proximity and connection to Jerusalem, which is facing an extensive and aggressive campaign of Judaization. He highlighted ongoing construction of hotels on lands between Bethlehem and Jerusalem as part of an Israeli plan to undermine Palestinian life in both cities by imposing a new reality through settlements and a network of roads and railways designed to entrench Israeli control.

That's a resounding "bah humbug" from Israel.

Good job yer man was born there 2000 years ago. If it was today, chances are he'd be executed by the IDF before he reached the age of 12. Or held in indefinite "administrative detention" for no reason whatsoever.

I was thinking more of Ahab - but Herod, the perpetrator of the "massacre of the Innocents", is definitely more apt…

People of different faiths can't marry in Israel? That is crazy, who's business is it who anybody marries if they are above age and consenting, they are (despite their misgivings) a democracy. Genuinely wasn't aware of that. Can a Protestant marry a Catholic?

In any other democracy, you can marry whatever faith you want. In most Muslim countries, including in the ME, I believe Muslim men can marry women of other faiths (well, Christian or Jewish), but it is more restrictive for women. I'd be fairly sure a Catholic or Protestant, for example, could marry one another in any of them.

could this bring the govt down? Seems so…

An impending crisis over conscripting ultra-Orthodox Jews into the Israeli army is threatening to undermine Israel's government and split the country.

The Bolsheviks are another more recent example.

Fair play to those who stood up for the Irish embassador in Israel. Gideon Sa'ar thinking that every accusation of antisemitism is a "mic drop" moment. Little does he know how much the word has lost its power in the last 2 years. Will be interesting to see how they cope without this shield going forward from here

I believe for a Muslim to marry a non-Muslim in a Muslim ceremony, they have to convert to Islam. Same as non-Jews in a Jewish ceremony.

Catholics and Protestants are the same faith aren't they? They're both Christian.

I'm nearly sure a Muslim man can marry a Christian or Jewish woman in a Muslim ceremony (a cousin of my wife married a Qatari lad and she never converted, and I had wondered about that at the time and that's what I was told!). I don't believe a Muslim woman can do the same. A Muslim can't marry other faiths (hindu, Buddhist etc), only Abrahamic religions I believe.

Catholics and Protestants are the same faith aren't they? They're both Christian.

Yes both Christian, but different denominations - there are always some hurdles in interdenominational weddings, but these are more religious than civil. Just curious how deep the rule goes, v surprised there would be something like that in Israel.

Good point - It's to the detriment of Jews that the word has been overplayed so much at critical times when it clearly does not apply - especially by senior politicians on the world stage. They simply do not realise how much they have damaged their Nation.

Real antisemites must be delighted and actual antsemitic incidents will be, at best, questioned and at worst simply waved away as "typical Israeli overreaction" and Hasbara. Because that is what they've been doing for two years.

I expect Netanyahu will be pardoned by Herzog, they are stuck to each other.

UNGA resolution telling Israel to withdraw from the Golan Heights passes with 123 votes in favour, 41 abstentions, and 7 against (Israel, Micronesia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Tonga, and United States).

I suppose the US would resume testing its new nuclear weapons on the little islands if they even abstained!
