Think that's a pretty damp way to view it, He was on the Galway panel for a time and Galway at the moment are superior to us and have fresh youngsters coming in who they would probably have on the panel instead of this man as he's had unfortunate time with injuries (so I'm told). Judging someone before a ball is kicked is unfair, we lack actual decent midfielders at the moment and if he's better or kicks up the competitiveness in our midfield area all the better.

Yeah, it depends on different county requirements. Some counties can be overloaded in certain areas while others short. Galway would have serious competition for the midfield shirts although it does seem a bit of a funny move.

The manager has said that we have to stop thinking that other teams are superior to us.

We should be trying to develop our own lads unless this lad is living in the County and playing club football here i wouldn't be bringing him in.

If he has a good attitude and commited he is worth bringing in. Maybe can add something from a winning mentality with Corofin.

Nesty Smith hadn't a great attitude and seemed to enjoy the limelight too much.

It might have helped if the man tasked with developing players in the county over the last decade had tried to identify and develop midfielders rather than going to Corofin for one.

The move is a remarkable open admission of failure of his key objective in his own full time paid position.

Monaghan in Clones it is folks. No fear there, we always give them a rattle and rise for it. Top side of the draw better to be on too

Pass no remarks on mckenna cup and league results come April.

A bit of a appetiser for late spring

He has recalled a few midfielders who weren't given a run under previous managements and brought in some new ones. Tristan Hoffman, Peter Corrigan, Culainn McSeain.

There is lots of players you can identify at a young age but sticking at or wanting to give the commitment is another thing. Thomas Galligan would have been developed but in Australia for the last 3 years.

Couldn't agree more, With his failure to develop midfielders. But if this man coming in will help I only see it as a good move for the county but not for him.

Evan Crowe was starting for Cavan this year against Tyrone and is 20. His club mate David Brady was seen as a potential county midfielder but didn't really cut it at County Senior.

There is probaly more midfielders currently on the Cavan panel then a long time. Conor Casey is in there too.

Maybe previous managers were playing players out of position so couldn't develop a midfieder. Killian Clarke wasn't a county midfielder

Don't worry, if he masterminds a decent division 2 campaign and an Ulster final there'll be lads on here calling him the messiah. Like every county, we are a notorious fickle bunch at times

David Brady never got a run at county level. Graham never gave him time. Definitely had the talent and possibly needed to be more assertive but wasn't helped by being hooked at half time any time he got a game. And then got injured.

He looked sluggish in a few McKenna Cup games and waseful in possesion. Though its winter football so hard to judge fully.

anyone know all new players in on panel? Or is there many?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,849 ✭✭✭celt262

There won't be a panel finalised until after the Mckenna cup.

WAC mentioned again in their interview with Clarke established players not being asked back in but McKiernan, McVeety & Gerry Smith are back in, Faulkner has gone travelling, so who exactly hasn’t been asked in?

Ryan O’Neill was rumoured to be not in, haven’t heard anything on Oisin Kiernan, Ciarán Brady etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭rrs

Ciaran Brady is still there. Killian Brady is probaly gone. Jason McLaughlin could be gone also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,579 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

It wouldn’t be a shock for Killian to go though. He went before and was brought back. McLoughlin wouldn’t be a huge shock either to be honest - he and Killian Clarke haven’t had a good time with injuries the last few years.

From what I’ve heard, there are a lot of unfamiliar and relatively inexperienced players involved not necessarily younger ones either. Hopefully I’m mistaken, but when a county’s head of development needs to bring in players from outside the county, it doesn’t inspire confidence. Looks to have opted out for players that came through the ranks and played with Cavan in years gone by.

More pace was needed in the team. The Donegal, Tyrone and Kerry games showed that. The Shehu brothers if they stay disciplined could add a bit to the panel. Conor Casey, Aaron Shelelton and Cian Shekelton have good pace too.

Well the panel freshened up is no bad thing. Hopefully a few of the new lads will be well fit for Div 2 football initially and a new team can be forged to beat the Farney in Summer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,849 ✭✭✭celt262

Is Casey in there i heard he wasn't and him and the boss don't get on?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 Bduff1

Cootehills Ben McGahan in along with Dylan Edwards from TP. Peter Devine, Ruari Curran and RON dropped.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 cgaa211

any word on the likes of Conor Brady from gowna. Played under McCabe so I wonder if he’ll come back into the panel now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭rrs

Took the year out to get injuries cleared. He possibly is back. Caoimhin McGovern back involved. He has good size which some of the other Cavan forwards lack.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 Breffniblue71

Interesting approach from this years management with Mc Gahan being dropped last year and not including players who played championship last year albeit different positions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭tazman06

Disappointed with Devine and Curran gone. Thought they'd put in the time and would be close this season coming. Thought they had more to give. RON gone is disappointing but think he had hit his ceiling and was limited, if super eager and busy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭rrs

Curan done well when introduced against Tyrone. They would need more then 1 year to make an impact.

I assume O Neil being a minor in 2016, would leave him 27, similarity fortune gone from the panel
