I’ll finish this here. My original point was that I don’t believe we should be providing money to Ukraine. There are many questions over where the money is going.

    Ireland is neutral.

The other posts have been questions directed at me that was never part of my original post .
there is a reason that Ukraine has been denied countless times to join NATO from

    Humanitarian, LGBTQ issues etc

Well you've certainly dazzled us with your impeccable logic and well thought out arguments. Are you sure you have to leave?

The current conflict is probably one of the most clear cut examples since WWII of an invading nation being entirely in the wrong when it comes to moral standing in a war.

    • The Russian Federation did not have to start a war of conquest…and yet they did
    • The Russian Federation did not have to go beyond their stated claims to protect the Donbas “Republics”…and yet they did
    • The Russian Federation did not have to wholesale butcher civilians in Bucha…and yet they did
    • The Russian Federation does not need to bomb children in their beds….and yet they do…again and again and again…

We are in an extremely rare situation where no amount of “ooo they were corrupt” or “ooo NATO expansion bad!” can gloss over what the Russians have actually done, are attempting to do, or more importantly; what they hope to do to Ukraine should they take it over. The Russians are in the wrong, and the Ukrainians cannot be blamed for wanting to defend themselves from this.

This is why Ireland is sending money, as well as any nation that values democracy.

My standing question for anyone who defends the Russians is this: Can you justify the bombing of innocent children in their homes, schools and hospitals? Only one of the warring nations is doing this…and it is the Russian Federation.

No but I will turn a blind eye to your straw man argument.

Anyway looking at your other posters and your spreading of Russian propaganda about corruption like this post here I don't think you have anything valuable to add to the conversation.

Azov are a Ukrainian brigade who were formed as a result of the proxy invasion into Eastern Ukraine by Russia in 2014. Some of their members had some far right views and tattoos - so Russia immediately latched onto that to paint them all as "Nazis" to ferment a false view that all Ukrainians are "Nazis". Azov cleaned up that image and had foreign members.

At the same time Russia was conducting it's proxy war to invade Eastern Ukraine they perpetuated the myths that Ukrainians were "committing genocide" and other crude propaganda.

Whether it was Hitler or Putin today - they still have to validate their invasions. If Putin were e.g. invading Ireland tomorrow he'd be pumping out propaganda about us all being terrorists, about us being corrupt, that we were about to join NATO - anything with a tiny kernel of truth to spin to people in order to rationalise invading.

You'd be amazed at how certain people lap it up.

Have you asked yourself how this information makes it's way to you and not the facts?

Because Russia invaded, committing numerous war crimes and is clearly the aggressor. Giving money to them would be crazy. It's very clear to everyone, apart from the Putin apologists, who is right or wrong in this case.

Every army anywhere ever has people like that. Their existence in no way invalidates Ukraine’s right to defend its liberty.

What's your opinion on the Ukrainian biolabs weaponising mosquitoes to spread 5G Covid in Russia?

Why give Ukraine €125m aren't the French and American governments giving them money hand over fist already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,070 ✭✭✭Ozymandius2011

The US hasnt given them a penny since about March. Money that was given was passed by the Congress.

If the Ukrainian state collapses we will be paying for millions of refugees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,322 ✭✭✭✭Dohnjoe

And another one, with the same theme.

Trump has notoriously cut aid to Ukraine and extracting a heavy price for badly needed arms (mineral deal, etc)

France is supporting Ukraine like most other European countries - not sure why you single them out, countries like Estonia, Denmark, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, etc are giving more per GDP than France.

Why not give Ukraine 125m? We can easily afford it, we have grown wealthy by being given staggering handouts from Europe for decades. And we're not being bombed daily.

The Dailymail is reporting that Putin is talking about war with Europe

Crazy to see the effort being put in to discredit this visit.

So he does. He is also full of manure and is one the most cowardly people in existence. Item#10 of the "peace plan" is "If Ukraine launches a missile at Moscow or St. Petersburg without cause, the security guarantee will be deemed invalid."

The reason for this item is that Putin does not care about people of Ryazan or Voronezh, or citizens of any other Russian city. But if Ukrainians fire a rocket somewhere where he can be, he dumps a big load in his special suitcase.

A man who is lashing out at the world because he's not winning his 3 day special military operation

This has given me a chuckle

I don’t want to be alarmist. But Putin started the Ukraine war by gently introducing the topic of war with Ukraine as an act of defence. He then builds up his aggressive talk. Unfortunately, there are other stakeholders who would tacitly (or maybe not so tacitly) support Putin’s machinations to destabilise Europe

They seem to be mostly a mixture of far right and far left (not entirely a surprise perhaps that the more cranky and nutty elements would be anti-Ukraine and pro-Putin).

Fire works now on Drivetime Radio RTE 1 between presenter and Boyd Barrett on whether Ukraine has a right to self defence. He says he condemns the invasion of Ukraine and Russia should get out but that there is no military solution. Presenter asks him if he believes that invaded countries should just surrender or do passive resistance. RBB accuses presenter of trying to push him into the NATO agenda. Presenter asks didnt the foundation of this state have a military dimension. RBB replies that James Connolly supported neutrality in WW1

Being neutral doesn’t mean having no moral compass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,303 ✭✭✭Charles Babbage

Apparently, they have a right to self defence as long as they don't use violence, unless they are Palestinians.

The tankie politicians of this country are a disgrace.

Sadly it probably takes very little effort nowadays, thanks to proliferation of AI models, and the paying of people in random developing nations to post out rubbish (in this case pro Russia drek) 24-7 for a few euro, surging it as needed locally for some event.

Somebody somewhere should do something about it really before we lose our democracies, but no sign of that yet unfortunately.

Jesus. You'd know something was up today with quite a few new concerned posters. Won't someone think our neutrality and the poor Russians! Tough work for a meat grinder or at least a bag of onions.
