I saw an interesting thread last night.

Now I can't find it, not sure is it deleted or did I dream it.

Reading the local media’s announcement about the recent death of a well-known medic, it’s the usual compliments about their manner, compassion, and ability.

This same medic, however, turned my mother away from their practice when she began showing signs of dementia (without ever saying that was the reason) and refused to prescribe hormones to my sister during severe, potentially life-threatening menstrual symptoms, all because they were afraid of the parish priest.

But sure, a great medic and parent! The sainthood some people get just because they’ve passed away is a bit much.

Insurance companies (motor) if I found your quote agreeable I would have bought it. Stop annoying me with follow up calls/emails/texts.

I'm not very lucky with pens recently. I posted before that I always carry a decent Parker biro and that I'd lost one somewhere, might have even mentioned one went through the wash :-(.

Well today its even more TAing. I went to get my pen out of my pocket and couldn't find it. A bit of feeling for it found it deep in the pocket. When I pulled it out that screw that holds the whole mechanism together had dropped out somewhere. I've looked and can't find it. So that's another tenners worth of pen down in the bin.

The reason I always have a decent pen is that while I do have disasters with them I loose a lot less of them than cheap pens. A cheap biro never stays with me for more than a week.

Somewhere in the cosmos, he said, along with all the planets inhabited by humanoids, reptiloids, fishoids, walking treeoids and superintelligent shades of the colour blue, there was also a planet entirely given over to biro life forms. And it was to this planet that unattended biros would make their way, slipping away quietly through wormholes in space to a world where they knew they could enjoy a uniquely biroid lifestyle, responding to highly biro-oriented stimuli, and generally leading the biro equivalent of the good life.

And as theories go this was all very fine and pleasant until Veet Voojagig suddenly claimed to have found this planet, and to have worked there for a while driving a limousine for a family of cheap green retractables, whereupon he was taken away, locked up, wrote a book, and was finally sent into tax exile, which is the usual fate reserved for those who are determined to make a fool of themselves in public.

My TA is having to deliver those goddamn things on top of a huge increase in parcel volumes. Publicising the fact they deliver 3m parcels a week now but are getting too pedantic about the odd scan going missing during dispatch, not delivery.

But sure at least its beginning to look a lot like Christmas 🤔

Usually those springs/internal parts are pretty standard, you could probably cannibalise a cheapo biro and use it as an organ donor. The original part may turn up, yet.

Not generic unfortunately. Its the screw that holds the main cover cap and pocket clip in place. I'll salvage the refill as they can be a fiver each and very very occasionally a pen lasts long enough to need a refill.

Edit> Added pic as I was bored.

I'm on the fence here. Our postman has van to drive in and out of work (old contract) finishes early most days during the year and if he does a Saturday at this time of year he gets a days overtime and an easy Monday. He also get a decent enough tip from us each year. Maybe rural postman have it easier?

Only thing he moans about is the scans. Seems a big deal if any are missed.

My postman (lovely guy) delivered a parcel then sat in his van on the drive. Eventually I asked him if he was ok and he said he was waiting for delivery time to catch up with him so he could register my delivery. Apparently delivery has to be made at a precise time? Seems a bit odd to me.

Got myself a Grinch meal in McDonalds. That Grinch salt is horrible and I like pickles.
