    Any advice would be helpful

You have just described the typical symptoms of a faulty thermostat. Sounds like it's stuck open. Normally an easy repair but I don't know that engine layout. YouTube is your friend and your local motor factors should have a stat in stock.

All diesels are like that. They heat up so slow compared to petrol cars. The reason they are not economical for short journeys

I find the opposite, its great for short journeys

    In what way?

Diesel engines only run efficiently when properly at temperature, and if you are only making frequent, very short runs, it won't get to that temperature.

Does sound like Thermostat issues alright. However, I had a similar age Qashqai and it turned out to be a blocked heater matrix which was an expensive fix.

    That doesn't sound good

    That makes sense

I think the fact that his temperate gauge is also slow to rise suggests it’s a water temp issue rather than heater matrix

Years ago id take out the thermostat and boil it in the egg saucepan to check it, back when there were proper engines.

Just bring the car to a mechanic, no?
