anybody else notice the price of spare parts for elco burners

its just crazy and whats more sometimes a faulty transformer can also take out the control box as well

better off changing burner to a riello instead

I've only one elco. Not changed any parts yet. I did ask about a cell and cb price in Chadwicks last winter. Even then I thought that an rdb would be an option.

Do different models come with different burners?, my friend installed a Grant Vortex 50-90 Boilerhouse model very recently which has a Riello burner, my daughter is thinking of replacing her 20 yo Heatpac Firebird with a "Heatpac" Grant Vortex, what burner do these have??.

Thanks Jim, will go for that then sometime.

Riello do have an equivalent, but it’s is actually more expensive hence firebird moved to Elco. If you fit the standard non digital RDB, there is no post purge and you are back to some of the problems that existed when firebird brought that boiler out first (with RDB 2.2)

I bought a control box for one recently about €135 + vat. Would that be around what you are seeing? I think the burner complete was about €340+ vat.

yes thats about the price put a few quid on that for yourself and you feel like dick turpin

box on its own is bad enough but sometimes transformer and photocell go at same time as well

the original problem with the rdb on firebird boilers has a very simple fix so not an issue anymore

no issues here with rdb 2.2 on firebird boilers.

You loose a few percentage points efficiency though. I presume you are talking about over airing it and upping the fuel pressure.

The Elco seems to work well at higher CO2’s.

theres no doubt the elco is a very clean burner

but the other issues are really pissing me and others off

at this time of year you need to get a boiler fixed in 1 visit an intermittent every 4 days lock out is not what need

The first batch of the firebird condensing came with RDB2.2 and there were problems with sooting. There was a kind of solution, where you increase the fuel pressure and over air it a little. But the efficiency performance of the boiler was then reduced.

It was the best of a bad situation, but the Elco burner is a better solution. They don’t come with RDB’s anymore.

maybe the elco is a better solution when they are working as intended

i disagree with the elco being a better solution. its a plug and play burner ,hard to pin point intermittant faults.costly repairs and sometimes its cheaper to fit a new burner than fit a new transformer.control box and photocell. this type of breakdown does not happen in riello burners

the earlier issue was back pressure. increasing the pressure and overairing it was not quite the solution.

it was dropping the nozzle size and increasing the pressure accordingly to give the same output.

then dropping the co2 from 11.5 to 11.2 , on checking this efficiency only drops 1/4 of one percent
