I personally can't see any new additions to Saorview now. RTE are cutting back, all of the additional radio stations except for RTE Gold will be gone by the end of the year. If anything, I could see them cutting back to one multiplex to save transmission costs.

Yes it's nonsense talk but that's to keep some people happy. We have a enough tv stations here i would say is channel 9 should be usd for RTE player and channel 10 should be usd for virgin media play

That coming with the next generation Saorview via DVB-I

I don't think the extra channels are DVB-I tests, they have been showing up for many many years when the Saorview MUX's are tuned in, I don't think the tests have been going on that long have they? I'm talking at least a decade ago.

    I agree with that one

They are planning the dropping of the +1s in 2029 … but don't worry it will be 2030.

Their planned new audio app was supposed to launch this year, and a new news app.

While they were due to have a sign in for the RTÉ player launched in 2024, personalised features were due to launch this year.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

They aren't DVB-I test channels but for those in a closed group trial with compatible receivers they could be.

What do you see at LCN 50/51? I have two HbbTV test cards.

This version of the app has news , sport, tv and radio all in one. When you sign in to this or the tv versions your watch list is saved.

That is just regular rte.ie installed as a "web app"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,034 ✭✭✭decor58

I just got on rte online, about a year or more.

The channels from the Saorview MUXs install themselves in the 800s as the TV is set up in NI so I don't have them as standard in the order they would if it was set up for Ireland.

But it is just their website, its not a new app from RTÉ?

It's as good as an app, bookmark it put on the homescreen, all in one, better then 3 apps, news, player and radio.

I see now that RTÉ have retired the RTÉjr brand & have renamed their official TV channel to RTÉ Kids Jr.

The new RTÉ Kids jr logo is also being shown on RTÉ2.

However; I did a retune of my Ferguson Ariva Saorview box earlier. It still says RTÉ Junior on the EPG. 🤨

I see that the rte Junior has changed to rte kids Jr but on the rte player it's still called rte Junior

RTÉ are closing down it's digital radio stations except for RTÉ Gold on New Year's Eve 2025, So, Here are the radio station changes on Saorview.

They were due to close in 2024, RTÉ only put in the application last November to the minister, so that was never going to happen. Much of their new direction taking its time, the new Audio app won't be available until Sept 2026 according to RTÉ, that was due this year, while according the New Direction both RTÉ 1 and 2 are going to have schedule refreshes in 2026, but that looks unlikely now.

Glad that RTE Gold and RTE Chill are not affected, Chill is like a form of meditation late into the night.

I enjoy R1 Extra at times but I suppose they were buying in a lot of their programming.

Disgraceful by RTE. The financial saving must be very small. This is just to be seen to be "doing something"

Well they could spend the €750m they got from the taxpayer on providing services to viewers or on paying high salaries to admin staff. Looks like it was never going to be the services option.

    RTÉ Chill won't actually stay.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,647 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I think Chill is closing, unless its moving tonight time RTÉ GOLD. But you are right RTÉ did not ask for Chill to be close which would not be in line with the act.

I'd love to know why? It's not that it would be a commercial sensitive, considering if anyone one is setting up a radio station today they'd be part of group so they'd have a fair idea, while as historic stations it bares no real relevance. I assume the Department redacted the file, more than RTÉ. Good FoI if you'd be interested.
