Think Trump can get away with his behaviour towards Ukraine because his supporters have no interest in Ukraine so will just think he stopped the war regardless of the consequences for Ukraine .Never thought suh a vile individual would get the high office he did in a democracy.

Don't forget that recent discussions about Ukraine have nothing to do with ending the Russian agresssion on Ukraine and everything to do with the media not discussing Trump's name within the Epstein files

At present it looks like Trump and Rubio are playing a Good Cop/Bad Cop routine with Ukraine while Europe looks on not knowing how things stand, with Trump talking out of both sides of his mouth hour to hour to keep things unsettled. Needless to say, Trump is the Bad Cop with Rubio playing things according to the script, wherever it came from.

What will happen to Ukraine if there is no pease deal. The war continues without the US support and then falls to the Europeans. Its an honest do we foot the bill and would you be happy with that?

The whole thing is a mess. Trump is a laughing stock. The US has lost any sense of trust or credibility

Trump promised that he could end the war in 24 hours. That the war would have never started had he been POTUS.

And here he is confused, flailing, Putins mouthpiece.

Another embarrassing episode for the US

DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, has been shut down.

    How many trillions saved?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,856 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

    $2 Trillion promised…. $0.0325 Trillion delivered (1.625% - Not very efficient!)

The US will still get those DOGE cheques…. right?

the thing about that was actually I’m sure most governments could do with some better oversights on spending and whilst the idea wasn’t awful in itself launching it by hiring a drug addled **** wit waving a chainsaw and roaring chainsaw who then just brought in a pile of unqualified minions was possibly not the best way to set it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 28,401 ✭✭✭✭Peregrinus

Let's not sugarcoat things. The idea of appointing Elon Must to exercise oversight on government spending was awful in itself.

If you started off by thinking "how can we exercise better oversight over government spending?" you would never, ever end up with Elon Musk and/or DOGE. And we may reasonably conclude, therefore, that that is not where they started. This was never about exercising any kind of oversight over public spending. Do not delude yourself that it was.

Fun fact: US government spending is projected — by the US government itself — to be $228 billion higher in 2025 than it was in 2024.

The us under trump haven't been helping the Ukraine with weapons, they have been selling weapons to the EU for Ukraine, they have been intelligence sharing which is vital but I am sure the EU can fill some of the gap as when trump withdrew supplying weapons.

Many Ukrainians who fled Russia’s invasion and found temporary refuge in the United States are now stuck in a painful legal standstill.

Take the story of Kateryna Golizdra, who has already endured six months of uncertainty and may need to brace herself for six more. She came to the U.S. under a humanitarian program that allowed about 260,000 Ukrainians to live and work legally for two years. But when her status expired in May, she instantly became vulnerable to deportation.

Trump was ready to throw Ukraine's safety under the bus in an attempt to win an election.

He clearly couldn't give two f**ks about that country.

This information was available while he campaigned promising a solution within 24 hours.

While we all agree how thick Trump is, he must think the average American is just as f**king thick.

No just his base. Didn't Trumpy say at his rallies he loves the poorly educated? And the crowd cheered that.

Theres a reason MAGA's hate education and had Kirky wandering around campuses whining about woke. Trump needs stupid people to add to his base.

    While at the same time

“The US government has added over $2.2 trillion in debt over the past year”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 31,349 ✭✭✭✭looksee

2.2 trillion is a totally incomprehensible number to me, I have no idea what it means other than its a lot.

1 million seconds is 11.5 days, 1 billion seconds is 31.7 years, 1 trillion seconds is 31,688 years

So it would take about 70 thousand years to count 2.2 t dollars if you were counting at $1 per second. (I think)

The exposure of this has been hilarious. It looks like perhaps two thirds of supposed cranks and headbangers posting divisive or provocative opinions on X to their idiotic followers in the West don't even exist and are just scammers from the Third World trying to earn a buck.

I have long thought that all social media posts should carry a country of origin marker - and commercial sites too, but for different reasons.

Honestly wondering…do they get some money off X itself if the fud and disinfo they post proves very popular and drives traffic?

Or do you mean likes of Russia and China (and the other chaos agents in our world, too many to list them all!) just paying them for services?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,693 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

My understanding is that if they sign up to X Premium, they can subsequently get paid money if they generate large numbers of views, engagement, followers, comments etc. Hence many of these accounts being based in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nigeria etc.

They seem to have worked out that much of the money on X can be made by posting right wing, MAGA style, anti-immigration, nationalistic / patriotic content etc (perhaps reflecting the fact that users of X are often older and more conservative).

A player seemed to have become invisible in the "negotiations" between the Trump Admin and Ukraine. However, according to Politico, Orbán has backed the line Trump is following with his plan for Ukraine while the EU leaders are holding talks on how to respond to Trump's plan.

The link to the Politico story is covered by requests to accept cookies, which I am loathe to do.

Trump has bought $82 million in bonds since August

"In his annual disclosure for the year 2024, Trump reported more than $600 million in income from cryptocurrencies, golf properties, licensing and other business ventures".

There really is no good reason to believe Trump, all them lads getting pardons will be parking funds for him personally offshore as will the Tech guys/companies, crypto is not traceable and would think he is hiding wealth with his oligarchs as Putin does.

Saw a poll on CNN that Trump is still polling in the high 80s in republican voters so they are obviously happy with him, bizarre
