Just ignore it and go listen to Denys for some good news.

Putin understands only direct action. He folds when confronted with force. If the EU shows its teeth, then Putin will treat it with respect, and you will see him squirming trying to appease the EU.

The will to oppose Russia to this extent didn't exist four years ago and it certainly doesn't exist now.

It's got a very "Munich 1938" vibe about it. "Give us what we want now and we won't ask for more in the future"… Probably as sincere as Hitler was then.

Best solution is for Europe to send troops into Western Ukraine to free up UAF forces to push the invading scum out.

While you're being so responsive, how about this news? Any thoughts?

Noone knows when that video or photo was taken. In 2014, pro Russian separatists/Russian agents and Ukrainian patriots alternatively took over the city council building in Kharkiv city.

There is no need to send soldiers. Ukraine has something like 600 thousand people in the Armed forces + hundreds of thousands in the territorial defense. There is no possibility that the EU can send even 1/10 of that number.

But the EU could help with the air and sea defenses at a relatively low cost.

    Zelensky isn't mincing his words.

It sounds like the Americans really have laid down an ultimatum to accept the deal or lose US support.

Russian military bloggers are accusing General Valery Gerasimov of feeding Putin lies about how the battle in Kupiansk is going.

The Russian pro-war blogging sphere is exploding with accusations that Gen. Valery Gerasimov, Russia’s top military officer, fed Putin a false battlefield victory report about Kupiansk, according to The Moscow Times 📰⚡️

Z-Blogger Revolt: “Where Did Those Encircled 18 Battalions Go?”

Some of the biggest pro-war channels, including Voennyi Osvedomitel, tore into Gerasimov’s announcement:

🚂 “This looks like racing ahead of the train.”

❓ “Where the 18 Ukrainian battalions that were supposedly encircled in Kupiansk disappeared to is unknown.”

Another major channel accused Gerasimov of once again painting a fake picture of victory for Putin — not just in Kupiansk, but in nearby Pokrovsk as well.

They called the claim that 15 Ukrainian battalions were ‘blocked’ near Kupiansk-Uzlovyi “shocking.” 😬

🎭 Hardline MoD-Linked Blogger: “It’s All Smoke and Mirrors”

A channel close to Russia’s Defense Ministry — usually ultra-loyal — broke ranks and blasted the Kupiansk capture announcement as “smoke and mirrors.” 💨🔍

The author complained that the Kremlin keeps rolling out “victorious briefings delivered by men in spotless camouflage reading from a page” — many of which are later debunked by Ukrainian videos and battlefield evidence 🎥💣.

Their warning: these staged victories are hurting Russia more than helping, by giving Ukraine easy receipts.

🧐 “No evidence,” says Dva Mayora

Another military channel, Dva Mayora, took a calmer tone but delivered the same blow:

👉 Gerasimov’s grand announcement came with zero objective verification materials.
Translation: Show us evidence — or stop talking.

🪂 Elite Reserves Rushed to Pokrovsk

Meanwhile, reports say Russia pulled in elite paratroopers from the 76th Air Assault Division to reinforce its struggling offensive near Pokrovsk — a sign the situation is far from the clean “victory” Gerasimov presented 🎖️🚫.

I am not sure about that. 4 years ago the EU could hide behind the USA. Trump made it clear that the American support is not guaranteed, so Europe must take more initiative.

  • Moderators Posts: 5,617 ✭✭✭Azza

Each time the US puts pressure on Ukraine to accept a peace deal, you get this doom mongering narrative presented in the media that Ukraine must accept the deal as they are out of options and out of manpower which implies they could collapse at any moment. I'm sure that Ukraine does have significant manpower issues and I'm sure the situation around Pokrovsk is very difficult for Ukraine and that it will probably fall relatively soon (massively behind schedule) and while loosing it would be a setback for Ukraine, it's far from a fatal loss. It's fall won't suddenly enable Russia capture vast swaths of Ukrainian territory. The war will continue to be this slow grind for the foreseeable future. Russia making incremental gains at the cost of high casualties.

Now I can see from the Trump administration why they might try to pressure Ukraine via cutting off arms and intel because Ukraine otherwise has the means (via EU aid and its own production) of simply ignoring them and continuing on as is. But at this point the US is not supplying any arms to Ukraine in the form of aid, its Europe purchasing them from the US to give to Ukraine. Does Trump really want to cost himself those weapon sales. The EU must make it absolutely clear to Trump that if the US tries to force such terms on Ukraine, the EU-US trade deal is dead as well.

Which European countries do you think would be likely to confront Russia without the NATO shield.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,071 ✭✭✭Ozymandius2011

What "US support"? Trump has stopped aid months ago. Any weapons going to Ukraine are sold.

Russianisms have been found in the text. The WH is now admitting it was written by Kirill Dmitriev and Stephen Witkoff.

And still some posters here pretending everything is fine, Russia is about to collapse, Ukrainian victory is imminent. The level of delusion is insane.

These words from Zelensky, direct from the Guardian, say what the reality of the situation is.

Zelenskyy warns Ukrainians that “now is one of the most difficult moments in our history,” with “difficult” pressure on Ukraine as it “may find itself facing a very difficult choice: either loss of dignity, or the risk of losing a key partner,” or accepting the 28 points or facing “an extremely difficult” winter ahead.

It's official: Trump's USA is on the side of Russia in this war. And Europe is too pathetic and weak to tell him to go f*CK himself

Trump now saying Ukraine signs this capitulation deal by thanksgiving or else lose more territory.

What is left to say about this scumbag?

Analyst on RTE Radio 1 says he cant see Zelensky signing it. Thinks if he did there would be protests.

This is a deeply compromised White House. It has been penetrated beyond the wildest dreams of the Soviet KGB. There are members of that administration that were born in Russia like Gor, and one who is married to a relative of a Russian oligarch. The Steele Dossier has not be comprhensively debunked even by the Mueller Report.Trump lost a lawsuit against Steele in London some years ago.

How much more territory does he think they could lose?

He already wants them to give up Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk and Russia to keep what they have in Zaphorizia and Kherson

At present rate it would take Russia years to get all of Donetsk that Trump wants Ukraine to just surrender

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,852 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

I'm aware of that, but you fail to see the difference between Turkey shooting down a Russian plane that violated its airspace and an EU/European jet shooting down a Russian jet in Russian airspace.

One is an act of defense (backed up with an ability to trigger article 5) the other is an act of war (which wouldn't be backed up by article 5)

If EU countries want to force a no fly zone above Ukraine they have to be willing to shoot down Russian targets over Russia and at air defense sites in Russia otherwise their planes would be shooting ducks.

Given that Merz, Starmer, and Macron are unpopular figures at home, what kind of action do you think their respective electorates would allow them to take? What kind of action do you think should be taken? If the goal is to help Ukraine win the war, then I don't think a few thousand Europeans sitting hundreds of miles from the Russians in western Ukraine is really going to have much of an impact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,071 ✭✭✭Ozymandius2011

The Russians have violated Baltic airspace many times.

On September 19, 2025, three Russian MiG‑31 fighter jets allegedly entered Estonian airspace near Vaindloo Island in the Gulf of Finland and remained there for about 12 minutes.

According to Estonia, the jets didn’t have flight plans, turned off their transponders, and didn’t communicate with Estonian air traffic control.

NATO scrambled Allied aircraft to intercept and escort them out. In response, NATO convened under Article 4 to discuss the threat.

2014 was the first annexation. 2022 the second. Weakening the Ukrainian army will ensure there will be a third. The Russian demand for demilitarised zones on the frontline ensures these areas will be over-run when the invasion resumes, like the ones the OSCE were monitoring were in 2022.

The full text of Zelensky's speech. Doesn't sound like a man about to bend the knee to me:

Ukrainians, there comes a time in the life of every nation when everyone needs to talk. Honestly, calmly, without speculation, rumors, gossip, without anything unnecessary. As it is, as I always try to speak to you. Now is one of the most difficult moments in our history. The pressure on Ukraine is now among the heaviest. Ukraine may now face a very difficult choice: the loss of dignity, or the risk of losing a key partner. Difficult 28 points, or an extremely harsh winter. The hardest, and further risks. Life without freedom, without dignity, without justice, and to believe the one who has already attacked twice.

People expect an answer from us. But in fact, I already gave it on May 20, 2019, when, taking the oath of loyalty to Ukraine, I said in particular: “I, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, elected by the people as President of Ukraine, pledge by all my deeds to defend the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, to defend the rights and freedoms of citizens, to adhere to the Constitution and laws of Ukraine, to fulfill my duties in the interests of all compatriots, and to elevate the authority of Ukraine in the world.”

For me, this is not a protocol formality for a tick, this is an oath. Every day, I remain faithful to every word of it. I will never betray it. The national Ukrainian interest must be taken into account.

We will not make loud statements, but will calmly work with America and all partners. There will be constructive search for solutions with our main partner. I will provide arguments, I will persuade, propose alternatives, but we will definitely not give the enemy reasons to say that Ukraine does not want peace, that it is disrupting the process, that Ukraine is not ready for diplomacy. This will not happen.

Ukraine will work quickly. Today, Saturday and Sunday, all next week and as long as it is necessary in 24/7 mode, I will fight to ensure that among all the points of the plan, at least two are not missed. These are the dignity and freedom of Ukrainians, because everything else is based on this: our sovereignty, our independence, our land, our people, and Ukraine’s future.

We will and must do everything so that the result is the end of the war, and not the end of Ukraine. The end of Europe and global peace.

I just spoke to Europeans, we count on European friends who definitely understand that Russia is not somewhere far away, that it is right next to the borders of the EU, that now Ukraine is the only shield between comfortable European life and Putin’s plans.

We remember Europe was with us. We believe Europe will be with us.

Ukraine must not see déjà vu of February 24, when it seemed we were alone, when nobody could stop Russia except our heroic people who stood like a wall against Putin’s army. It was certainly gratifying when the world said, “Ukrainians, they are incredible. God, look at those Ukrainians, how they fight, how they resist, what titans they are.” And it’s true, absolutely.

But Europe and the world must also understand another truth: Ukrainians are, first of all, people. For almost four years of full-scale invasion, we have held back one of the largest armies in the world. We hold a frontline thousands of kilometers long. Our people endure attacks, missile strikes, ballistic strikes, drone strikes nightly. Our people lose loved ones every day. Our people want very much for this war to end. We are, of course, made of steel, but even the strongest metal can break. Do not forget this—be with Ukraine, be with our people, be on the side of dignity and freedom.

Dear Ukrainians, remember the first day of the war. Most of us made a choice. A choice for Ukraine. Remember how we felt then? It was dark, loud, hard, painful for many, frightening, but the enemy didn’t see our backs running away. He saw our eyes full of readiness to fight for what is ours. And that is dignity, that is freedom. And that, truly, is the most terrifying thing for Russia—to see the unity of Ukrainians.

Then, our unity was aimed at protecting our home from the enemy. Now, unity is needed as never before so that peace in our home will be worthy.

I am addressing all Ukrainians now. Our people, citizens, politicians—everyone. We must come together, get a grip, stop squabbling, stop political games. The state must work, a wartime parliament must work united, a wartime government must work effectively. And we all, all together, must not forget nor confuse who is Ukraine’s enemy today.

I remember the first day of the war, when various messengers brought me various plans, points, ultimatums for ending the war. They said: “Either this way, or no way. Either you sign this, or you will simply be eliminated, and somebody else will sign as acting President of Ukraine.” The result is known. Many of those envoys became part of an exchange fund and went home together with their proposals.

I did not betray Ukraine then. I felt the support of each one of you, every Ukrainian man and woman, every soldier, volunteer, medic, diplomat, journalist, all of our people. We did not betray Ukraine then, we will not do it now. I also know for sure this is truly one of the hardest moments in our history.

And I am not alone—Ukrainians believe in their state, we are united, and in any future format of meetings, discussions, negotiations with partners, it will be much, much easier for me to achieve honorable peace for us and convince them, knowing 100% that the people of Ukraine are behind me. Millions of our people have dignity, fight for freedom, and deserve peace. All our fallen heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine, who now are in heaven, and deserve to see from there that their children and grandchildren will live in a dignified peace. And this peace will be worthy, effective, long-lasting.

Dear Ukrainians, next week will be very difficult, eventful. You are a mature, intelligent, conscious people who have proved this more than once. Who understand that at this time there will be a lot of pressure—political, informational, various kinds—to weaken and divide us. The enemy does not sleep and will do everything to make us fail.

Will we let them do it? ... We have no right. And we will succeed. Because those who want to destroy us know us badly, do not understand who we really are, what we are, what we are about, what kind of people we are.

It is not for nothing that we celebrate the Day of Dignity and Freedom as a state holiday. It tells who we are, what our values are. We will work in the diplomatic field for our peace. We must work united inside Ukraine for our peace, dignity, and freedom.

And I believe, and I know, that I am not alone—my people, society, warriors, partners, allies, all our people, worthy, free, and united, are with me.

Happy Day of Dignity and Freedom. Glory to Ukraine.

The line is holding for now thanks to the drones. It would make you wonder how is Ukraine continuing to supply this pocket. We're not seeing much footage of mass Ukrainian casualties coming to its aid like we see with Russia. I know most here wouldn't follow source's that'd show that anyway but I do.

Russia has plenty of fibre optic drones. Could Ukraine be using underground tunnels or pipes to send reinforcements or maybe drones to send supplies.

Ukraine dodged agent trump earlier this year but he's trying to corner them now. This is the Russians big play as the frontline is relatively stalled and their energy sector is collapsing with winter looming.

3 more years of trump still to go. With him under serious Epstein related pressure they'll do well to come out of this unharmed.
