The man doesn't have a point. The man continually breaks the law. The man is an imbecile.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Brave Saint Enoch ran away! Bravely ran away, away! When Gardai reared their ugly head he bravely turned his tail and fled.

Bravest of the brave, Saint Enoch.

The main issue is that he cannot accept that he has been sacked for abusing his manager.

I'm fairly sure you're going to try insist it's something else. It isn't.

His accosting of the principal, his refusal to abide by his suspension, his refusal to abide by court orders, his repeated contempt of court, his repeated disregard for the law… those are the main issues.

Had he engaged reasonably with the principal regarding the child in question to work out a solution which ensured there was no way he would have to compromise on his religious beliefs, there would be no fiasco to speak of. That did not happen. The path he chose instead, is what has led to all of this.

It's not about transgenderism, it's not about religious rights. It's about a man who repeatedly broke the law suffering the consequences of that.

Well the only person to blame for the issue you claim to actually care about not being addressed is Enoch for choosing to ignore the proper channels to address his original issue so now its solely about his continuous refusal to stop breaking the law.

Local Guards don't want to suffer the wrath of Mother Burke every time she sees them.

He verbally assaulted his boss and by all accounts, appears to have given the impression by his raised voice and inability to engage as a civil member of society, as someone who could have progressed to physical assault. He is a danger to himself and others, if not jail, a psych ward. If someone was roaring abuse at you and gave genuine fear that they would physically assault you, does that mean they shouldn't face jail time because it hadn't got that far yet. Does that mean that continued and unreasonable verbal assault is not assault?

So with him hiding out now the problem is solved. A couple of spot checks a week by the guards at the house is going to be cheaper than jail and keeps him away.

so the judge made a comment this week questioning where the Burkes were getting the money from . They seem to have money and none of them seem to work . Even the round trip to the school from home 5 days a week is going to be a substantial fuel bill ..

So why hasn’t the tax man got involved with the financial side of all this . Surely if people have an undeclared income the revenue should be involved. If any ordinary Joe soap had means that wasn’t being declared they would be investigated.

The older kids all have professional jobs, and the father would have a pension. I imagine very austere lifestyles are lived (even if there's been some discussion about how expensive Ammi's hair care routine must be in the past), and if money is being pooled, there'll be plenty to go around.

I'd love for them to be found to be getting dodgy American money, but the reality is that they're too severe for the dodgy Americans. The Westboro Baptists said they were going too far!

If the school didn’t have to pay him they would probably jump at the idea.

I reckon what’s happened is, he’s dressed up as a woman and no one recognises him 🤪

Personally, I'd stick him in Mountjoy, tell him straight out "you're there as long as you want to be, just say you'll stay away from the school and you walk out that very moment", and leave him in prison. If he wants to spend the next 50 years behind bars, leave him to it, it's his decision. At least with that he'd have escaped mammy.

Spot on. This is precisely what Mr. Justice Cregan said in the closing pages of his judgement:

    Sanctions for such contempt

    185. It is clear that the imposition of fines on Mr. Burke has failed to stop him from

breaching the orders of the court. He has disobeyed this court order as he has disobeyed all

other court orders. He has not paid a euro of the figures voluntarily. It therefore serves no

useful purpose to continue to impose further fines on him.

    186. It is also clear that the appointment of security guards has failed to deter him from

breaching court orders and entering the school premises. He is confronting the school guards

on a daily basis. He is recording his interactions with them and posting them on X. He is

constantly waiting for an opportunity to enter the school if a security guard is not present. He

has driven a number of cars onto the school grounds ignoring the security guards.

    187. Mr. Burke has repeatedly been given his liberty by the courts and he has repeatedly

abused that freedom by trespassing on the school premises.

    188. There is now, in my view, no longer any option left to enforce the order of the court,

other than to imprison Mr. Burke again for contempt of court for repeated and flagrant

breaches of the court order. I will therefore order his immediate committal to prison. Mr.

Burke will remain in prison until a review date is set by this court. Mr. Burke however has

the keys to his own prison and, if he wishes to purge his contempt, then he can be released.

Fines don't work to end Burke's contempt, so no point in fining him

Security guards don't work to end Burke's trespass (contempt), so no point in putting further onus on the school to block him

He has been given 3 "second chance releases" and it didn't work, so no point in releasing him again and hoping for the best

The only option left is to put the end of his incarceration firmly in his own hands - Sit in jail Enoch, for as long as you like. You're free to leave at anytime, all you have to do is to respect the court's order. Simples.

Not only him though - the other members of his family too who made such a circus out of the court proceedings - let them all stew in jail until all of them purge their contempt and agree that they won’t disrupt legal proceedings in future

Better to put him in the central mental hospital rather than mountjoy. A month or two in there might shorten his cough!

If Enoch is The Fugitive, who is the one-armed man ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,486 ✭✭✭✭road_high

for what though? You can’t just go committing people to mental institutions on a whim. People may not like the Burkes, their actions or ways of expressing themselves but I’ve seen nothing of their behaviour that would say to me they’re genuinely mental ill (having experienced plenty of it from family and others in real life).
Equally I might say someone going around calling themselves a “they” or the opposite gender to their body and DNA indicate- should they be committed to the CMH? you go down that road it’s a dangerous one

It appears that if he chooses to purge his contempt he's off the hook.

So if in Enoch's broken brain he still works at Wilson's, What's his excuse for not showing up to work this week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,361 ✭✭✭✭elperello

    It's not going to happen.

No mental health professional would have anything to do with such a proposal.

    It's just a silly suggestion.

That has been the way since the start of all of this. He is intentionally choosing to remain in contempt.

    Spot on.

The current impasse might be the best outcome. If Burke stays "missing", he won't be trying to enter the school. This is the exact outcome the school wants.

However it does leave a lot of loose ends, namely an outstanding warrant and a pending appeal to his dismissal.

Will he have to produce a doctors cert for missing work at the gates?
