If traffic moves that slowly I guess Pat should cycle to work.

Was Pat in his car or on a scooter?

Can't wait for Irish doctors to twig the growing burden of cars, vans and trucks on our emergency care system.

And indeed, our cardiac care system, our diabetes care system, our stroke care system and most other care systems.

Call me a cynic, but… "Highly paid medical consultants who drive everywhere in their very-top-of-the-range Audis, Mercs and Beamers have a view negative view of alternative modes of transport on the road."

Yeah. Nothing to do with the horrific injuries they have to deal with on a regualr basis.

Pretty sure the stats show more horrific injuries from cars and other vehicles than escooters. Don't really here them coming out calling for more enforcement, or more cameras/ anpr to reduce them.

But that would be an attack on the hard pressed motorist (them).

anecdote warning - i know more people injured in scooter incidents in the last two years than i know people injured in car collisions in the previous 10. and i know a lot more car users than e-scooterists.

To the degree mentioned in the report? I suppose I should take the win that it's the first time anywhere close to my age has been bracketed with 20 year olds in a very long time!

The stats are the stats, but at the same time when I see road behaviour and the impacts on life (lives and life changing injury), escooter usage is way down the list.

it clearly falls into the 'low volume, high risk' category, while being very visible. kids are now using vehicles capable of faster speeds than mopeds were 20 years ago, with less safety gear and (arguably) more unstable in use.

    it's obvious low hanging fruit.

Exactly. Nothing to do with it. Bit of cop on from parents. Bit of actual regulation from Govt. when they had the chance. Bit of enforcement of laws by Gardai. That's all that is and was needed to be honest. Not Nanny-State PSA aimed at a cohort who contribute to a tiny fraction of the carnage and chaos that is the roads. There's almost no will at any level of Irish society to tackle road safety, so forgive me for being cynical when the bleeding hearts come out to lecture.

Garda going on about the gluaiseacht ar na cosáin, the seacáid féiceáilach & soilse absent from riders. An e-scutter sounds about right to describe some n'er do wells that use 'em 😊

Tá sé molta gan e-scutar a cheannach do ghasúir don Nollaig. Labhair an Garda Eoin Ó Máille faoi na rialacha a bhaineann le he-scutar. https://www.rte.ie/radio/rnag/clips/22561085/
