So I had this happen to me and just throwing it out there to see what others think.

So bought a Cupra tavascan 251 in a cupra dealership about 20th sept, few dates later received logbook and taxed the car. In mid October got a speeding ticket from Garda send back the form few days later got a letter from the garda saying no further action needed no and disregard previous notice. Hurray such a jammy fecker 👌Then last week received a call from Cupra salesperson saying that Volkswagen group had received a speeding ticket for my car (same speed same place same reg) and could they have my licence details. I refused and asked why vw had received a speeding ticket for my car, it turns out that vw had re-registered my car in their name ( along with 5-6 others) and only became aware of this when the speeding ticket was issued to them.Cupra ireland rang yesterday to say sorry,  I asked them how they could register my car without informing me or my permission no answer.I asked them how that could be done and does it breach GDPR as effectively they stole ownership of my car Without a signature of sale or bill off sale. My understanding is also that if my car is not in my name legally then my insurance is null and void. The car was in registered in vws name for 3-4 weeks before they discovered the issue. Thank god I was speeding 😉I appreciate getting a call from them saying sorry but thought they might have offered something (new car 😉 just joking) like free service. Is it reasonable to look for something like this or should I let it go and chalk it up to a learning moment?Cheers

    Joe

While I would be curious about the registration issue, I’d be glad to have got off the fine and points.

I’d write a letter requesting same from VW to clarify how it happened and why. You still had an insurance interest in the car, despite the change, but can you be sure there are no additional owners on it now?

I know dealers are treated differently, but will it now show additional owners on the cert once it's corrected?

I've ask they for clarity around the additional owners they said initially no extra owners would be on it and I asked them about the legality of my resignation cert

not so sure he'll get off the fine and points. they will be pushed back to him eventually i think. The ownership issue doesn't change the fact that he was the one driving at the time/location over the speed limit.

but i would be very very annoyed with VW over it.

Your car was pre-registered so you must have got a discount buying it with a 251 plate in September.

What was the actual date of the speeding offence ?

I'd say its something to do with having bought a pre reg or demo car and they are supposed to retain the cars for x number of months to get a demo allowance from the manufacturer.

Someone did the ownership transfer and then likely undone it.

It's very common on pre reg cars that dealer tried to hold ownership for a while.

Since you have the car, keys and the Vehicle Registration Certificate in your name you are the owner, for any purpose including insurance. If the car is registered in some revenue records with another owner that doesn't mean you aren't the legal owner.

Not worried really about the speeding points or fine. I am the second owner and the car had 7500km when I bought it

VW , will most likely just forward your details to AGS, and you'll get a FCPN in the post again, unless time has run out for them to name the driver.
