To be fair he is only repeating what has been said on this thread numerous times.

Man is it that time of the year already? I haven't even started my shopping yet.

Pity he wasn't there for the verdict. Would love to have seen a recreation of this

Won’t need the brown satchel for a while it’s said!

" A baleful and malign presence"

So it continues. It was clearly farcical that he was so flagrantly defying court orders for as long as he was.

I'm struck by how completely self defeating it all is. If he had challenged his suspension through the regular channels and in a normal manner, who knows how things might have turned out.

As it is, all they've done is turn it into a circus and he's spent 500 days in prison.

But, then, this is who they are.

Delighted to see they are calling out the behaviour of the entire family and going after the lot of them.

Poor Daddy Burke will be lonely this Christmas when they're all locked up. And his car is seized.

Great to read the judges comments.

    He got it perfect.

Bang him up until he is prepared to live under the rule of law like the rest of us.

But on a negative note, thats at least 1 security guard out of work for Xmas.

Jail the whole lot of them. Bunch of angry loons just looking for attention. The judge fairly exposed their shallow characters today.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Round of applause for Mr. Justice Cregan. About time someone laid it on the line to these absolute chancers.

At the very end of this article.

He will give another ruling on other issues in the case including the possible temporary seizing of vehicles belonging to members of the Burke family, next week.

They could be without cars in a week :)

You should read the article first BB.

"The judge has also ruled that criminal contempt proceedings should be taken against Mr Burke as well as his brother Isaac, sister Ammi and mother, Martina for their conduct in court hearings."

If we were in Israel they would have been shot. You know how the IDF operate.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Enoch in prison, 3 others likely to follow and no cars, all because Enoch didn't use the correct procedure to voice his concern.

Good to see the judge taking no nonsense from them.

I note that the RTE article indicates that Enoch should be produced from prison to the High Court for review on 18th December. I hope that the courts do not release him from prison for the school break for Christmas this time. He would only be waiting at the school door on the first day back in January. He should be left in prison for as long as it takes for him to purge his contempt.

What a muppet, did he not get bet up prison last time? You would think that'd put you off.

Is it that time of year again? Jaysus, better start the Christmas shopping!

Imagine telling a High Court judge to "wipe that smirk off your face", like he's a 13 year old cheeky pupil.

The absolute state of that family. Nothing but trouble and time wasters.

I've a feeling that this Judge when he came in was building up to this ruling. He challenged Enoch a lot more than others did and got into arguments with him about the case, effectively giving Enoch the rope to tie himself up in.

this is the best of news, also a push against other members of the mob is great. Bunch of hateful bigots.

Judge Cregan is to be loudly applauded for this entirely accurate and absolutely appropriate judgement. He has condemned the entire Burke family for what they are.

If there is one caveat, it is that it shouldn't have taken this long, and the school and it's community should have been better protected over this entire grotesque display.

Flouting and abusing and acting vexatiously towards the law of the land, the Constitution of the State and the Courts convened in the name of the people, cannot and must not be tolerated.

If it ends up that the entire Burke clan, all 12 of them, end up as cellmates and neighbours on a couple of landings in Mountjoy and Dóchas, so be it.

I thought the last time he came out from prison, I think it was earlier this year, he gave a speech that seemed to me as if he was emotional and it appeared to me as of he was reaching a breaking point. That's what it appeared to me as. I know the goal of prison is not to break him down. It's because he is ignoring court orders. You can't be ignoring court orders. It makes a mockery of the law of the land. There are many people every day who have to seek court orders especially in domestic violence situations and you can't be ignoring court orders.

Did I see news last week or the week before about his appeal? Basically it was a stage where it was going to be heard but he went against protester against a member of the appeal again. Basically a delay tactic. With him now gone back to prison it will also delay his appeal again. Can the judge not rule that the appeal takes place? Can Enoch get a day release from prison to attend an appeal? It's disappointing that it continues on.

I find astonishing that some members of their family studied law. Surely they would have been able to advise Enoch and the family about possible scenarios and outcomes?

Has anything like this ever happened in Ireland before? Like protesting civil law and prolonged ignoring of court orders? It's just so so so so so long now.

All sense left the entire family in this situation years ago. Even if one of the legally trained ones tried to raise that, they'd be shouted down for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭goldsparkle

I know when he came out from prison the last time he gave a speech ranting about his usual issue and then saying something like 'all this will be over if you agree with me'. Not those exact words but a lot like it. I can't be bothered looking for the video. Even at that point he wanted it to be all over but he's too stubborn.

But that's not how it works. He's ignoring court orders and this is a bed of his own making. All of this will come to an end if he was to obey the court orders and the law of the land. Maybe hopefully this time he may learn something from all this.

The judge said that he will be going down the route of contempt of court for other members of his family. What does that mean for them? Will they get court orders to stay away from court or will they get fines or prison? I don't know why that will mean.

If they have to go to prison, is there any chance of keeping them all separate?

I'm open to correction but I think as the judge is considering their behaviour to be criminal contempt (because the contempt was displayed directly to the court) they could potentially be sent to jail a lot quicker than Enoch was. There wouldn't be a need to apply to the court the judge could just give them a sentence.

Most likely, if charged and convicted they'll get a fine but there will probably be some kind of suspended sentence that can automatically be triggered if and when they don’t pay it.
