Are you still able to log in? (pop your email)

    Any bounces?

i would love Mail2web.com back so i could check it on there

Indigo.ie mail is still working for me. If your password is really wrong, it'll be a struggle to get it reset. There's no public facing method to do so, and Eir staff are clueless on how to do so manually.

is it still mail.indigo.ie as the incoming server?

No, that was the outgoing one. You collect from pop.indigo.ie.

Just double check that thunderbird is set to use plain pop in the password settings (no encryption) on port 110.

I'd strongly advise anyone with (gofree.)indigo.ie email addresses to move off it (email contact /site logins). Probably not a bad idea for eircom.net email addresses too.

Sure most of the support staff weren't even born when indigo was a thing :)

thank you I have just put pop.indigo.ie and changed and put my full email address in the user name box and tried it again and now its downloading emails again thank you for replies .

there is always that niggling doubt that one day that gofree.indigo.ie address is going to be withdrawn and I thought today was that day!

I still have an active indigo email account but I moved everything vital away from it a long time ago, not only is it unsupported but it has the same password for 20 years and no way of changing it so more than a slight security risk.

It had been riddled with spam and scammers but I guess it is so old it's even on their ignore lists now, it's been nearly spam free for the last few years.

Just checked and it is working fine for me so safe to say it's a problem on your end Andy, most likely you are using the wrong login details.

As JD rightly points out, it could go any time. After Eir's really scummy behaviour when they starting charging for Eir.net mail addresses, I moved everything away from it.

I think I have had my gofree.indigo.ie address since windows 95 or windows 98 era I think it was - downloaded it to my computer using the indigo CD and outlook express (off a PC Live magazine cover I think it was) 😀

yes sorted now thanks i put pop.indigo.ie in server for incoming and my full email address for username. for some reason my username was the word just before @indigo.ie so not the full email address .

Yes I still like using my indigo.ie address for when I am signing up for stuff just in case they spam or hack me

For your own sake, stop using it. Set up a new gmail account for signing up for stuff

It was the year 2000, I remember it well and how unreliable it was.

I'm in the same boat went offline on thursday and Eir are useless, speak to your email provider I'm told. Surely they can't just switch it off without notice, problem for me is that email is linked to everything and I never went gofree alway had @indigo.ie. Logs and passes credentials fine just won't pull the emails of which I know there's loads.

I still have my Indigo installation disc. Dial up in those days was a 1892 number.

Outgoing mail was smtp. Incoming was pop.

This was always my main email address although I had a couple of others for certain purposes.

Years ago the smtp stopped working (could receive mail but no reply) but I think I found a workaround for that.

Then I changed my login details and lost them so haven't been able to log in since.

I probably have 100's of thousands of mails waiting for me.

yeah the workaround for the SMTP more than likely was you had to change it to your current Internet supplier , so for example if your broadband supplier was imagine you would have to change smtp.indigo.ie to smtp.imagine.ie to send emails if it was sky for broadband something like smtp.sky.com or something like that to send email

Yup, they locked down smtp.indigo.ie to Eir only addresses to prevent spam mostly. Common to all ISPs these days.

I'm amazed any of those legacy ISP email addresses are still working! They have to be costing somebody money to keep them going, right?

Eir did keep a small amount of indigo.ie stuff running. They still have the indigo IP subnet, and the original DNS servers, una.indigo.ie and ann.indigo.ie still work, and the two mail servers pop and smtp. If they kept the physical hardware, then maybe a few hundred euro a year for power and 4u's worth of rack space in a dusty corner. Or they could have just virtualised them somewhere, so the annual cost is next to nothing.

Is the gofree.indigo.ie email still working and what are the email server settings?

it's pop.indigo.ie port 110 to collect mail. Sending may be messy as changes in email security over the years makes it awkward. You'd need to use your own ISPs SMTP server to send out, but a lot will reject that due to the difference in sending network vs the indigo.ie mail domain.
