The level of despair in here over a presale is something to behold. A small-venue show sells out quickly and suddenly we’re conducting forensic audits, drafting conspiracy charts, and behaving as if Ticketmaster has staged a coordinated attack on personal dignity.

The best part is the sheer intensity from people who, if asked to name two Hayley Williams songs on the spot, would immediately develop a deep, academic interest in opening a new browser tab. Yet the loss of a presale ticket has taken on the tone of a sweeping cultural tragedy.

    Here’s the unglamorous truth:

You didn’t get presale tickets. That’s it.

    General sale is next week.

If this is the emotional peak over a presale, I dread to imagine the collective crisis when the gig arrives and some of you realise the setlist contains more than the one chorus everyone confidently hums.

Would you like to borrow a crane to lift that strawman you've built 🤣

Are the people emotionally peaking in intense despair in the room with you now?

    "Level of despair" 😂

Three or four posters simply said they couldn't get tickets, acknowledging its a tiny venue and the likely usual scalper interest in any tough-to-buy gig. Are you reading posts from somewhere else?

Your two posts on the Hayley Williams gigs are two of the most melodramatic nonsense posts I've read in a long time in this forum on Boards. You might need some fresh air.

level of despair is the label on one of the sliders on the Cure’s mixing desk

Cop on to yourself. Anyone posting here about Hayley Williams tickets (or trying to get them) clearly is a fan of her and her solo albums - not that it should bother you. I think it's fair to say we all expected it to be a bloodbath and that odds weren't in our favour.

What was added to the above is that despite HW taking measures above and beyond what most artists do to ensure fans have the best chance to get tickets is that it was then identified that TM would be the site to which tickets could be sourced. Using TM (undeniably) reduced chances further.

If TM wasn't used there was still a very outside chance of tickets (2,000 capacity venue and option for people to buy 4 tickets) - no one is feeling personally attacked.

For me bafflement trumps despair but surely understandable as there is no general sale you allude to.

To put things simple the artist put out info to suggest it was something it really wasn't regarding sales.

Even to the point had many plaudits praising the move prior to practice but it was a bit hoodwink and realised the moment the link took you to TM.

Even before I got 1800 in queue I had accepted I was done.

Nowhere on the announcement or subsequent poster were Livenation/TM mentioned.

There is no general sale for Ireland only in countries that don't allow a closed shop but will be slim pickings there anyhow.

It was also suggested prices were reasonable but @ €80 it's more than her bands last gig (headline) but that's a different story.

As for your ramblings about her music she has more followers on insta than the band that shot her to stardom.

Her latest music has been on Rolling Stone,Jimmy Fallon could go on but very minimal research you could do will indicate her solo work is a far cry from the wholly obscure you seem to think it is.

I’ve never defended them. I’ve only ever pointed out when the culpability laid elsewhere. TM is an easy scapegoat when bands decide they want X million a night and allow 10 different ticket type and crappy packages.

Another backdoor job it would seem.

It would seem Dublin sold out in a fraction of the time it took other cities like London, Manchester and Glasgow which makes zero sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭Fanirish

all of those were double or more Dublin capacity? O London was gone instantly with a queue greater than 20k

I saw some people who got for London did so through the venue website but it appeared this wasn't to be a thing according to that initial dialog but hey ho.

    Wrong and wrong.

    Roundhouse capacity 2500

    02 Glasgow capacity 2500

    Manchester Academy 2600.

Thats not even taking into account thet the Roundhouse had a members presale and Glasgow had an O2 presale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,707 ✭✭✭Zardoz

Yes from reading online it seems they added a members presale last minute and O2 added one for Glasgow last minute too, a bit of a clusterfuck all round.

    I've never defended them

I mean… this is surely parody?

When they got rid of their fan guarantee, you defended them essentially saying "they're not obliged to do anything for the benefit of the customer, so why would or should they".

When they charge a second fee on resales, you defended them saying that a charge of €10-€15 to relist and resell each individual ticket was fair due to admin costs (which is complete and utter nonsense).

When they lock out transfers of tickets until a few days before, you defended them saying that its to stop touting (which isn't their job to police), despite the fact that at the same time they allow resales on their sites and rake in that juicy second resell fee.

Etc, etc, etc. I could go on and on.

I’ll admit my earlier posts leaned a touch melodramatic, guilty as charged. But let’s be honest, the Friday moaning about presales isn’t exactly productive, and throwing shade at fanirish isn’t helping anyone. They’ve been patiently pointing out that Ticketmaster isn’t running a personal vendetta against fans, and that a lot of the frustration actually comes from the decisions the band and promoters make.

Here’s the unglamorous truth: you didn’t get a ticket. Thousands of others didn’t either. That’s a tiny venue, a high-demand artist, and a handful of presale allocations. The band decides how tickets are released, the platforms used, and the packages available. Ticketmaster just executes that plan. Complaining about the mechanics or taking it personally doesn’t change that reality, it just makes the forum a little louder and more exhausting.

Maybe take a breath. Accept that these things are chaotic and frustrating, but also completely normal. And give fanirish some credit for actually trying to explain how the system works instead of just joining the chorus of moaning.

roundhouse is 3300 and national stadium is between 1500 and 1750 cap depending if corner seats are sold which most times aren’t

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,067 ✭✭✭Fanirish

TM is part of a capitalistic entity, acknowledging that it doesn’t have to offer a service indefinitely is not defending them withdrawing it.

Resales involve additional work, thus a reasonable fee is to be expected. Resales involve additional tickets which have to be answered etc

Ticketmaster has no involvement in when tickets are unlocked , that’s between promoter and artist to decide. Pointing out the lack of TM involvement in a particular decision is not defending them.

You undersold yourself there boss. Not only was your post a touch melodramatic - none of the posts added anything here. You're basically saying suck it up and stop moaning but managed to make chapter and verse of that. Find other things to comment on that actually contribute to something.

They normally have unique stages and not springsteens cow shed

IF it's true both the unconfirmed artist and Bon Jovi will have said cow shed

Still not taking it as gospel because a lot more stuff like crews, merch stands etc need to be setup. Imagine having 2 different artists in a 48 hour period for a stadium gig (obviously so much easier for Arena's)

Lady Gaga seemingly touring, dunno if dates line up as think Anfield on the cards, so August wouldn't match up

Ah U2, will they ever release a new album.

It will be 8 years next month since they released their last album, thats an eternity.

Id say Bono is suffering writers block, surely they have some old unfinished stuff they could resurrect.

Cant see them touring next year.

Great to see some mid-big level acts coming to the west.

The promoters in Galway (we all know who he is) would fairly want to get the finger out and start getting some acts in. Too many bands or artists are skipping Galway now while they are playing Cork, Linerick, Waterford etc.

Call me a cynic but the Galway promoter is concentrating to much on internal Galway pub politics and keeping his Arts festival as the only event to get good level acts, while things like the Airport gigs are gone because they competed against, and bettered, his Arts festival.
