Ryan Tubridy returned the €150K not because he was legally obliged to do so, which he wasn't, but because he's an honourable man who said he would return the money if he wasn't required to do the promotion gigs for Renault the former LLS sponsors. He wasn't asked to do the gigs and delivered on what he said he would do.

This money was repaid despite the current RTE DG acknowledging that his decision to end negotiations on Tubridy's new contract most likely would mean RTE wouldn't get the money back that it had foolishly agreed to pay if Renault withdrew.

Yes, he paid it back - and so promptly too 🙄

He's got Meeeriam promoting her book this week. At least she's not one of his NK bedfello/ines.

I listened for an hour today, he interview Ethan Hawke and Gary Linklater.

It was a pretty standard film promotional interview. Save for 2 questions (and the Irish stuff)

He asked Hawke a question and rambled around the question (what I mean to say and do you think that this ) Hawke stopped him and just answered the question.

He then talked about filming the new film in Ireland, at the end of this question he says you never know who's going to be the star in on an Irish set it could be the hair and make up person…. silence on the other end of the line.

In fairness to Tubs I do think he could be doing something more if given space outside the music and it all feels repetitive. I think he needs a little more control on the music, but he needs to drop all of the Irish stuff.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

And he's starting a new standalone YouTube channel

And ironically working on something for TalkSport!

I dont think there would be a man who knows less about sport than Tubs.

Tubridy will host a new standalone YouTube channel, The Late Show, looking back at the the lives of the biggest stars in film, music, sport and television, with journalists and authors. The show will also be broadcast on Times Radio.

odd name for that, its a spin on both being dead 'The late actor…' and the Late Late show? https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/ryan-tubridy-announces-virgin-radio-exit-and-confirms-number-of-new-roles/a1605067598.html

"Tubridy will host a new standalone YouTube channel, The Late Show"

Now it's just getting sad. Do you think he'll do a toy show, too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,413 ✭✭✭GSF

all a bit sad really. You can see why he’s trying to get back into Rte again

What happened The Bookshelf podcast, sponsored by Easons, where Ryan pretended to have read books discussed by his guests? Lucky he is getting another opportunity. Bated breath.

New sponsor, Ballymore, ballymore you might have bought your first house with them and causing you to get your first mortgage maybe you will my your next house from them, Ballymore.

Strange that he's not going be presenting 10 to 13 on Q102, wonder how long the weekend show will last on Onic, will it be live?

The Late Show youtube channel! He things he is as big as the oscars!

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made the announcement on Wednesday, saying that it signed a multi-year deal that will give YouTube the exclusive global rights to the Oscars until 2033.

Youtube basically bought the broadcast rights to the Oscars. And it won't happen until 2029.

Whoever thought that was a good idea…

I've never really been sure if Ryan took the Virgin job thinking he was going to make a big splash in the UK and he'd have a BBC chat show by the summer of 2025, or if it was a safe haven to keep his name in the media and a paycheque coming in until the "unpleasantness" blew over.

I've always assumed more the latter. Virgin is a minnow in UK radio and it was unlikely he was going to go on to big things from there.

I still believe, unfortunately, that he'll eventually end up back in Montrose, but not until more time has passed. And maybe, just maybe, the arrogance will be toned down a little, knowing that, contrary to what RTÉ had been telling us for years, he wasn't a mega-talent who needed a massive salary because the BBC would snap him up if RTÉ didn't place him high on a pedestal.

Not strange he won't be doing 10 to 1 on Q102. He failed to deliver any new audience, in fact he may have cost the station audience as it was not good. Some of that is on him and some of that is on the management.

    It was a disaster.

This guy was the most famous presenter in this country for quite a few years and could not bring an audience to Q One Oh F**king Two.

What the hell was his reputation built on?

It was built on The Full Irish and being able to bring back an audience to 2FM, and that's about it after than he relied on RTÉ 1 and Radio 1 audiences.

I don't see how his weekend show will help the ONIC stations, did we ever get the JNLRs for his Sunday Show.

This Talksport thing is a cod, no?

I can't see him and Ally McCoist discussing Motherwell v St. Mirren or the latest transfer to West Brom.

The YouTube thing he will pull from his ass will be ALSO broadcast on Times Radio, probably very late on Saturday night.

This is a humiliation for the chap. He really should think about parting ways with NK Management.

when they said talk about Darts it wasn’t the one that gets you to Blackrock

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,646 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Now your saying he isn't looking to return to RTÉ or he won't return?

I'd be inclined to think he is looking to return.

Actually, the lack of detail on the TalkSport thing sounds like something the CEO may have said to get Tubridy and Noel Out of his office on the Friday before Christmas.

"Yeah, yeah, we'll see if there's any thing on TalkSport for you in the new year maybe. Now, if that'll be all fellas, I have a flight to catch."
