Very interested in the hoops they’ll jump through to get Woody back with the gang, because Toy Story 4’s entire premise and big emotional ending rested on him moving on 😅

That will not be a problem for Pixar's movers and shakers

Every Toy Story movie from 2010 to the end of eternity will be about the gang learning to say goodbye and moving on

Full trailer. Tech vs toys, so plenty of jokes for the adults, hopefully.

A few two star reviews out there, four from others.

Huge fan of the original and the second was very good. Loved the Darth Vader/Luke Skywalker parody.

Definitely have not seen the 4th because I kept hearing how sad it is but wondering now if I've even seen the the 3rd.

Might stick it on over the weekend.

Not sure I'll bother with the 5th one though.

It's good. On its own merits its an enjoyable and above average film.

But, definitely the weakest of the series.

I'll probably watch this now during the week. Do I expect much? No not really it's a franchise that has probably over stayed its welcome and the time from when the first came out till now is a completely different world.

Toy story 3 is a brilliant movie. Weird that you weren't even aware of it. Toy Story 4 is good as well, but the weakest of the lot.

I was aware of 3 but so many people telling me it's really sad put me off it. Its 4 I was not aware of.

Just back from seeing it, it's good, but not at the level of the first 3. Similar in quality to the fourth one I'd say.

I quite liked it. It's definitely not as good as the original three but it is still worth watching IMO. Definitely one of the better films I've seen this year. I quite liked all the Buzzes and there's a lot less of the stuff about learning to say goodbye this time which is nice.

I think it’s comfortably the worst in the series so far, but that’s not to say it’s ‘bad’. It just gives ‘this week on Toy Story’ vibes, in that it feels more episodic and scattershot while revisiting and recycling a lot of familiar beats.

There’s absolutely fun to be had. The multi-Buzz plot is basically shoved into the first half with no elegance whatsoever, but it does pay off with a series of worthy gags and reveals. Centering Jessie was smart, even if she basically reconfronts emotions she had reconciled back in Toy Story 2. It still has that mix of funny bits, sad bits and cute bits that defines a Toy Story film.

But yeah, they’re pushing against the limits too in a way that’s been obvious for a few sequels now but is pretty inescapable here. There’s no good reason for Woody to be here, and they should have been brave enough to leave him be (or leave him for a cameo). The supporting cast is so packed most of them are background characters now, though the new ones at least are well handled. The tech stuff drives the plot but also feels rather scattershot and half-realised in key respects. And while it has its big, teary emotional moments, IMO they fall well short of the sheer sentimental brute force of Toy Story 3 or the Toy Story 2 Jessie flashback.

I watched Hoppers a week or two ago, which is probably my favourite Pixar film in a half a decade or more - a genuinely imaginative, playfully unhinged and regularly laugh out loud funny film that may not be perfect, but reminded me of Pixar at their 2000s best more than anything else they’ve put out recently. Toy Story 5 does not reach those heights, and is much more standard modern Pixar sequel fare. At least it’s still perfectly fine, even if they run the increasing risk of missing that bar with each passing entry. It’s right at the bottom of the Toy Story top 5, even if the baseline quality here is still something Illumination or their ilk will never come close to.

I'll need to watch 4 again to decide which was better 4 or 5. For now I'd rank them 2,1,3,4/5. 2 for me is not only one of the best animated movies I've ever seen, it's one of the best movies of all genres.

Agree. It's wonderful. Pixar did some incredible work technically and artistically.

Enjoyable but the worst of the 5 main toy story for me. The story was a bit of a mess. Some decent laughs but not as many as the others. The new characters were fun I wouldn't have minded more Dr Nutcase though lol. 6.5/10

This is really spot on imo.

Hoppers wasn't perfect but I much preferred it. The sequence in the car genuinely had me in stitches.

Better than 4 but not a patch on the 1st 3…enjoyable enough all the same

I didn't know Hoppers was Pixar. I regret not going to see it now. It looked to memey at the time.

I don't. I hate those streaming services. Appreciate the recommendation though. If I find myself in an AirBnB with it, I'll certainly give it a go.
