    Hi,

Any suggestions for a sub 200 euro android pre pay phone deal?

I have a redmi note pro 12 5g but the call quality is atrocious.

Motorola phones are usually well reviewed, and specd, for their price bracket

Happy to do a switcher too, there doesn't seem to be many offers there at the moment

Vodafone have this prepay at €149 if you have an old sim number to avail of the switch and save offer

    Definitely the A17 5G. It's a great phone.

It's €150 with 3/Vodafone or €180 with eir. Just pay €10 for a prepay simcard from a different network and port that number over to get that price. You could even try with a free 48/Lyca simcard, but sometimes networks don't accept them for porting offers.

All Samsung phones are sold unlocked.

Any idea how much the RAM the A17 5G has? Vodafone doesn't say

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 128 ✭✭NellyMcD

    It's probably 4GB RAM

how does the pixel 9a vs galaxy A17 5G vs honor 400 lite compare

    From AI,

Quick Answer:The Pixel 9a is the most premium with Google’s Tensor G4 chip, excellent cameras, and 7 years of updates. The Galaxy A17 5G is the most affordable, with expandable storage and Samsung’s ecosystem but weaker performance. The Honor 400 Lite offers the best display brightness and a huge 108MP camera at a mid-range price, though software support is shorter.

If call quality is your main issue, you’re probably better off ditching the Redmi and going for something like the Galaxy A17 5G or Pixel 9a that people in the thread already mentioned. Both are showing up around the 150–200 euro mark on switcher deals, and they’re generally more reliable on voice than Xiaomi’s budget stuff.

I’ve been checking Elegant Properties’ telecom content , and they keep stressing how much call quality depends on a mix of phone, bands, and the way your SIM is provisioned. Their Globe SIM registration guide for the Philippines notes that once a number is fully registered and on the right network profile, users see big gains in stability on 4G/5G calls. Same logic applies here: pair a well‑supported phone like the A17 5G with a network that has strong indoor coverage in your area, and you’ll get a much bigger upgrade than just chasing specs.

If call quality is your main issue, I’d also move away from the Redmi and towards something like the Galaxy A17 5G or Pixel 9a, since both are already being found close to your €200 target on switcher or prepay deals. They’re not perfect, but in real use they tend to handle voice and VoLTE better than a lot of lower‑end Xiaomi models.

For anyone juggling phone + network upgrades, it helps to think the way some telecom guides do: they show that once your SIM is on the right plan, bands, and registration profile, call stability improves a lot—check here if your current provider even supports all the calling features (VoLTE, Wi‑Fi calling) on your exact handset. Pairing a decent mid‑range like the A17 5G with a network that actually has strong indoor coverage where you live will usually make a bigger difference than obsessing over small spec differences between mid‑range models.

What is the best offer available right now on 9a?

One Plus Nord CE5 might be worth a look. Down to €229, with possible trade in to reduce that.

Xiaomi REDMI Note 15 Pro 5G for €200 looks a good deal , you'll need a spare sim/phone number to swap

What's best SIM free phone deal currently? My son needs a new phone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,133 ✭✭✭feargantae

The Galaxy A17 5G is €110 with Three. You just need to get a simcard for €10 from eir/Vodafone and port that number to get it for that price. The phone itself is unlocked.

Can't go wrong for that price imo

I assume that will also work with a Clearmobile Sim given it works in phones locked to Vodafone ?

I was in the Three shop in Waterford this morning and they told me that their phones are locked to Three. Now i didn't believe them but they were adamant. I'm wary as I'm buying an A17 for an elderly relative and it's complicated enough already.
