He may well be back come January or maybe by next September? -

considering his upcoming nuptials I reckon he’ll be putting roots back down here in Ireland which will suit him far better - I wonder what sort of show will he be doing or what slot will he be offered? Or will it even be radio?

That they are even thinking about bringing him back is bonkers. Says it all about RTE if they are….

A bit like FF, they haven't changed a bit.

any wonder ppl spoiling their votes in this country!!!!!

is this why they are delaying announcement of a new presenter for Arena? Because Tubridy once read a book he’s qualified

if this happens Rick O Shea can feel aggrieved

If he is coming back that probably the sort of show he’d do- no-one wants to listen to his sanctimonious lectures (for the record I never did) - so things like talk radio are pretty much off limits - some sort of “arts” show would be harmless enough. He’ll probably do some TV docs with external content producers too- he’s earned bucket loads of money so he wouldn’t need much to keep him in a decent lifestyle

This whole respect for Sean Rocks delayed announcement of a new presenter doesn’t really ring true for me

I have always paid the TV licence even since this debacle unfolded a few years ago, but if they take him back I will never pay again

TBF Fianna Fail weren't stupid enough to run "president Bertie" to dig up old graves.

His return was inevitable when he paid back the Renault money. In his eyes he has a clean slate, and it must be said he was the only one of the whole debacle that came out of the PAC with an ounce of credibility.

It's truly is bonkers of RTE to bring him back. RTE hasn't fallen apart without him. They don't need him and shouldn't want him.

He won't get his "welcome home" appearance on the Late Late Show and if he does the jostling will be hilarious. I'd imagine it'll be akin to having Neil Armstrong and not asking him about the moon.

He won't be coming back to RTÉ. Period.

Ryan joins a long list of great Irish people who have made a great success of going into the media show business world in the UK. I am old enough to remember Eamonn Andrew, Val Doonican, and so many more.

    Communication was the greatest fatality

yes he is certainly a list in the U.K. now as he takes tourists around greasy spoon cafes in London for tips

He hasn't mentioned that in the last week. Seems like he wants it to be forgotten now. He spoke about it relentlessly for two days. I doubt that it will go ahead now.

I’ve got Ralph McTell Streets of London in my head now

Both of whom where in 20s when the left for the UK.

Val was largely music with TV special and he even made it across to the US.

While Eamonn was a Sport commentator (boxing) and then host of What's My Line? and spend most of his career between ITV and the BBC

Tubs went to the UK at 50* after a long career in RTÉ, he's been there 2 years and has yet to grab a show of any kind on BBC Radio let alone ITV.

You could argue times have changed etc, but you've start the comparison.

*correction Tubs was had just reach his 50s when he "decided" to leave for the UK.

I doubt he will take on that show. They couldn't be that stupid could they?

Likely a indo producer has lined him up for a documentary and hence the cup of tea with KB4.

A "summit" FFS, the head honchos in RTE shouldn't entertain this nonsense, if he wants a job go apply for it like everyone else, instead of seeking a meeting with the CEO like you are Kofi Annan, back to save us all.

And then throw his CV in the bin.

License revenue dropped after all the revelations, why would RTE remotivate absenters?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,177 ✭✭✭rightmove

another take tubs back article in the indo.

    the plebs must accept.

the spectator and times radio (neil andrews) have some good commentary on the bbc stuff. You could easily replace bbc with rte when they are talking institutional arrogance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,119 ✭✭✭RoTelly

License fee revenue is continuing to fall, we are now at a 30% evasion rate based on 2019 figures, much high considering population growth, and with the bailout by the government why would RTÉ be motivated to do anything?

Absenters is the new name for spongers?

Tubs return was inevitable, only a question of when. If we cast our minds back two years, it's likely he was going to stay on at RTE after the payments scandal, all Bakhurst needed from him was some contrition and maybe a little heartfelt speech on his first monday morning back about how he accepted "some" of the blame and was immediately returning the €150k. That was all he had to do….

But Tubs couldn't accept an iota of blame and decided to hold onto the cash for 2 years until the storm had blown over. That move clears the decks for him with RTE and Bakhurst and co can now offer their old buddy a cushy number at Montrose. I'm gonna guess autumn '26.

    Not going to happen.

It would be to rte what not refunding a tenent was to Jim Gavin, toxic.

it has to be somewhere where he won’t have to interact with the public or touch current affairs- Lyric or arts programming would be a suitable hideout
