Good to see the club getting up to speed with these kind of things. We were well behind on this front. They are what they are, but it's a sign that we're getting our act together.

Don't want to get all angry old man, it was a good podcast, but the part at approx 8 mins when JW says that both himself and Amorim felt that there was a lack of energy from the team for the Forest game really annoyed me. A lack of energy... when we're playing one game a week, is really worrying... Amorim should be ensuring there's no lack of energy, it calls into question the manager and the leaders within the team for me. I don't mind us playing poorly but a lack of energy can't be forgiven, especially given our fixture schedule.

might be talking the same thing but i read it as intensity more than energy. i don't think the players were tired, I think they 'just' weren't at it. As he said, similar to Brentford. And this is 100% something Amorim has called out - when he said he doesnt know what he is going to get from the team from one game to the next, was it after the Grimsby game?

Not saying Amorim bears no responsibility, but I think you have to look at the players more. I simply don't think Amorim is telling them to run harder vs Arsenal, or Brighton, than he told them vs Forest. Its been a problem with the United side for a long time and it is a mental/attitude problem. Which only becomes more of a worry when you consider Lammens, Yoro, MDL, Amad, Casemiro, Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko are all 'new' players relatively speaking when looking at the long term mental issues. Only Dalot, Bruno and Shaw were long term United players at the weekend and I generally wouldn't accuse Bruno of lacking intensity in his actions.

I did think Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko were poor, but then I also dont think it was a lack of effort. I have seen TOTD blame Cunha not closing down for the first goal but I think it was Dalot that was in the wrong position and Cunha got blamed cause he reacted to it so was visually the player getting there late. Can't remember the crossing situation on the second.

If Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko had been good, our ball control and opportunity execution would have been better. If Dalot had any clue where he was supposed to be either side of possession I think our defence and retention improves a lot.

So what result are we expecting tomorrow folks? I'm going for a 2 all draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,511 ✭✭✭BenK

We could, should and will win as I think Bucketybuck put it best before!

Seriously though, hard one to call and a win / loss / draw wouldn't surprise me. Spurs were impressive during the week but it was only Copenhagen and they were shocking last time out in the league against Chelsea.

5 losses and a draw in the last 6 against them. so a win for me based on the law of averages.

some people hate the below - i like it. spurs way overperforming so that wont last forever. they also had a game midweek, an advantage to us.

    scrappy 2-1 win for me.

    Spurs win imo.

They focus on crosses, are good at crosses, and we are bad at defending crosses.

I wonder if we will go for Mount in at 10 and Sesko benched a la Liverpool. I expect Maguire to come in for Yoro tbh, with MDL moving to RCB, though maybe he puts Mazraoui RCB with MDL staying CCB (and Shaw lcb)

I do think Mount comes in to try help Casemiro and Bruno in CM more.

Lammens, Shaw, Maguire, MDL, Dorgu, Mazraoui, Bruno, Casemiro, Mount, Mbeumo, Cunha.

Not the team I want him to pick, but a team I think he will pick.

Not confident of getting the win and at this point would take the draw but you never know. If we play as well as we can and actually take our chances we should win but for the most part we have been doing one of the two above in isolation thus far this season. Would be nice to go into the stupid fuckin poxy international break with a win rather than having to read lads stewing in here for the next 2 weeks.

It's simply impossible to predict a game like this, with teams like Spurs or United who are up and down from week to week.

I do think United will go with an unchanged starting 11, again.

Some would like to see Dalot dropped but I doubt he'll do that.

    Spurs win most likely.

We have an awful record against them recently; 5 defeats and 2 draws in the last 7. And our form is still not very good away from home tbh.

CM will be a worry tomorrow. I could see their midfield running all over us, particularly 2nd half when Cas will run out of gas.

Away from home it's hard to predict with United. Bring Mount in for Sesko let Spurs have more of the ball with the onus on them to break us down and hurt them on the counter.

I hope we at least try press them high and see how it goes, Chelsea absolutely nullified them the last game and should have beat them by 3 or 4.

We don't quite have the midfield Chelsea do but would like to see it tried given spurs midfield is so poor at ball progression.

Our press has been hit and miss this season but we do have to keep trying to work on it and get it right

Depends which United or Spurs team show up. Last week against Chelsea Spurs were beyond awful I don't think they registered a shot on target all game. They were a different team midweek.

United have had such a poor run against Spurs we are well overdue a win. 3 points here puts us second until at least Chelsea play Wolves at 8pm- Similarly a win puts Spurs second for a few hours.

A game like this is very hard to predict. We have kept only one clean sheet all season and hard to see a second one tomorrow- United well overdue a day where we finish good chances and score 3 or 4- Hard to see either happening tomorrow!

I'll say we will win 2-1 just be the optimist!

Honestly, I was impressed by it. Lets face it, the vibe for "positive club media" would be very different if the team was not on 10 points from the last 12 available, including a win at Anfield. That aside, it was good to see some access to a decision maker like Wilcox and get some reinforcement that he is competent.

Sure, the in-house club media will not be attacking their boss. But most "independent" journalists will be just as compromised in protecting their sources. If the independent journalist doesn't follow orders, they lose their access, lose their job. No real difference to in-house media not trouncing their boss. Ferguson used to inspire that sort of fear in media - even when questions were fair and honest. We have lost that. And maybe it will never come back.

The best message I saw on the YT comments was the club needs to start telling its own story. 100% right in my view.

No silly mistakes at the back and I think we win. This is a different utd side (much better imo) than they've played from the last 6 games vs.

Cas is in great form along with Bruno. Front 3 are playing very well together imo with still room for improvement.

Dalot playing scares me as he switches off far to often amd I think they'll try to exploit him.

Their injury list is pretty big and their home record is pretty bad. Think its 4 of the last 15 ganes they've won there (open to correction, thought i heard it on the radio)

2-0 win for us with a booing from the home crowd 😆

Hmm it's like in the days past when 'expectation' decide who wins the award rather than ability. It's such a shock Ruben won three games in a row that they have to give him the award over Arteta who everyone expects to win every game.

Used to happen a lot with Ferguson too, if he had the same record as another manager usually the other manager got it.

    Meaningless award really.

YeahI think it's a good time to play Spurs away. They've been poor at home and quite a bit of pressure and expectation on them.

But then we've been absolute garbage in all away games this season bar one.

If we go back to hoofing it up the field I think we'll probably win but if we try to play out we'll struggle.

Would like to see the team we put out against Liverpool for this game.

6 pointer today that I think we’ll win.

Gut feeling is we’ll catch them lovely on the counter and hopefully Cunha will improve on last week and pull some serious strings and make them pay.

Looking forward to it - They’ll be more worried about us, that’s for sure

It’s a bit strange that there is no United shop in Dublin similar to the Liverpool one in the Ilac. You’d imagine the demand would be there.

They've tried it before, I think there was one on D'olier Street and one in Arnotts years ago. They don't seem to last.

Dalot appears to be our long throw taker so doubt he gets dropped.
