I can tell you unequivocally that NC is nowhere near representative of the political demographics at the state level. It's one of the most aggressively gerrymandered State governments in the country, and correspondingly, incredibly corrupt.

But don’t you know how easy it is to vote? Easiest thing in the world. Heck, just this week there were more voting machines than people voting in Manic’s local voting center…no lines (queues). Who cares about the bomb threats and all that kerfuffle in NY, it’s a communist hellhole anyway. Yeehaw

The piece of shite lies like he breathes.

Astonishing how some people just cannot see through him.

Shows you just how fecked up the nation as a whole is, doesn’t it, if the difference in percentage of votes gained compared to the percentage of seats held in North Carolina is closer than almost every other state, despite it being one of the most gerrymandered states out there.

I’m not ignoring that that 2 percent spread (as opposed to 35% in Hawaii) are the difference between being in the majority vs minority, but at the other end of the scale, you get supermajorities where they are not representative either, and the minority party just gets run roughshod.

In any case to get back to the original point, at the federal elections level, 10-4/52% simply isn’t an outlier, and its not an outlier for either party.

Speaking of fecked, the Gerrymandering in Texas was done by the State Legislature.

Prop 50 in California, was put directly to the voters. They actually made an emphatic choice.

Big difference, but that's GOP states, keep choices (something they yammer on about) from the voters, especially on important issues.

Has it ever been revealed that this happened because some Trump nitwit didn’t know how to properly Google for the Philadelphia Four-Seasons hotel? Even without evidence I‘m pretty damned sure that’s what happened with the «Best People»

Unfortunately that would mean he lived his entire life in wealth and comfort without facing a single consequence of all the terrible stuff hes done down the years. It also means we get Vance for a period who is an extremely dangerous character.

I'd rather see Trump neutered by the midterms and having to sit there for 2years with very little power, facing jailtime for him and every single one of his family. Living out his days knowing that his beloved Ivanka is going to prison along with the other dweebs.

Yes, it was clearly stated right from the start. Its one of those many, Trump associated, situations that is so far beyond stupid that its hard to comprehend. Funny though.

Just announced that Trump has done another TACO - exempting Hungary from the US oil sanctions for a year. This ‘ for a year’ , in a Trump context means nothing because Trump is quite capable , at any time , immediately revoking it or give Hungary two years instead of one.

    POSSIBLE reasons for his TACO

    (1) HE just like ‘helping friends’ of like mind and Victor publicly supports him

    (2) Opportunity to give the EU a ‘kick in the teeth’/ weaken its power - no matter the consequences

    (3) another ‘bit of assistance’ to Putin in an indirect way

    (4) will help ORBAN in getting back in during next years elections

How does that even work? Hungary is part of the EU, so tariffs are applied across the EU.

Humgary, as part of the EU, cannot make its own trade deals.

He doesn't understand that. Angela Merkel even told him face-to-face that deals with individual EU member states are impossible. One has to deal with the EU.

Look at him. He gets stupider by the day.

And how does oil or gas get to Hungary without transiting through an EU member or Ukraine who would be shooting themselves in the foot by letting it transit. Trump just looks like a bigger ass and Orban pisśes off Europe more for no gain.

It was seen as likely since Trump announced the new sanction. He has given favoured nation status to some countries and kept them there in mind as extra special over those on the official sanctions watch list. The EU doesn't help the argument by letting some other members states buy in Russian oil and gas in contravention of the EU sanction it declared on Russia.

On the ongoing row over the shutdown, it was interesting to see how RTE News reported that The Democrats had caused the loss of the latest vote in the US senate to end the lockdown by voting down the Republican move to end it while on CNN it was reported in exactly the opposite way, the Republicans voting down the move by the Democrats to end the lockdown.

Zack Bornstein said: I could write jokes for 800 years and I'd never think of something funnier than Trump booking the Four Seasons for his big presser, and it turning out to be the Four Seasons Total Landscaping parking lot between a dildo store and a crematorium.

Always remember that orban is like putin a revanchist. His nationalism wants to regain Hungarian territory in Romania, which runs counter to the whole point of a voluntary union and EU citizenship.

With or without Putin or Trump Hungarian revanchism was already on a collision course with the union.

Those borders were settled at Versailles in the aftermath of the First World War. He can't seriously think that he'll be recovering that territory from Romania now. It sounds more like Mussolini's pretence of restoring the Roman Empire to me, a useful symbol.

Is it true that The Shutdown could be averted by the republican majority taking a different route, like Boris & co, did at various time to run around the democratically elected parliament.

Or is as some suggest the shutdown is the coup ?

Be interesting to see who else comes out of the woodwork to illegally fund "critical" parts of the government.

I think it originates from the late 19th century France where General Boulangers populist supporters called him "General Revanche", the man who would regain Alsace-Lorraine which had been lost to Germany in the Franco-Prussian War in 1870-1.

He's already gave ethnic Hungarians in Romania a right to vote in Hungarian elections since 2018, which goes far beyond the dual citizenship status of the Belfast Agreement.

Ironically in a recent election in Romania it was votes from these Hungarian areas of Romania that were decisive in defeating a hard right candidate.

And Orban endorsed the Romanian nationalist AUR candidate, despite its history of antagonising ethnic Hungarians. Ultranationalist parties are increasingly networking with their counterparts internationally. Some Far Left parties are also pro Russian.

Sure but it doesn't equate to a serious attempt at revanchism.

All the absolutely despicable people in this administration must laugh their heads off at his stupidity. All his nonsense and bluster gives them the perfect cover to implement their disgusting racist agenda. It couldn't have worked out better for them.

This is wonderful, coming from Trump's press secretary, who wouldn't recognise the truth if it came up to her and shook hands:

    https://www.theguardian.com/media/2025/nov/08/bbc-100-fake-news-says-donald-trumps-press-secretary

Much as I get annoyed with the BBC at times, this restores my faith in them.

It would explain his confidence in defying the security of the bloc at every turn. His voter base is not urban but rural with a lot of agrarian land concerns which he can easily manipulate.

Ironically the Hungarian communities in Romania tend to be more urbane, like their urban counterparts in Hungary who vote against Orban. This probably contributed to their recent vote against a right wing candidate.

They also know that Romania is more likely to adopt the Euro compared to the economic isolationist path Orban is taking Hungary down.
