« one of the more realistic commentators » ~> We already showed this « commentator » is just lying 90% of the time. Reading the titles of his videos for the last few years, you would think Russia would be in Galway by now. He sees collapse everywhere on the front for Ukraine.

He reminds me of someone posting on this tread with similar incorrect information that they back up with Russia ministry of defence’s communications.

An example? Video from 10 dec 23 (almost 2 years ago: « Dire Situation As Russia Makes LARGE Gains - Ukraine War Map Analysis & News Update »

No need to watch the video. You would get more realistic information watching Jurassic Park.

Digging deep in the old Kremlin-backed influence channels are we? Very industrious. Here’s the part where I negate your efforts by pointing out to all of the readers and lurkers that the Russians bomb children in the homes and schools and that you still haven’t addressed that. Which of course betrays a certain… *bias*

Really missing the old Istanbul reports aren’t we? If only there were some body transfer skuttle to go with them too. Not to worry comrade…the Motherland will eventually provide…we won’t believe any of it…but she’ll provide…

His channel was more centred and balanced until his brain cancer became more of an issue. Now its just a place for African and Russian bots to vent how they are winning against NATO. I wonder how much funding is coming from Russian sources.

Reports that Ukraine is trying to split the Northern and Southern Russian forces in Pokrovsk. They have driven a wedge between them though not yet complete. 60% of Pokrovsk is controlled by Russia. Some reports Krylo Budanov is there directing the assault. Also reports they have blocked Russian advances north of Pokrovsk. This keeps a vital supply line open.

Budanov had previously stated he'd a plan and it's success, failure and responsibility would lay with him. This could be it.

He's a very clever fcuker, the Russians knowing he's on the ground would definitely worry them.

It's disappointing Russians air capability has expanded. Ukraine need better means to destroy Russia's jets. Hopefully a spiderweb 2.0 is planned to focus on their jets. The new fabs with a 200km range will become a problem.

Denis Davyov says situation going badly for Ukraine in Pokrovsk, which Russia in control of 80% of the town and all but one of the exits from it. Myronohrad, east of Pokrovsk, risks being cut off if Pokrovsk is. He complains that there are still remnants of the Soviet way of fighting war in the Ukrainian army and that there needs to be reform.

Says Ukraine has a better chance in Kupiansk. But even there, Russia has a bridgehead over the Oskil river that divides Kupiansk.

What’s interesting is that Russia have taken control over whatever percentage of ukraine and have literally done **** all in rebuilding the parts they control for “their” citizens.

Mariupol has been in their hands since 2022 and the city is still in ruins practically.

Begs the question, how the **** are they winning elections there 😂 I’d have thought people would be looking forward to some new fancy apartments, roads etc

I just want to point out that this guy is a bit of a drama queen, either he's extremely worried or elated. He doesn't seem to have any setting in between those two. He's probably one of the least reliable pro-Ukrainian youtube channels (imo of course).

Russia doesn't control 80% of Pokrovsk, what is happening though is that there is fighting going on in large parts of the city where it's unclear who controls it, the so-called grey zone. If Russia establishes control over those they do control 80% or more, but that's far from certain. By all accounts those Ukrainian hunting parties are having great success rooting out Russian sabotage and infiltration units, but they are vastly outnumbered so likely it's just a matter of time before they are forced to pull out.

    That's funny… I needed a good chuckle this morning.

Its very easy to vote for the right candidate when there's a soldier with a gun next to you in the polling booth, showing you which is the 'right' candidate…… (and in most cases probably the only candidate…) and if you vote for the right candidate like a good Russian, you might even get to vote for him again and again… all in the same election.

    Untitled Image

Anything held in Russia or indeed occupied Ukraine that claims to be an 'election' is nothing more than a sham attempt to legitimise themselves to the wider world, and to try and justify their illegal invasion of a sovereign country.

This all looks totally fine right??

I used to subscribe as his early coverage of the war was great but it deteriorated heavily. It's a shame as he seemed like a good guy and, unlike many, had real military experience and had actually been pretty close to the front-lines in Ukraine.

Looks like it's fallen? A fair few Ukrainian troops have been trapped and surrendered in this area too. Begs the question, should an orderly retreat have been conducted a few weeks ago?

Other pro Ukrainian sources still claiming it's not over. Time will ultimately tell.

Bild newspaper painting a pretty grim picture of what is unfolding in Pokrovsk. Probably they have been bought off by the Kremlin by now, same as everyone else who does not paint the fairytale view of the reality on the battlefield.

Also with these maps, when you zoom out a bit it certainly does not portray the same picture that some suggest. Terrible the lack of foresight these commanders have considering people were warning about this unfolding months ago, just as they were warning dozens of times in the past.

What is the big deal about saving lives of soldiers, especially when they have killed 120K Orcs and probably wounded half a million or so in defending the place. At least Kupyansk is saved now it seems, seen as only 60 Russians are left now.

I have to admit i don't believe a word coming out from the pro-Ukrainian side in terms of their statements about Pokrovsk the past week. We've all since this play out before with the other fortress cities in previous years. My fear is that, yet again, Ukrainian soldiers' are being lives wasted holding on to a hopeless situation due to political optics

Those troops should have gotten the green light to pull out weeks ago and form the next defensive lines. They did their duty, and this is the reward they get?

Reports now suggesting they're going to pour reinforcements in here to not let it fall yet. Not sure if this is wise if Ukraine are already stretched.

The logic seems to be this city will serve as a platform for Russia to push deep into Dnipro oblast if it falls.

We're all dying for some positive news. This could be it. From your resident more nuanced version of Brickster. Isn't that right @Avatar in the Post

The video features fresh footage from Povtrosk.

I hope the city is reduced to ruble like Vovchansk was as I said before. Which incidentally Russia is advancing here this week for the first time in months.

This could be why Ukraine is willing to sacrifice reserves to continue this battle. Russia are taking heavy losses especially armour to continue the advance.

Michael Clarke made similar observations re. Bakhmut - why don't they retreat? He said the Ukrainian argument was 'If we don't fight them here, where will we fight them?'

It looks like history is starting up again.

Pokrovsk is obviously a bit of a mess. However, Ukraine has useful forces north of Myrnohrad which cutoff the Russian divisions there. Those pockets are now more or less cleared out, so those forces could likely maintain a corridor on the Eastern side for an orderly Ukrainian withdrawal in due course.

Putin made an eejit of himself by inviting journalists to come and see Pokrovsk, it suits Ukraine to stay long enough to make it obvious that he was bullshitting. Because Putin made excessive claims the Russians are losing a lot of man and materiel to try and bring about this about.

Ukrainian soldiers' are being lives wasted

    How many?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,832 ✭✭✭✭Jelle1880

It's a valid point. If any time a city gets attacked and you retreat, when do you actually fight back ?

Do you keep withdrawing when things get bad ? By all accounts the toll Russians have taken to try and capture Pokrovsk has been immense, if Ukraine believe they can inflict more hurt on them then I am sure they will do so.

As someone said years back "Ukrainians trade land for time, while Russians trade soldiers for land".

I understand that, often it's best to pull back to save lives and fight another day. But I also don't blame Ukraine for doing what they can to try and keep Pokrovsk as long as possible.

I doubt they'll let their guys get surrounded entirely, as seen by the actions near Myrnograd and will pull out in time if it does turn out they can't hold the city.

edit: Looks like some Russians will have to ration their ammo again soon ;) An ammo depot was blown up in Donetsk
