I'm still getting over the fact Communism has already been around for a thousand years.

Republican candidate has no chance. He'd just be backing a loser.

The majority of the corporate donors to President Donald Trump’s

ballroom are facing or have recently faced federal enforcement actions, according to a report by a watchdog group.

Why does this not surprise me?

A billionaire isn't going to back a socialist.

looking at an interview with Trump last night and he said that the UKr Rauvwar will be brought to a ‘ conclusion’ in a few months time. He also referred to doing business with Russia, it has a lot of wealth, etc, etc, etc,

So if NY elects a ‘communist ‘mayor and Trump has NO INTEREST in Assisting in its development and denying it its rightful funds from the Federal Exchequer then how does he justify all the active/ passive assistance that he has showered Putin - a communist running a communist country including the seeking out of business partnerships . Unless Putin has recently denounced that he is no longer a communist and that he was democratically elected president!!!!!!!

Agreed, but not sure what your point is… ? Nobody is expecting him to back Mamdani.

They have a literal Republican running, yet he chooses to endorse Cuomo over him. That's weird.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,151 ✭✭✭eightieschewbaccy

Sliwa is a bit of a comedy candidate so the prospect of him getting elected is pretty much nil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,805 ✭✭✭✭Jelle1880

Hundreds of Republican candidates across the country are joke candidates, yet they often get endorsed.

I wonder if it's because Sliwa isn't your typical grifting MAGA weirdo.

Its weird Trump coming out now to back Cuomo. Early voting had closed at this point with the numbers voting something like 70% of the total mayoral vote last time round.

If Mamdani wins as expected, Trump has another endorsement fail on his record, so why do it as he did?

A person identifying as Rachel Hurley posted this on Facebook. Anyone have any knowledge if Rachel's post on the court move is correct in supposing the court may have been presented with something which could throw out the original panel's OK on the deployment of the Gd in Portland? The court "publication" is a few days old now.

BREAKING: The full bench of the 9th circuit has agreed to take up the Portland National Guard case and vacated the panel decision that had blessed Trump’s deployment.

Trump will only back a candidate in his own party if they are considered a shoo in. His ego will not allow him to be associated with a losing candidate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,442 ✭✭✭✭Leroy42

He doesn't care who wins as such, he is merely setting himself up to defund NYC and to stop the Dems from endorsing Mamdani at anything higher than the Mayoral level.

It also has the added benefit of getting his name front and centre again, when the story should be all about the election, suddenly its back to talking about Trump.

I heard a, I thought anyway, very good theory on why all the talk of Trump running again. Its not about him running again, its all about stopping the usual 'dead duck' POTUS that all 2nd termers get once the mid-terms happen. All the talk moves to the potential successors and with that even the foreign governments stop talking to the POTUS and focus on the potential new POTUS. Also, he needs to keep his own party in line and that can only come if they believe that he could continue as POTUS and therefore they cannot afford to cross him

See the UFC is involved in a developing betting controversy.

When that emerged in the NBA recently it was suggested the FBI had gone after them because of supposed anti-Trump sentiment within the league.

That's definitely not something that could be said about the UFC. Will be interesting to see how it develops, there's a suggestion that the organization had been warned about the fight at the weekend and warned they should pull it but they didnt and that could suggest complicity in match fixing on their part.

Critics were right about Merrick Garland | Opinion

"When the end comes, there must be a purge of the government. The guilty must be hunted down like the J6 insurrectionists were. Reforms must be made – abolishing ICE or packing the US Supreme Court, for example – to make sure no traitor is again able to hijack the republic. That’s a very tall order made much taller by the fact that rightwing propaganda will continue to work in the shadows if the impartial administrators of justice continue to pretend it doesn’t exist."

Merrick Garland took far too long looking over his shoulder and trying to be whiter than white, Trump kept plugging away regardless and got to the line first.

Gateway for Jack Smith to get involved and go after Trump with haste was slowed down and Smith was left pushing a snowball uphill and the sun was ot.

Let's hope the end does come and it all gets reversed with many joining the Trump family in prison as the Govt confiscates its and many others' wealth in favour of the deprived and reset the USA democracy.

Quie apart from this being a little disrespectful, consider the following from the CNN report on Cheney's death

. In an ad for his daughter’s unsuccessful campaign to fight off a pro-Trump candidate’s primary challenge in 2022, Dick Cheney – who was, by then, rarely seen in public – looked directly into the camera from under a wide brimmed cowboy hat and delivered an extraordinary direct message.

“In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Cheney said.

“He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election, and he lost big. I know it. He knows it, and deep down, I think most Republicans know.”

If only more Republicans showed just a little courage…..

Holding out to the last minute hoping he could force or buy Sliwa to pull out, and when that failed, desperation perhaps ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,965 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

I would not have had much time for him as Bush Jnr. Vice President. A war monger during that period imo. but at least he did point out to the American public the dangers of electing Trump as President.

Don't know, as someone else said, his post didn't read like something he wrote so there's some ulterior motive behind it.

Maybe it was written for him by someone who genuinely thinks there is a chance Cuomo wins and is trying to bring that about, or maybe it's to provide some cover so that if Mamdani does win, Trump can say that he was always against him.

I'm not sure, Trump never really worried about needing cover, he just lies as and when the moment a lie is required, but he did have quite a record in term 1 of endorsing people who lost so I was wondering why he now endorsed someone likely to lose. As soon as his endorsements lost before, he tried to distance himself from them so I found it curious that he opened himself up to being associated with Cuomo in this way.

The other thing it does, although I haven't seen anyone mention it is that is shows Trump himself as being a RINO of sorts (which a lot of us would have said about him anyway) but for the sitting President to endorse a former Democrat in a race where there is a Republican candidate is quite a look.

I'd still view Cheney to represent a pretty terrible point in US history. This included wars, introducing Guantanamo Bay and things like the patriots act. While I don't disagree with his view on Trump, that doesn't transform him into a decent guy.

He made a fortune out of Haliburton, he was chairman of Halliburton Company from 1995 to 2000 and received stock options from Halliburton. In the run-up to the Iraq War, Halliburton was awarded a $7 billion contract for which only Halliburton was allowed to bid.

Another War Criminal in my opinion regardless of his " Road to Damascus " moment afterwards.

F*ck that. Seriously. Cheney did more than anyone to bring about the humanitarian catastrophe that was the Iraq War and we're supposed to be impressed because he warned about Trump when there was no consequences to him for doing so? He did more than most to lay the foundations for MAGA and all for profit.

Easily one of the worst human beings of the past century IMO.

    Disrespectful?

Dick Cheney was a war mongering piece of shit with the blood of thousands on his hands in a war based on lies.

Speaking up about Trump isn't going to erase that.

Trump isn’t very popular in New York, so this should backfire nicely. Can’t wait to see him and his cronies implode when a Muslim Communist, Socials radical left Antifa rapper wins the election.

The Beeb have a good article on how Trump has changed/is changing the White House, worth a look, even for the pictures.

This could work one of two ways. It could cause some Cuomo voters to flip to Mamdani. Or it could cause Sliwa voters to switch to Cuomo.

Failure to support your own party candidate, who has been free of scandal, shows that even loyalty wont necessarily keep you in Trumps good graces.

The threat to withhold funds might or might not intimidate NY voters. NY is a net contributor to the US federal budget.

Jewish Democratic voters are split 50:50 between Mamdani and Cuomo I think. The older ones tend to be more Israel-centric.

That is the one thing I did find curious even if back Cuomo was an act of desperation. That he back a Democrat of such shady character that his MAGA crowd love to point fingers at over his own parties candidate. But then losing gracefully is not a characteristic that could under any stretch of the imagination be associated with Trump.
