There’s one person we haven’t heard from in the second trial - his room mate that night.
Even if his testimony was that he heard nothing, I’m more interested in the following day - what was discussed around the previous evening? How did Crosbie appear? How was he behaving?
Did he mention anything about the previous night?

Dublin firefighter Terence Crosbie, who was jailed last week for raping a woman in a Boston hotel, was transferred to Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center, a supermax prison home to notorious incidents.

yeah there’s even a class action lawsuit paying out millions to current and former inmates due to brutality of the guards - not a pleasant place to do time

He's white Irish, the guards will be grand to him.

Doubt it. White Irish men have been beaten and even killed there in past.

No sympathy for priest that was killed there years ago for his abuse.

He be in for rough ride

From my own experience, (not in prison) but with dealing with law enforcement in the Boston area, they are much more lenient to white Irish than they are to Hispanic or African Americans.

Boston is often regarded as one of the the most racist cities in the US, if not the most racist.

I’m aware of that. If the Gofundme fails per your wishes then his wife will surely be liable for those fees. He’s already in prison so it won’t make much difference to him but it will to his wife and that will have a knock on effect on his kids. His wife and kids are innocent

wonder what the appeal is for, the sentence or the conviction ?

if it’s the sentence , I don’t see the logic. He’s hardly coming back to Ireland to start earning and playing happy families. He is a convicted rapist and personally I wouldn’t be fussed in more expense to see me do 8 years or 5 in prison

If they are appealing the conviction, I can understand that.

I'd imagine the conviction. Though, similar to your point on the logic in appealing the sentence, I think it'll be a futile exercise in appealing the conviction too.

In some ways he's had two trials to prove his innocence already, hard to see what could come to light during an appeal which will overturn the conviction. I imagine that the financial strain will be huge too. I know the family used donations from a GoFundMe for representation for the second trial, but you'd imagine a similar volume of donations to fight an appeal won't be as forthcoming.

Has to be the conviction as the sentence wasnt that bad at all for him. 7 minimum with a year and a half served already. Hes very lucky its not longer. If he does appeal the conviction or the sentence, he could **** himself more. Im assuming american judges have the ability to increase sentences there like here and if I was him, id cut my losses at this stage. Unless some clear dna evidence or witness comes forward contradicting the accusers claims, he should let it go. Again, it feels like he's trying to save face in front of his family and wife.

“Again, it feels like he's trying to save face in front of his family and wife.”

I don’t see anything that’s appealable - there didn’t seem to be contested evidence submitted or anything like that - someone made an accusation- evidence was compiled and presented - verdict was guilty - 2 trials - certainly enough time to get story and presentation of defence correct. There was no reasonable doubt. Even if his questions to the police around the allegation were some sort of police trickery gotcha, his claims of breakfast time self gratification couldn’t happen as he wasn’t checked in and then there’s that early flight back before paddy’s day.

And that’s before the testimony of the victim herself which was pretty articulate and clear

Hard to maintain your innocence with all of that but if it gets him through next number of years….

It's pretty simple. Don't appeal. No legal fees then. If he doesn't care for his family in respect of a financial burden, then why should you?

He brutally raped a sleeping woman, time to get the head down and do the time and stop playing the victim.

That's certainly applicable, if the legal fees in question only relate to fees to fund an appeal.

Without knowing any exact arrangements with his legal team, there could potentially still be fees owed for the defence team used in the second trial, which is what the family had initially set-up their GoFundMe page to help out with.

It will be hard a sell to get me to feel sorry for a rapist and their outstanding or future legal fees to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 667 ✭✭✭Pete Moss

I'm certainly not trying to sell sympathy, or putting out the begging bowl for his legal fees.

I'm clarifying that the GoFundMe may not extend to the appeal, as you had posted "It's pretty simple. Don't appeal. No legal fees then."

The only go fund me I heard about was one that was yanked initially at 10 grand without explanation.

Either way gofundme's for rapists is beyond crass.

there was another one that was set up and did very well , pretty sure around 32k the last I saw it

They’re not legally “rapists” before conviction - they have the presumption of innocence under the eyes of the law - a concept you don’t appear to be familiar with

He knew he was a rapist at the exact time he brutally raped a sleeping young woman.

If money is a problem he should have pled guilty and spared the expense.

He didn’t set up the Gofundme - obviously his wife family and friends wanted to support him at the time- the money would be used for legal fees as well as travel by the wife to the trial - maybe they regret it now, maybe they don’t - who know- go fund me’s are regularly set up for people on trial abroad by their families - i guess your friends and loved ones won’t be looking to you if they’re ever in such difficulty -you’ll be spending your time name calling them before they’re convicted in a court of law

Again, the sympathy for this brutal rapist is bizarre.

I’ve never posted any “sympathy” for the person in question - your posts are deliberately designed to create antagonism where there’s no need for it

    - a family wished their husband and father home from a terrible ordeal in their eyes- it happens every week on Gofundme -regardless of ultimate innocence or guilt of the person in question after trial , blaming innocent people for setting up a Gofundme - when the person is classed as innocent is really quite pathetic.

I’ve had enough of your antagonistic posts - you just argue for the sake of it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,959 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

You're upset because he was called a rapist. He became a literal rapist when he raped that young woman, that is a fact. He became a convicted rapist at trial.

The only "terrible ordeal" here is the young woman who was brutally raped as she slept.

Again it's a hard sell trying to justify crowd funding for rapists.

He chose to go to trial, which is his right. Which retraumatised the victim and placed his family with a financial burden plus it dragged the whole ordeal out for both the victim and his wife. Further abuse of women, which is hardly a surprise.

But only here would people have a problem with someone suggesting I hope the gofundme doesn't raise any money.

Like I said it is bizarre.
