This dropped on Gamepass yesterday. I played part 1 a couple of years ago when it appeared on PS+ and absolutely loved it so was excited for this. As expected, it looks stunning. Ive only done the introductory section but enjoying it alot. The dialogue and options is snappy, the build options challenging but accessible and the combat is good albeit quite unforgiving, even on normal. I can see myself putting alot of time into this as I love and RPG but couldnt get into Starfield at all, played it for around 10 hours and just found it too unweildy.

I got the premium version and have been playing the last few days. Apparently it starts slow but I’m really enjoying it so far about 6 hours in. On the face of it everything seems better than the original and I’m getting a New Vegas vibe in the first few hours, so all positive.

I'm enjoying it. It's quite difficult, I rarely have enough perks for missions and my weapons are quite lame. I've also run out of ammo on one of them and it can't be found anywhere or crafted.

I love the flaw system, but to be honest I picked a couple that have ended up making the game even more difficult for me!

Got another couple of hours in this morning on the first planet. Its very much a case of making you revisit places once you've leveled up a bit.

About 7 hours in, thoroughly enjoying it. Up to level 8 and things start to open up in terms of skills and perks. The flaw mechanism is devilishly fiendish and I've added 2 already as the benefits for how I want to play outweigh the potential negatives.

I'm off the first planet after I completed the main story quests and whatever side quests I could find. It's fun, but comparing this to Mass Effect is honestly insulting - one of the first reviews did that. Some of the side quests will ignore what happened, for example in one after the station crashed they still mentioned what is currently happening on that station and that their work is needed for that station - which now was smoldering not too far away.

And on PC the performance is what we now expect from UE5 games - shite. There is absolutely no reason for a game that looks like that to run so slow and depend on DLSS.

So far, 7/10. Fun, but not worth of full price, good enough for gamepass.

Knocking the game because a reviewer compared it to Mass Effect doesn’t really hold up. That’s the reviewer’s opinion, not Obsidian’s promise.

Comparisons are inevitable, both are sci-fi RPGs with dialogue choices that create major story arcs and of course the companions system.

Personally, I just skip reviews and dive straight in. This is the beauty of Game Pass, if I don't like it then no loss. I'm also not swayed by reviewers opinions.

Yes, I'm level 8 now too and its all starting to gel. I've got the hang of the flaws I chose, which were originally holding me back a bit until I mastered them. It really adds a fantastic dynamic to the game.

@reaction238 I was knocking the review, not the game. To the game I gave it's fair chance, I just said that it's nowhere near that level.

They promised Outer Worlds 2, that's what we got.

Also, is anyone else getting a Foundation/psychohistory vibe from the Order?

Think I have 5 or 6 now. I seem to be at a point where I cannot decline them and whatever gets thrown at me i have to accept. Am currently L12 and about quarter way through the second world, around 13 hours total played.

    Edit

Just googled, its because i accepted a particular flaw. Meh, i can live with it.

I was offered that flaw and declined. It will certainly make things interesting for you!

Finding this quite mediocre, just like the first one. Quests are terrible, main story is "what was it that we were doing again?" , combat is ok, I don't think it looks great graphically at all. All the side characters are just cardboards. I do like the radio stations, especially the long ad songs on the space Amazon radio. And some of the humour is pretty funny. After about 12 hours this is in the 6 or 7 out of 10 territory for me.

Without spoling, early on there was a choice of which settlement to favour.. I first chose the wrong one, because I forgot what the settlements were called. Had to reload the save and choose the option that was worse for a place in Mayo.

Yes there's some earworms on those wireless stations.

You can't blame the game if you're not paying attention, so far for all significant choices I had enough information to decide knowingly. For example on the first planet it was clear that the settlement wasn't doing well and getting those parts for them only prolonged the inevitable. They were all staying simply because of their misplaced loyalty and indoctrination. Talking to them and your companions made the choice easy. And later, when I couldn't divert the station, it was again clear it was the right choice.

Crabwich, crabwich, you want to eat!

I've a flaw that is really spoiling the game for me. I won't spoil what it is, but it means I never have enough skill points for anything. I'm getting through the game on the vanilla choices. I love the flaw system, such a unique dynamic and I do have other cool flaws that once you get the knack for them actually give you bonuses. But this one in particular, it's really spoiling the enjoyment for me. What use is an RPG with all your choices blocked? No fun, that's what!

I was half tempted to do a run where I just accept all flaws/bonuses, but think I've talked myself out of that, especially for a first playthrough. I tend to struggle a bit with RPGs like this anyway so potentially hampering myself from the start is probably not the way to go.
