If someone else's dog bites your dog what rights does one have?

So my dog a Yorkshire Terrier was having his stroll around the estate this evening as he does most days when my neighbour came around from the green with his bigger dog no idea of the breed and my dog seen him and ran towards him. He is a fast runner but would not harm a fly. He just thinks he is bigger than he is like all small dogs. Anyway he went from the front to the back of the neighbours dog then the neighbours dog swong around and bit him. There was a lot if blood and my dog also made a noise as if in pain.

Its only superficial thankfully. It has cost Me €85 though. So who is in the wrong and who in the right here. What do you think my chances of getting my neighbour to reimburse me what I had to pay the vet are?

You're at fault. 100%. You did not have your dog under control and it approached the other dog (or Fog per the thread title).

You have zero claim against the other dog owner. The relative sizes of the dogs means absolutely nothing,

Keep your dog under control in future.

Your off leash dog charged at another dog, not a hope of being reimbursed.

Fault here is completely with you, you have failed your own pet too. You were in a housing estate so not like its unusual to encounter other dogs. And traffic for that matter. If the other dog was across the road have a think what would have happened.

Hope your dog is ok but do better protecting it in future.

Be thankful your dog didn't knock a child off a bike when running to the other dog. Be responsible and keep it on a leash in future in public areas.

No they are not. At least any I have had or known never were once you get to know them. They are the funnest, craziest, happiest little dogs when they get ho know you. Just a bundle of love and joy.

I've 2 dogs, labradors, great dogs but no way are they walking with me off leash in residential areas. Too many dangers, we have brought them into our world and we must protect them from it.

They get off leash time, I bring them to fields and rivers where I know nobody will be and let them swim, chase a ball, run around with each other. If I sense a danger from kids, other dogs etc, back on leash.
