That does not look good. But I'll go anyway.

Won't watch the trailer but I assume it's a Neve Campbell film and will ignore the survivors of the last one since none of them are coming back.

    Scream 7: So very tired

Courteney Cox is back as well, but apart from those two, it appears to be an all-new cast with Anna Camp, Joel McHale and McKenna Grace.

The last one was rubbish. I don't know how this series can ever be refreshed.

    Scream 7 – 4/10

We’ve all seen and heard of sequels like this being described as having ‘affection’ or ‘respect’ for the original. Well, this one takes it to a new level. It’s so deeply, madly and sycophantically in love with the original that the estate of Wes Craven could file for a restraining order.

The script is diabolical, to the point where it’s a miracle that the likes of Campbell and Cox manage to get their lines out without either stifling laughter or crying. Worst of all, it appears terrified to commit to its own premise out of fears of being labelled a farce. Well, I hate to break it to you…

Courtney's face was the scariest thing in it...ending was laugh out loud bad

The ending of Scream 6 was rubbish. Looks like this is taking it to an even lower level. I'll still watch it of course.

Absolute muck. 2/10. Should be the final nail in the coffin for the franchise but I imagine it'll make money, so we'll get more. The only way I will watch the next one is if it begins with Sydney and Gail's heads on spikes.

Scream 8 in the works with the same director set to return 🙄

Oh God! As long as they are profitable and relatively easy to make then they'll keep churning them out. Well I won't be watching anymore after that muck (although I think I also said this after Scream 5 and 6!)

Not defending the movie, but it was directed by Kevin Williamson who wrote the scripts for Scream 1 and 2 (and some parts of Scream 4), so the "Wes Craven's estate" dig is really not needed. Williamson's ideas are as import to the success of the franchise as Craven's directing.

Saw it during the week. It passed away 2 hours I suppose. It's grand, you'll watch it and then forget about it.

    It really was dire

Sydney needs to turn killer and she could start with Gail

That's a fair point but Williamson is not known as a director, he's primarily a writer. He may have written the scripts but Wes Craven's talent as a director brought it all to life, and made it so memorable. Plus Williamson is now a man in his 60s: he wrote the original Scream 30 years ago, when he was barely 30. He had his finger on the pulse of youth culture and it was a cool franchise that reinvented the horror genre. Now he's just too old and out of touch for it, and the writing and direction were sorely lacking in Scream 7.

More likely they'll focus on the daughter as a final girl now, which would suck because she's a bland Jennifer Lawrence lookalike.

The Killer reveal was probably the weakest of the series. Would still probably rate it above 6. Also the two twins are probably the most annoying characters in the series. Also I will inevitably make the trip to Scream 8 in the cinema when it arrives.

The only thing left for this franchise to do is do a Wes Craven's New Nightmare on it and then call it a day.

Scream IS a New Nightmare already. The first film is very much a spiritual successor to that as a self-referential take on the genre. While the subsequent films have been additional degrees of self-referential to wildly varying degrees of success / laziness (though always short of the original), what was once quite cheeky and original has inevitably become somewhat stale and limiting.

No, I mean a full on New Nightmare style movie where the Hollywood actors from the Scream movies are being picked off by Ghostface. It'd bring the whole thing full circle and be a nice tribute to Craven.

I don't think it would work because Freddy is a supernatural being, whereas ghostface is just a person in a costume. If a killer was running around after famous actors in a ghostface outfit, they'd probably be caught or shot dead straight away by security, police or the person themselves :)

What I'd like to see is a distasteful festival in Woodsboro celebrating the anniversary of the original killings, which brings ghouls/YouTubers and Instagrammers/cosplayers to the town, all wearing ghostface outfits. Sydney's kids are kidnapped, with the killer luring her back to Woodsboro. We'd have hundreds of ghostfaces running around, of which one or more of them is a real killer.

Well it's finally become the thing it was originally showing up. Kevin Williamson wrote all films in the franchise but this is his first in the directing chair. The film has broken all records for the series so he'll probably be back but it's definitely the worst of them. They're part of a genre of films where you shout "don't go in there" and "why would you do that?" but this takes that to a new mind numbingly dumb level. I hope Neve Campbell made bank after refusing to return in the last one. Campbell's daughter is awful in it. The murders seemed to really go over the top this time in a Final Destination way. I turned to my mate about 20 minutes in and told him the killer. Awful stuff.

    3/10

The killers keep getting worse and worse.

One of them is a guy who grunts at her at a coffee shop and says nothing else. I’m also certain this will be the AI feature they were talking about when it gets home release that will allow your own image to appear in the film. Modern cinema

Franchise has nowhere else to go or say. It’s dead Jim, dead Jim

I enjoyed the earlier entries and thought Scream 5 or whatever the soft reboot was labeled was ok. But this was just bad. A terrible movie, nothing new or worthwhile in it at all. Time to put the series to rest I think.
