Big weekend for Nolan. Final event on challenge tour. Needs a top finish to get a tour card. Every player playing can still get one so here’s hoping

The DP is a European Corn Ferry feeder tour to the PGA. Even with multiple in form wins and being player of the year it's ignored now for the Ryder Cup

Thought Conor Purcell was entered into stage two of Q school? Has he since gotten a bye to final stage as he ain't playing this week?

Lovely day at Yas Links. Always feels like a home course with Irish accents everywhere! Looking forward to tomorrow

I'm going to say the noise here on yas island isn't a whole lot better. The constant screaming from roller coaster at Ferrari world on one side and yesterday there was an alarm going for ages from either Warner brothers or the construction at ansam. Today the labourers are back to work and there's a lot of angle grinders and banging. There was even the noise from the band, or a band as there's a festival near by, before the golf was even over.

    Pitch and putt play off

Was there much of a crowd?

The gallery looked to be pretty sparse in the earlier rounds when I was able to follow some of the TV coverage.

Not as big as I expected to be honest and you're not the first person who watched on tv to ask me this today! Between the cost of living increasing and the crazy amount of events happening here in the next 6 weeks I think people are watching their Spending.

But I also couldn't upgrade my ticket to the bar on the 9th as it was "sold out"

Shane and Aberg should be off first on Thursday based on previous years. Nice 2 ball to get the tournament going

Mark Power was the only Irish player to make the cut at the Q School Final. He's currently 7 shots off qualifying in the early stages of his penultimate final round, so a massive mountain to climb. Hopefully he can improve and even improve his ranking status if not win a card.

(For any Chipping Forecast listeners, Eddie Pepperell is going well and in with a good chance of qualifying)

edit: thought is was round 5

Disappointing really that so few young Irish players seem to be making the breakthrough in last few seasons.

Very disappointing. Looks like post Shane & Rory, we're going to be without top class Irish players to support sadly.

Thanks for that. Can i ask where you get the live leaderboard?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 633 ✭✭✭GolfPar

Eddie had 2 early birdies today to sit just inside the Top 20. Bogeyed the 12th to fall a shot outside. He has just finished with 4 birdies to wrap up his card. Delighted for him.

On the DP world tour app. Just go into menu and you can select Q school final. Had a look on desktop and it does seem to be well hidden. But if you go into the main Leaderboard tab you’ll see a banner for the Q school scoring.

Power hasn’t done much today. Currently 8 shots off qualifying with 2 holes to play.

@golfpar yeah storming finish by EP. Currently 9th overall and card guaranteed.

Pepperell gets his card back. 4 birds to finish. Levy needs help by someone.

Yannick Paul only 2 years ago was talked about maybe getting a wc picked to losing his card. Lucas bjerregaard completely lost his game when he went to pga tour. Gonzalo and wood still grinding away

    Professional pathways are failing.

All the top amateurs are struggling since turning professional bar maybe Liam Nolan and possibly Max Kennedy.

To have no young pros with status on DP World is very very poor. Nearly every serious golfing European country would have some there.

It's very hard to make it at the top. You do need a bit of luck and the game is bigger than ever. Much like in football, it's really a global sport now. Lots of countries have caught up or even passed us.

The primary pathway seems to be through college golf programs in the USA. If you start at that level it should be a strong indicator of potential for a successful pro career. The top players tend to get pretty battle hardened from constant coaching, S&C and regular high level competition. Many are ready to hit the ground running when turning pro.

McKibbin is an exception in that he could have went through that system and likely excelled. However he decided to just hit the grind in pro ranks straight out of school.

If you don't go through the USA college system it's pretty much elite amateur golf at home and Irish team selection. Then choose at some point to hit q schools and mini tours. Some of the teams would have players who are in US colleges too.

I don't know how the local amateur scene or national teams program could measure up to the USA college programs. Those colleges are essentially professional. Huge investments in facilities with full time coaches and complete back room teams.

Ayora, leading by 1 playing the par 5 18th, finishes with a bogey, having taken a penalty off the tee, he was so lucky his 3rd shot didn't end up in the water. It hit the rocks and bounced forward, fortunately for him.

There's now an 8 way tie for the lead on -12. But Rory, in that group still has a couple of holes to get to the top. A lot of Ryder Cup players near the top of the leaderboard.

He just cant seal the deal can he. Must be terribly frustrating

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,224 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Not a good drive by Rory on 18. Well right, he won't be going for the green in 2 now.

Still makes birdie, tomorrow should be fascinating, superb leaderboard.

I mean he has on many occasions, some on the biggest stage.

But as an arm chair fan its frustrating watching when hes so often 10 feet or less and nothings dropping.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,224 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Rory finishes with a birdie and is joint leader, alongside Neergaard-Petersen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,224 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

How lucky was Shane? Smashed his 2nd on 18 off the rocks and it takes a huge bounce backwards onto the fairway.

Watching a recording of day 3 so jumped to the end of the thread.

The canopy on 1 is genius.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,224 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Things are going well for McIlroy so far. He's 2 clear as he steps onto the 9th tee. And Hatton and Penge, the only 2 who can challenge him for the Race to Dubai title are 5 and 8 shots behind respectively.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,224 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

The lead is down to 1 and he looked like he was behind a tree off the tee on 10. But it's not that bad. And his approach leaves him with a birdie putt of around 10 feet. Nice shot.

Rory leaves the birdie putt a couple of inches short, it was right on line. That's one he should have got.
